Knicks · Dalembert signs with HOU for 2 years 13.7 Million (cheap) and it begs the question.... (page 1)

Killa4luv @ 12/22/2011 10:10 AM
If you knew he could be had this cheap, would you have opted for him and a PG like Felton instead of Chandler alone?

Just curious.

BTW, very happy he didn't go to the HEAT!!! They still have fat Curry.

Panos @ 12/22/2011 10:14 AM
Tough call.
Chandler is a leader. Sammy is a bit of a schmo. Hasn't had a real impact on any of the teams he's played on. Between the two of them, the choice is clear. But if you throw Felton (who was not a realistic option) into the mix, the choice gets tougher.

I will say, I'm happy we finally have a REAL center on this team. He may not be Hakeem, but he's very solid. Can't say that for Sammy.

OasisBU @ 12/22/2011 10:14 AM
I don't think so - from what I have read on this board Dalembert has some issues and is a one dimensional player. I think Chandler is a much harder worker, can give you some offense and brings a lot to the D as well as being a good locker room presence.

I think there is a huge difference in quality between the two. Also, Chandler + BDiddy > Dalembert + Felton imho.

martin @ 12/22/2011 10:15 AM
No. Huge difference between the 2 guys. One a winner, the other a whiner.
EnySpree @ 12/22/2011 10:16 AM
I was wondering what the deal was with this guy....its a good question. Dalembert has a little offensive game. They say chandler is the better team player. But dalembert is proven to put up similar or better numbers than chandler.
holfresh @ 12/22/2011 10:17 AM
I could see how its tempting to think that way..but it seems like Chandler is bringing more to the table..just seeing how hard the second unit is playing on defense is telling..hearing how the team is acting as one unit is also a good thing to hear...We need a PG badly...Maybe we can engineer a sign and trade for Felton next year but I like what we have for now...Stay tuned...

Besides I think Dalembert is just looking for a paycheck...
Moonangie @ 12/22/2011 10:24 AM
You neglected to mention BDiddy. Chandler + Davis is a solid pickup for this team, way better than Sammy + Ray Ray.

If Davis comes back effective

this... Dalembert is a quality center. Chandler is a leader and champion. Less than 2 weeks into his Knick career all the coaches and players are saying the same things.. he's a leader, he comes as advertised.

Just watch him. He takes every made shot in the paint as personal insult. He's always positive. He's the first off the bench to greet the 2nd unit. All you read is what a quality human the guy is and how his positivity rubs off on everyone else. Why do you think Dirk and Terry were pining for him to come back? Dude was the piece that took Dallas from damn good to the best in the NBA.

Nobody is coming to the Knicks to play with Dalembert, but Tyson Chandler is a draw.

loweyecue @ 12/22/2011 10:45 AM
Centers are a rare breed. If you get one that's a proven winner with good attitude and willingness to work hard on defense you need to lock him up. Even Eddy Curry gets to start for title contender! What else do you need to know? PGs are much easier to find. Beside Chicken Wings >>>>>>>>> Delambert.
AnubisADL @ 12/22/2011 10:45 AM
Dalembert is GARBAGE.

I rather pay Chandler 15 million per than pay Dalembert 5 million per and have Felton.

Now if we were talking Deron Williams or Chris Paul at PG I'd feel different.

Nalod @ 12/22/2011 11:13 AM

Price is only an issue in the absence of quality.

While felton would be a great PG on the team, I don't see winning deep in the playoffs with Dalembert.

crzymdups @ 12/22/2011 11:35 AM
No way to Dalembert. He loafs through games and is not a leader at all.

There's a reason Tyson Chandler commands double the money that Dalembert does - he has at least twice the impact on the game. Tyson will be worth every penny. He's like a defensive coach out there.

That's dalemberts game log from last year...

This is chandlers....

