lol so true
Here is what I notice. We switch too much when their is no reason to. We are slow on our rotations. Our team defense concept is horrible. The only positive was Amare's offense(horrible on D) and Iman looked great on both sides of the floor. He is the real deal.
^this team misses jeffries so much right now, it's not even funny. he is the BEST player on the team at guarding the screen and roll. you put jeffries on diaw tonight, he would've been shut down.
crzymdups wrote:nyk4ever wrote:so all the sudden these guys can just start playing with defensive intensity?
refs are mainly letting the knicks get away with some cheap fouls at the end. but i agree, i don't know why that intensity can't be there BEFORE they're down ten with 2 minutes to go.
i think it's because they THINK they can just show up, get their numbers and win.
because, hey, if nothing else, stat and melo got their numbers tonight.
I think because Knicks finally made an adjustment and went to zone but too little too late. Better work on defense the entire duration of practice tomorrow

It is all on the coach to have these guys prepared to know what to do on switches. To know how to defend the pick and roll better. We get exposed on the pick and roll. They are doing a shitty job of showing and rotating.
Ya D'antoni deserves blame but look at miami. their coach is not great but those three stars they have despite being jerks have great skills on both sides of the court
They play great defense. If you watch them play defense, carefully, you can tell they have detailed practices or film sessions that emphasize thier roles. Watch how they play pick and roll and get out in the passing lanes. Watch how they halp and recover. Also, Coach Spo learned under Riles so I imagine he has been taught very well.
I hope you are kidding lol. I think you are kidding around but i'm not sure. Thet dont play good defense. just because they switch that doesn't mean they are playin good d. They switch and have a center guarding a PG which leaves a wide open man in the paint we have seen taht a shitload of times in the first 6 games.

Definitely could see MDA spending the majority of hit press conference talking about how the offensive chemsitry and/or lack there of was the blame for tonites loss

It's ugly right now. Guys are just not locked in defensively. STAT is playing matador. TD is not staying in front of his man. Fields gets blown past too often and overall the team is just not playing defense as a unit. That said it's going to get better!
We've seen the team defend better than this and we know that eventually they'll start to click on offense. I'm not gonna panic and get all crazy cuz the team is shaky early in the season. It's just silly to overreact to the 1st 6 games!

U can scream all u want but where is the scouting or adjustments?
Exactly, I don't see any plays being called. Zone, for a flash, but that's it.
Diaw going off..Chandler plays him towards the end of game and suddenly his shots stop falling.
Dantoni never makes any adjustments in game. When u get lead down to 4..why not call a play so u make sure u get the right guy shooting it instead of just "going with the flow" and allowing your scrub starting pg to shoot terrible 3s without your stars touching the rock.
I know for sure this is Dantoni last year. More and more it's clear..steve Nash was the offense and this guy was just reaping the benefits.

oops. sorry i have heard a lot of people defending the players so i got confused lol. I still think Amare and melo could play good d but they dont show the desire ever
Ugh...

I just hope that sometime soon, I can look back at this horrendous game and say "Whew! I sure am glad that the Knicks got it together.".
This is a work in progress, OK, but that "new focus on defense" was nowhere to be seen tonight. WTF is Woodson doing? This team should be PROgressing, not REgressing on D. Dude needs to earn his paycheck.
We lost to the frikkin' BOBCATS, man. At home. The sooner we can move on and forget this game, the better.

Agree 100% and that is on the coaching. Looks like their is no coaching. They are playing street ball defensively and offensively. They are on their own. Can't count the number of times I saw them switch and Tyson switching to guard the PG 30ft away giving up offensive rebounds/putbacks

also, tyson looked like CRAP tonight. CRAP CRAP CRAP. did not play with any effort, despite the team going to him early for three lobs. hope he wasn't just trying hard in his contract year, because he's been pretty mercurial so far this year, in terms of defensive effort.

You don't know what you're talking about!!! POINT BLANK!!! You wanna make final judgments after 6 games? This team has a lot of issues they're trying to work out, but they will get it straightened out. D'Antoni and Woodson have a lot more work to do with this team, but they'll get it done.

Yeah he met Miami and I also agree. When you watch Miami and the bulls they KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THEIR ROLES ON D. Attention to detail. Both of their coaches are great defensive teachers. They prepare their players. Their is not reason why this team with a good defensive coach cannot close on the ball better and cut those easy baskets that drive us nuts in half. Watch the bulls play. Watch the bulls and heat watch how they move on Defense as a team. It's a thing of beauty but as a knicks fan it makes me sick but it exposes on how badly coached our players are on D. They are always late and that's why other teams get EASY and WIDE OPEN baskets and get into the lane because Our recovery is slow. Not that we don't have enough speed on our team but our recognize is bad. And when MDA team in all of his years of coaching can you saw he put out a good D ? At some point you MDA fan boys have to admitted that he is a bad coach. It's okay. It's not like this is his first bad defensive team. Or the first team in his career that gives up easy baskets and doesn't close out on shooters well. It won't be his last.
I can't wait til td and fields are playing 10 to 15 minutes per game.
