Knixkik wrote:Saying we traded away our "future" is not accurate at all. Has Gallo taken any steps to becoming a star? Is anyone that we traded every going to be close to the caliber of Melo? Answer to both is no. You get stars then you build around them. You don't build starting with good role players. We have the stars, we just need to continue building around them. Chandler and Shumpert is a start at least.
It'S not about Gallo, (which was btw Gallo, chandler, Felton, Mozgov, a couple draft picks), it was about financial responsability and be able to have a long term plan.
We don't have a plan right now. We have no cap flexibility, holes everywhere, players that don't want to defend and proved that their whole career.
Can we take the heat in a 7 games series? The Bulls? Do you expect this to change in the near future?
I don't. This is Mc Dyess 2.0. We were nearly out of the hole we dug ourselves in, then traded all our chips for a shor term pleasure instead of showing a little more patience.
And the stars we have are not the kind of stars a championship team is built on.
We have all stars, scorers, and those players usually have great stats but win no ring.

They traded away their entire forsseable future for Deron who will not be coming back. If the Knicks did a move like that you'd be having a field day with it.
And I'm not a Dolan apologist either. But that's a silly statement to make.
They traded away their future for Deron; we did for Carmelo. This may come down simply to a debate about which owner was dumber.Sometimes I wonder if you didn't like the Melo trade.
So maybe you can answer this question for me: what wouldn't have been too high a price to pay for Carmelo and Billups?
From what I saw of Melo in Denver, I simply did not want him on the team. They would have to have paid us to take him. (And many Denver fans are thought getting rid of him was addition by subtraction.)That said, I do generally like what I've seen of him in his 33 games as a Knick. His shooting and decision-making have been much better. I'm still skeptical that his style of play on offense is what you want on a championship contender.
I like Billups very much but he's too old to have much use for a team that isn't contending.
Denver is 5-2, while playing the last 2 games without Nene and with no starter playing more than 25 minutes.
They really don't seem to miss melo, whose name they used to write MElo btw.
They're playing good, fun and entertaining team ball. We gave that to them on a silver platter.

We could have stayed flexible forever, but at what point do we go all in? Holding onto flexibility makes you forever hopeful, but never in position to win. The team that we had prior to the Melo trade offered no real plan or hope to get beyond the first or second round of the playoffs in Stat's prime. The knicks have a plan right now and are committed. Saying is it McDyess pt 2 is saying committing to any stars period is McDyess pt 2. You can keep all your role players and hold out hope because of "flexiblity" but i'm in win-now mode. We have the core, we are role player away from contending. It is much easier to get these players than players of Melo's caliber.

Keep it up Bonn. You'll see. And when the Knicks are playing like most expect you'll find a reason to pine for Mardy Collins or Mozgov.

You have no basis for predicting how I would respond if the Knicks played well, as they have not played well in my seven years posting here.

I do have that basis. Because you continue to find things wrong with Melo who is the hardest working guy on the court and trying to get everyone going. Shots+Turnovers?! Give me a break.
Go analyze your boy Durants "shots+turnovers" and criticize him for it.