Just fun to compare....I just saw chandler and stoudamire communicating about the what to do in a defensive situation while mic'ed up in practic...I'm glad we have chandler regardless if dalembert is better statistically

gunsnewing @ 12/22/2011 11:53 AM
Give me Chandler & Boom Dizzle

yeah, exactly. there weren't any point guards on the market this free agency period anyway.

Chandler and Baron is a dream come true, basically.

Bonn1997 @ 12/22/2011 2:07 PM
Tough call. I like Chandler but our backcourt looks like really bad right now. I'm not sure we have anyone who can consistently get more than 3 assists in a game.

Baron is going to be great for this team. I'm calling it now.

Stats are very misleading, if you look by the numbers, it would look as if production vs the money between Chandler/Dalembert is a huge favor to Dalembert.
Dalembert is a combination of length, athletic ability, and 6'11.
He isn't a defensive leader, hard worker, defensive specialist, and communicator that Chandler is.
Once his athleticism, age, and injuries add up, no one has an idea where Dalembert will be in the league.
His game is all made up of his physical skills and he has limited moves, BB IQ, and questionable work ethic.

Players like Keon Clark and Stromile Swift are 2 players that Dalembert could follow that undesirable foot steps of.
This 1 to 2 year team option is very smart, it ensures Houston, that if Dalembert falls of his game with his athleticism or stops working, they could cut him next year with a
little over 1m buyout. It reminds players and Dalembert, that contracts aren't given out and must be earned. It's a message that is clear, that the NBA has had problems
with cutting bad contracts, while hindering their ability to improve with the cap situation. Unlike the NFL, players are harder to cut and have guaranteed money that some
players take advantage for.

Chandler, although cost a lot more, he has the will, work ethic, and desire to play defense and win another championship.
In my opinion, there is simply no comparison between the 2. He came to New York because he knew they have been a poor defensive team.
He wants to prove to the league and himself, the importance of his defensive abilities, being our Bill Russel in New York.
With all the TV attention, media, analyst, and fans that questions NY's defense.
We lack a center that brings defense, rebounding, shot blocking, and toughness for a decade.

Sean Williams is a player that is similar and younger, to Dalembert, if you want to talk about cost efficiency.
The league is preventing the Jerome James/Eddy Curry like players, looking to seek a good contract and stop working for it.
Knowing their contracts will be payed, as long as they sit on their bench, and attend practice/games.
NBA isn't a charity or high school, no one is baby sitting a pro.
The way the league is offering many 1year/2year deals to Kris Humphries. Dalembert, West, Brown is a sign that the owners/Gm's got together, uniting to stop a problem that certain players took advantage off. The message is clear, EARN AND HONOR YOUR CONTRACTS, a vow by GM's that payed in advance for the potential, in which was taken advantage for.

I agree, if a Center like Dalembert is signed for us, we need to find a way to get Cp3 or Deron, to make up for it.
There is no comparison between Dalembert and Chandler, or CP3/Deron vs Baron Davis and any PGs that are attainable.
I prefer Cp3, even though there is a history of injuries, the way he uses his combination of speed, quickness, BB IQ, passing, screens, and his TO/Assist ratio is very unique.
For the amount of time he has the ball in his hands, he controls the temmpo, without many turnovers.
It's quite amazing what he does, unfortunately, there wasn't a realistic way in which we can add him to the Knick's and add a legit center/supporting cast.
Deandre Jordan is a great athletic center in which will excel with Cp3. The only realistic way we could have attained Cp3 is if we never pulled the Melo trade.
We can't look in the past, we have a solid team, and wait till we see how Baron Davis fits when he is back.
This team needs time for our players, to gel, build chemistry, and work as a team.
Our 2nd and 3rd units/lineups, needs the players to find their confidence and roles.
Leave the rest to our coaches to get the most of their players and Grunweld to finish the rest.

I thought Douglas and Melo especially threw some good passes. The assist numbers were low because of poor shooting.

Nalod @ 12/23/2011 1:09 PM
Dalembart only has one year guarantee, he can be bought out for 2mil. He basically has a one year deal for 9 mil.

NOt bad work if you can get it.
