Knicks · Itme to discuss expectations and predictions. (page 2)

38-28 is realistic, but it would be a nice thing to break 40 wins. We are going to have some down time with our starters playing so many back-2-backs.

39-27... We seem to have a tough schedule at the beginning. Should be a great opening test.

This is how I see this team. The biggest thing I see is that we have a roster full of ASSASSINS! Think about it. Amar'e led the league in 4th qtr scoring. Melo is the top game winning shot maker. Tyson just won a title and is a BEAST. B Diddy is another cold blooded killer. Heck even Shumpert has the signs of a killer. I just think a team with that kind of DNA in it's best players is gonna do damage. The more talent we add to the team the more ready it is for a tough schedule. Many teams won't be deep enough to deal with that. There are no holes in this roster.

46-20 ECF's (did you expect anything less from a Nixluva prediction?)

Erniecat @ 12/20/2011 3:13 AM
I think in a full season, we would be a 54-win team. So that's 66 percent. Translate that to a 66-game season, and I come up with ...

43-23

even by your standards this is insane

Personally, I hope the team focuses on making the playoffs and then pushing the pedal to the metal. Riding the stars every night when there are back-to-back-to-backs or four-games-in-five-nights guarantees a let down in the playoffs.

Under normal circumstances I believe you never let up. But this isn't normal. I hope Pringles leaves his stars in New York to rest on short road trips. I'm happy with 36 wins and a relatively rested team. Pursuing/expecting anything over and above that is reckless and counterproductive to the ultimate goal

Silverfuel @ 12/20/2011 5:48 AM
36 to 38 wins
fishmike @ 12/20/2011 7:38 AM
36-30? Really?

Where are all these losses coming from? I guess until our chemistry kicks in those teams like Phili, NJ, the Bucks, the Pacers, Toronto, Cle, Detroit, Pacers, Bobcats, Wizards, Rockets, Hornets, Wolves, Jazz, Golden State, suns, Kings... we will be lucky to win those HOME games right? As for last year's playoff teams? Man... hopefully we play .400 right?

Has anyone actually looked at the Knicks roster? It actually pretty good

BECAUSE of Chemistry we go 42-20

As far as playoffs, lets see who's healthy. Knicks have the talent to beat anyone and the matchups. Lets see who is healthy and playing well come spring. We have the pieces we need. Depth, size, defense, scoring, coaching... its all there. Just need time to let it gel

look at the schedule... to play all the starters every night at their normal minutes would put the team at risk of flaming out like they did last season. Melo, Amar'e, and Chandler all need to be healthy for the post season

and we are the only team that has to deal with this? Phili had a nice ressurgance. Will they be playing Brand 40 minutes a night? EVERY team has these issues, except when Amare only plays 20 minutes we still have Chandler, Melo, later Baron...

The things people are saying will hurt the Knicks in the regular season, chemistry, resting guys... EVERY team has these problems. The difference is the Knicks have more talent and depth. A lot more

Not the only team that has to deal with it, but I would hope that the team plays its B-side exclusively at times. I think the teams that navigate the schedule best will be the ones that make it to the conference finals and beyond. As was proven in 99, the regular season results were less meaningful than staying healthy

Please note I'm not discounting the Knicks starting lineup. I think its great. I just think it is absolutely insane to play the starters the amount of minutes that would be necessary to win 65 or 70 percent of the regular season games

and I dont think we have to... I guess thats my point. Especially when Baron gets healthy later in the year things will get even easier. Is Mia going to run its big 3 out 40 minutes a night? Will Boston? Every team will have to rely on depth. The Knicks advantage with Davis, Chandler, Melo and Amare is we can always have two impact players on the floor while resting big guns.

IM factoring in injuries. We are not a deep team in my opinion.

Chemistry is a question I can't see right out of the gate. Only Two preseason games against a Net team that is up in the air is not a good test. The Second unit is a huge bench factor and a very important hole to fill at the 4 spot. This is where you like to have a Channing Frye, or near starting quality player come off the bench when Amare is nicked up or in foul trouble. A big that can play the 4-5 with offensive ability is what we need. Tyson-Jorts-JJ3 won't give us much FG production. Tyson gets in foul trouble early we gotta go small. I don't know how that works either with out line up.

The jury is not in on Fields and where to place him. The game the other nite I hope is no indication. He looked to be pressing his shot instead of getting the ball in the flow.

Is Shump going to start mid season? Or is he the spark plug off the bench?

A lot of chemistry questions sill need worked out. Not that its a problem, just unresolved at this moment of Itme.

There are other teams with lessor talent that either have an established core or other teams that COULD get it together sooner than ours. No doubt we have the talent. Im thinking SSOL takes Itme to become instinctive. When it does its great fun to watch! That is why I objected to the Melo trade. The chemistry was good. We moved on and time to create a new version with better talent.

Because of Chemistry I am 36-30. My hope is that it comes sooner than later and your call of 42 wins is accurate.

Fair enough... I suppose we're more or less on the same page about the talent. I suppose I think while our support cast compliments the big guns well, I don't think you would want to feature them regularly. But you would have to.

I also think that teams like Memphis and Indiana will benefit significantly more than they would under normal circumstances because of the amount of young, quality depth they have available

Also, I would have two of the four watch the game in a suit occassionally. So I think a winning percentage of 55 to 60, or 36 to 40 wins, is what it would average out.

In a normal season I think 65 percent winning percentage is reasonable, it's just that I hope everyone goes on a strict "pitch count" regardless of winning a close game in February

If I were a Miami fan, I'd want to see Shane Battier give LBJ a night off from time to time too

sure.. but our small ball team will be Douglas/Shumpert/Fields/Melo/JJ which can run you up and down the court ragged. Then we can rest Melo and go big with Amare/Chandler

This will be for MDA to fix, but we no longer have one big gun we have to lean on with Amare. We have 3, and if you remember Baron torching us last year you can make it 4 with Davis.

hey.. time will tell. I just look at the overall makup of the Knicks roster vs. the rest of the league and we are in a good spot. We have a lot of size and interchangable parts.
