Knicks · Still unconfirmed, a longshot and all speculation, but... (J.J. Barea to Knicks) (page 1)

Knicksfan @ 12/11/2011 7:48 AM
Some people are saying around the social media that the Knicks signed J.J. Barea and will announce it today. They speculate that they will sign it for 2 years and 5 millions (the mini MLE of 2.5). To them, this also makes the T-Douglas for J-Crawford rumor more sense.

Sincerely, I don't believe it. Barea is looking to cash in now and he should have better and more lucrative offers out there. The deal is a year and a million more than the Dallas offer, but still far below his expected 3-4 year contract with more millions. Its true he has Zuleyka Rivera as wife, expecting a child, and many have speculated that a move to NY is important for her acting career. Its also true that with Carmelo, Amar'e and Chandler, the Knicks offer him a real shot at another championship. This last lines makes the rumor not so farfetched, but I still think its not true.

Just throwing it here in case it someway becomes a reality later on, in which care we would be extremely loaded.

2 years, $5 mil would be an outstanding deal for us.

I pray this is true because I just picked him up off the waiver wire in my fantasy league

Legit sources are starting to mention the Knicks offer:

Ok, now, for those who don't speak spanish, I'll help you out. First of all, the news is in the web site of Puerto Rico's most important and serious newspaper, "El Nuevo Dia".

Second and most important, it does confirm that the Knicks made the mentiones 5 million offer.

Stay tuned!

This would be awesome if this happened. And along with the possible offer for Jamal Crawford, we are positioning ourselves for a run at the championship by picking up proven players - getting an excellent supporting cast to go along with Amare and Melo.

Barea/Shumpert/bibby
Fields/crawford
Melo/jeffries
Amare/williams
Chandler/jordan

* if williams signs.

our lineup is super interchangable you can have Barea at the one, shumpert at the 2 fields at the 3 to back up melo

Just need to sign shawne williams and I think we our set.

Barea is perfect as a change of pace, energy guy off the bench, but the Douglas for Crawford swap isn't beneficial to us in the right ways. We already have primary alpha dog scorers in Melo and Amare. The supporting cast should ALL be able to play defense, first and foremost, with scoring ability being an afterthought. TD is ideal in that sense. Sometimes you have to be content with the current roster instead of making moves just to make moves. That's why this FO has been a disaster the last decade. Tyson over Paul was the right move. Now let's see how this season plays out.

Y'all thinking of Craw in one dimension of shoot first mentality. Im thinking his skill set has other possibilities.....

And he can lead a second unit too.

SSOL is about ball movement and the threat of being able to hit an open shot.

PIck and roll with Tyson gives Tyson a wealth of opportunities to pass to if weak side defender comes to help. Thinking easy baskets!

What Barrea or Crawford brings is scoring and allows us to generate points when we rest our starters, which can't be understated. If we don't get either of these guys, I think we struggle to score when Anthony or STAT is off the floor, as teams can double us. Not sold on Bibby as a consistent scorer.

TD was our third scoring option down the stretch last year, which can't happen on a championship team.

I know that Bibby, Jordan, the rooks etc. can't be signed yet because the Knicks are still manipulating the cap. Maybe that is the case with J.J.
JesseDark @ 12/11/2011 11:36 AM
I would love to see this. My concern would be our backcourt size. I would like to see someone who could at least stay up with Drose phyically. I know he can't be stopped, but would like someone with that type of size. Anyone out there fit the bill?

Hahn and Berman are reporting the Knicks signed the rooks, JJ and Bibby and they are practicing.

JJ meaning Jared Jeffries, not JJ Barea. Or Jerome Jordan.

Once again we're gonna have too many JJs on this team.
