I am a huge Chandler fan and I still love that we got him. However, when I heard about Billups' amnesty the first thing I thought was that STAT who has had chronic injury issues and has an uninsured contract might have been the one who we should have kept it for as a "just in case".
Now here is what I am not sure about so clarification is welcome:
If we kept Billups this year and did not make the Chandler move, could we have waited to seasons end, let Billups walk, signed CP3/DWil and if STAT had issues, amnesty him and sign Howard. Woulda costed Dolan an extra 40-60 million (who cares - he probably would not even blink) but then we could have had:
Melo
Howard
CP3/DWil
Shumpert
Fields/Whoever
Was this not a possible scenario? If not, why?
Hey bro you just hurt my feelings...
That scenario would have been plausible.
I think the Amnesty would have been available to use for 2 years.
Sounds great, but omits the part about what happens in that plan if DH doesn't sign with us. A bird in the hand...

Well first, I believe that if it could be the big three of CP3, Melo and him, he would def wanna come here. If not, we could either keep him (if hes holding up), or still amnesty him and sign a few mid range FA's and have strong depth.
This move sort of put us in shackles for many years - reminds me a bit of Glenn Rice. Hope it works out.
Im not too concerned about the Chandler signing. We needed a center so the Knicks went out and got that piece instead of maybe getting a PG.
Amare, Melo, and Chandler are PROVEN. They just need to get in sync. Im only concerned about our terrible backcourt.
We needed a center
That is debatable. Teams do fine now without traditional centers.

We needed a center, a PG, and a SG. Thing is only Center worth a dam were available.

I agree with you on this first one. Im not concerned about the chandler signing either. It is obvious that he can be a coordinator on the defensive end. I was hoping for him to get into all of our players, if they screw up on an defensive play, regardless of their status and/or salary. Its not happened as much as I had hoped for (last night there were plenty opportunity for him to bark at STAT! Has not happened though...)
The backcourt is a mayor problem at the moment, but I strongly believe that Shumpert will end up as a real steal for us. This kid really can play! He will start sooner than later. And until Baron comes in, he, not Toney, will be the main playmaker. A backcourt of Baron and Iman, both playing 30+ minutes, can be great for this team!

Baron is great stop gate but this guy is injury prone especially with that bad back.

BD is wonderful but far from a PG savior. Chronic injuries, questionable shot selection ...
It seems like we are not handcuffed and throwing darts for for good PG play.
Chandler is a great signing but with the options that we might have had if we were a bit patient I hope it does not come back to bite us in the ass.

True. So what to do? In regards of real playmakers for this season, you have to hope for a healthy back and high motivation from Baron.
Either this, or you do a trade for, lets say, Ridnour. That would certainly include Toney and/or Fields. Both potentially usefull players, just not for their current position.
In regards to next season, I would be really happy with the return of Raymond, though I doubt that.
And btw: Its always next season...

We needed a PG?
What? We have JLin
Damn, how I miss Rautins
Not having billups to teach Iman and Douglas is the worst part of his amnesty in my POV
don't understand why they even signed billups - trade bait? That turned out to be reaaly dumb - then again, I guess they could not forcast this amnesty gift
We didn't have the pieces to trade for Paul, even if we kept Gallo (Gordon, Iminu and Kaman is a better package IMO). So if Paul was traded to the Clips, what makes everyone think he was not going to re-up to play with Blake in the city of Angels ?

And Dwil? The Nets? Really?
Either way, they just gave away their options.
You can only spend so long waiting for "next year", especially when you have STAT and Melo on your roster in their primes.
January's going to be a long month. We need Baron more than we ever knew.
