Knicks · Tale of the tape (page 1)

I wanted to fire D'Antoni during the summer and get Adelman. The fact that Adelman is no longer available and we'd likely have to endure a full season of Woodson as interim coach (he wasn't that impressive in Atlanta) doesn't change my opinion though.

I'd keep him the rest of the season. MDA obviously knows his basketball, but if the team seems unprepared the entire season, and if our play continues to look unorganized, then I would say fire him and bring back Jeff Van Gundy or Phil Jackson.

When does Monty Williams get out of his contract

Jeff Van Gundy isn't losing much sleep working as a broadcaster. I think his coaching days are done, of course $ could be a big motivation.

This isnt D'Antoni's fault. This team was constructed with a heavy dependence on health. Because there is very little youth on this team what else can we expect? The best thing the knicks can do right now is get a third scoring option. That is what is missing.
Nalod @ 12/30/2011 6:25 PM
Lets bring in every coach until one finally gets it done!

JVG can stagnate the offense.

Im not gonna argue Phil Jax as I think he is the greatest coach ever. Im just not sure Melo is tough enough to handle the mental ambush the Zen Master will do to him. He forged the will of Jordan and Kobe.

Childs2Dudley @ 12/30/2011 6:31 PM
Woodson is a worse coach than D'Antoni.
KNICKSBIGCATS @ 12/30/2011 7:03 PM
Stay the course and hopefully get healthy soon.
We miss Shump and need BDiddy healthy ASAP.
Don't expect more than .500 for first 12-15 games.
It's going to take time and growing pains, but we'll get there.
Look for record to be better after Valentine's Day.
I still think 38 wins this year.
crzymdups @ 12/30/2011 7:18 PM
i say dont panic until baron comes back and doesn't work out. if baron, iman and jeffries come back and the results are the same... we're in trouble.
anrst @ 12/30/2011 8:18 PM
nothing bad can happen from firing d'antoni... so we should go ahead and try it soon if the losing continues

We made the playoffs last year, does that count?

He got swept. Dude was 61-103 his first two years, was called out for not using advanced scouts, didn't play his young players, struggled with communication and forced his gm to trade assets because they stressed him or he didn't use them. If that counts I give him credit for getting swept in the first round of the playoffs last year despite his going to Jeffries in the closing seconds on offense in a playoff game the Knicks should have won had they executed their final play on offense better. I am still waiting for his offensive 'genius' to show. Lots of guys coach the pick and roll on offense and spread the floor.

And who is the mystical person you so often speak of?

No assurance he would do better.

None. Easy to critique in hindsight.

He didnt forge anybodys will. Kobe and Jordan were psychopathic competitors before they ever heard of Phil Jax. He helped them win, he gave them a system, he helped guys who didn't like each other play together, but he didn't forge anybodys will.

I didn't speak of anyone. If you do a bad job you should be held accountable. Start a thread about who should be the next Knicks coach and I will gladly contribute. This was a poll about what Grunwald should do. For someone who is helping Mister Earl tell others how to write their posts my suggestion to you is to stay on topic with the thread.
nixluva @ 12/31/2011 3:14 AM
Oh Boy! It's happening faster and faster every year with Knick fans. So after 3 games it's already come to this. Grunwald isn't even the GM yet so why should anyone think it's gonna be his call? What do I think Dolan should do? He should let this team have time to come together. Only a FOOL thinks it's a good idea to change the coaching staff at this point in the development of a team they just put together. You fire a coach if he loses the team and that isn't even close to happening. None of the players are griping about anything and as well they shouldn't. They believe in what D'Antoni, Woodson and the staff have been trying to teach them. Only so far they haven't executed those plans very well yet.

This is just crazy how year after year the same knucklehead calls for a change of coach keep coming from the same people. There's really only one coach that I would consider a serious upgrade over MDA and that's Jax. The only fair thing to do is to let this season play out and then if MDA fails you give Jax a shot with a full training camp. You don't bring in a coach like him in the middle and you don't fire a coach as good as MDA only to replace him with a guy like Woodson, who isn't even as good as MDA. In any event people are nuts if they think this team isn't going to get it going at some point and play some good ball. Let's use some logic here.

there is youth i mean compared to most teams the knicks are young. the problem is depth which will always come down to the melo. trade. I mena i know melo fans might not like it but the dpeth was destroyed from that and we haven't been the same

We've been turning over coaches left and right of recent! Sure that's what's being done. WHo was the coach last year and the year before. It was someone different right? But now that we made the mistake of letting him start this season we might as well follow though and wait till' BD has had 5 games or so before we can MDA. But what you guys are advocating is basically indefinite free pass because you believe the coach is elite.

When he had time he didn't have players, when he has players he hasn't yet had enough time. Surely he deserves one season with the sanity of having the same core roster at the end of the season that he started the season with AND a roster where the best player is not name David Lee?

I don't think the media will let him last beyond this year anyway. If it was upto me I would give him two years with this roster, with only role players being substituted. He HAS shown he can build chemistry given time (See pre Melo trade team).

Watching this team now is unbelievably frustrating. I think we really have to wait and see. If the stars get frustrated then they will start blaming the coach, and the media will multiply everything exponentially. That's what I worry about with the current situation. It is easy to sit home and knit pick everything, but unless there is a better coach available now what is the point?
