Knicks · Active Roster to start the season (page 1)

MDA traditionally likes a short roster. Because of a ton of back to back games, assuming no more signings, the roster is likely to be longer. How many players deep do you think it will go and which players will fill the slots.

1)Amare
2)Melo
3)Tyson
4)Landry
5)Toney
6)Iman
7)Mike (Bibby)
8)JJ
9)Jorts
10)Renaldo (Balkman)
11)Billy (Walker)

What would you change?

i think they'll make at least one more signing. if not two.

Baron and maybe Posey. tho Posey might go back to Boston where he won a ring.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Baron Davis ends up on that list.

Balkman is not the 10th man based on 1 game. Please.

Actually that is one of the questions that motivated to start this thread. I thought that Balkman has taken huge strides to improve the offensive side of his game. He shots infinitely better than he did when the Knicks traded him away, and he moves well on the offensive side of the court as well.

I wonder how many people actually think he gets a chance to play for the Knicks this year. I think he is ahead of Billy Walker for instance because of his superior defense and rebounding. What other people think?

Balk can be a major contributor off the bench, if he keeps it up. As for the lineup, I see our starting fide as:

Bibby
Iman
Melo
Stat
Chandler

Agreed. He played above his head but usually, the quality in his game isn't usually nearly that high.

The question is did Balkman just have a great day, or is he perhaps a different player that when Knick fans last saw him? (David Lee is proof that players are capable of getting significantly better over time.) Balkman demonstrates different skill sets both in shooting accuracy and in moving around to get free on the offensive side of the court. I don't think it is a fluke. MDA is likely to find future opportunities for his defensive guarding and rebounding talents fortified by the new offensive skills he has developed. (I doubt MDA would have left him in the game that long, unless he was thinking of playing him during the season.)

Balkman has had authority problems both with his college coach, and with MDA. D'Antoni shipped him for next to nothing out because he appeared unwilling to learn how to play the way MDA wanted his players to play. Perhaps before it was too late, Balkman has decided he needed to change change things up, or his NBA career was coming to an end. Perhaps making final decisions about Balkman based on what he did a few years ago isn't ideal. I thought he had no chance to make the team until I saw how much more confident he was on the offensive side of the court.
