The good:
-Same strengths as usual (rebounding, hitting open shots, driving, etc.)
-He appeared to be trying hard to set teammates up and made some excellent passes
-His intensity on defense generally looked good
The bad:
-I don't see any evidence that he wants to be more than a 45% shooter. He's still putting up highly contested jumpshots with a lot of time on the clock when he should be trying to create higher percentage shots (for himself or his teammates). He could easily be a 49% shooter with 4.5 or 5 assists a game if he instead tried to setup teammates every time he took contested jumpshots.
-He made some really bad passing decisions. He doesn't have the decision-making to be a point forward.
His passing will open up better scoring opportunities. Look for his fg% to go up considerably as he learns the pointforward role.

The biggest issue with his FG% is not learning the point forward position IMO. It's just to stop forcing up bad jumpshots. I know he hits some of them and it's fine to take them when the shot-clock is winding down but otherwise they are bad, low percentage shots.

I think when Davis comes in that it will help to get Melo more easy baskets. Right now also things are still new and the touch on shots and chemistry with each other isn't all there yet. It's something to keep an eye on but I wouldn't put too much weight on how things look at this point. This would still be just the beginning of a normal Preseason schedule.
I'm sure he really didn't want to shoot over 45 percent for the preseason. It probably just happened by mistake. But he just really, really did not want to do it

No...Melo is the number one option scoring...When you are the first option, you shoot when open...One thing you have seen is that he is the best Knick player out there...I though Amare was on par with him...Amare isn't...It's also the preseason...Just way too early to judge anyone on their game at this point...

I never said don't shoot when open. I said don't chuck when contested.
Come on Bonn..Your nit picking...He should have about 7-8 assist if guys converted their baskets...8 boards, game 2 of preseason after two weeks of training camp...Give it a few weeks, I'm sure you will see better play from everyone...

Everyone makes good passes that lead to missed baskets. No need to make that excuse. If the bad shots and passes were new, I wouldn't have mentioned them but they're a continuation of the biggest weaknesses of his game for his whole career. It looks like he doesn't realize those contested jumpshots are bad shots and is happy to take them.
That said, I did mention many positives too. I had a feeling people would ignore the positives I discussed and just say that my criticisms were wrong though.
he looks like he is taking his leadership to another level and accepting the challenge.
However, Dantoni hasn't really found a way to bring Melo and Amare together for a double threat.
After asserting that double threat, they have to make it a team effort and system.
I like how Balkman, Jorts, Iman, and to a less extent Green seems to be part of the 2nd unit....
Melo had a great preseason actually..don't know what the issue is. The stars of every team take questionable shots throughout the game. It's not like he didn't balance out some of those questionable shots with good passes. The 3rd leading scorer of the league deserves a couple of contest shots a game.

i wasn't a big fan the Melo trade, but since he got here, he has been changing little by little, and he looks serious to me about taking us to the promise land.
whatever, i have to let it go, in the end it netted us Chandler, Iman, and Baron Davis...
I seriously believe Melo had to shoot less than 46.547209% in the preseason or the Euro economy would continue to implode, Chinese human rights atrocities would continue unabated thereby clearing the way for Marbles to become generallisimo of Turkey.
Sooner rather than later, it's all about money in this league.

I'll ask martin to get that crack intern working on that.
I think this thread needs to be deleted. If Melo sees what Bonn thinks, hes obviously going to take it badly. Its going to get into his head and crush him. I can see him turning into Brian Scalabrine overnight because Bonn thinks hes a scrub. If Melo finally sees - what until now only Bonn has known - that hes an offensive scrub, itll be the worst hing to happen to him. It will crumble him, turn him into a shell of a man. We must protect him from this.
Not to mention the whole 'man bresses' thread.
Oooops...

You obviously do not closely read what I write or have more general reading difficulties
