I'm confused how Shumpert has proven anything we didn't know before the draft.
Still takes suspect shots Still misses suspect shots More SG than PG
Lets not be shortsighted here. I'd STILL take Jeremy Tyler just like I wanted Deandre Jordan 2 years ago.
I was wrong about Harellson though. Guy is a solid 2-way big off the bench.

You'd still take Jeremy Tyler knowing what you know now? Have you not watched the last few games?

Dude is 6' 11" 260 and moves like that.
Oh and he is ONLY 20 yrs old.

So by that reasoning and highlight mix, we should've drafted Josh Selby (Age 20) also
A mixtape and potential doesn't mean we should draft someone. Dude couldn't even dominate in Israel and Japan. Next thing you're going to want to sign Taurian Fontenette because he can do a 720 dunk.

Who cares? AnubisADL, labels are for food products and packages of dynamite. Not basketball players. The fact remains that Iman Shumpert on the floor changes the Knicks dramatically. Not matter how much people may want to nitpick him. Shumpert is a rookie who is a work in progress. He has shown the courage to play when not at 100 per cent and that is toughness that I thought New Yorkers appreciated. He has an opportunity to refine his game as the season progresses.
To prejudge him with a bitter aftertaste is more like lime flavored haterade.

It's not about highlights. The quality of NBA centers is TRASH. This is why guys like Kwame "No Hands" Brown get 7 million for a year.
Same reason why 10 and 10 Chandler got 15 million per from us.
I heard the same stuff about Deandre 2 years ago. Now he has a 4 year 40 million dollar deal.
Jeremy Tyler has the tools to be a very solid NBA big.

No one is hating.
I have seen this episode before. Guys will hype him to no end then when he doesn't make a quantum leap in play next season people will throw him under the bus. Happens with everyone we draft.

The guy is a heavier Anthony Randolph or Jordan Hill. I'm not saying Tyler will be a complete bust because he did get picked 39th in the 2nd round, but let's not confuse him with Deandre Jordan. Jordan was known as a shot blocker from the get go(averaged 8.1 blocks his senior year in high school) and even played a year of college ball. Tyler decided to forego his senior year of high school(dumb move), retract his scholarship to Louisville(dumb move), and play 2 mediocre years in Israel and Japan(Huh?). We have our Jeremy Tyler already and he's bigger and might be better...Jerome Jordan.

Same thing with Deandre Jordan. Teams are looking for immediate help. Plus they hadn't seen him play much.
Childs2Dudley wrote:So much intensity for a pick which is getting us nobody better than a role player. I don't know what people really expected.
Let's wait and see how Shumpert plays out. I remember I came home last year and people were absolutely SH!TTING on the Landry Fields pick in the 2nd ROUND. Just be patient. It's going to be a long summer and long non-season. No need to get angry over players you don't know will be good or not.
Thanks for linking to the old threads instead of posting to them as others have done in the past; much better way of referencing.

Here is the thing about your comment I highlighted: you have done the exact same thing but in the opposite direction; you hyped that this kid was trash when he was drafted and you are still doing it in your comment about next season.
How about we watch how this plays out and enjoy the ride instead of acting like we can definitively predict the future each and every time.

so many times on this board, the evaluation of young players comes more from people defending their original position on whether or not it was a good draft pick instead of watching what the player is actually doing on the floor.
it'd be nice if we could just acknowledge the positive and negative things the player is doing in this case and people could stop campaigning for their original draft prediction being correct. iman is a knick. can't we just all root for him to succeed?
bottom line, tyler might have been nice. but on a team that has tyson chandler (and jerome jordan and jorts), shumpert fills a MUCH bigger need and he's been doing well so far.
RonRon@ 1/8/2012 1:24 PM
a lot of us would have loved to be able to Jeremy Tyler as talent and physical talents seem to be off the charts. He is the complete opposite of Jorts and but we have yet to see Tyler play in GS. He would fit the the PF/C we could use to play with Tyson Chandler and at Center at times. I love Jorts but he can only contribute when he match up allows us to play him at PF with his lack of speed. He is 260 but lost a ton of weight the past 2-3 years and has improved much since. I was very surprised the Bobcats traded him as they could use cheap talents with high ceiling like Tyler. How many of you guys would trade Jorts for Tyler right now? I wouldn't be against it but Jorts has the mind set and will work hard and play right. Tyler gave the label/impression of a troubled player, where talent vs his mentality made him drop to the 2nd round.
I love the way our bench is now, with no head cases. They all cheer for each other and support each other. The addition of Tyson Chandler and the mentality headcases that Isiah built around are gone. The Wizards are a great example of talent that need guidance/respect that veterans like Tyson Chandler can bring. On paper, they have talent, however, they are use to losing so much that they can't seem to get rid of that "negative" energy we once had. It would be great to have a player like Jeremy Tyler with Tyson Chandler demanding respect and is another coach on the floor. Thing I don't like about is the way 2nd round picks are structured. I am not sure if we can only keep a player that develops after their 2 year deals are up. I would be heart breaking if you at best, only able to use the MLE to resign him if he does develop. It would only work on teams that are under the cap that can resign these type of players. There should be a possible 3 year deal, in which early to mid 2nd rounders can be resigned to another 2 year extension after the 1st year as option. Therefore getting their bird rights and the team that drafted/developed these players can retain them.

I didn't say he was trash. I said his upside was limited.
The guy has tools but alot of guards have athleticism without a jumper. Ronnie Brewer comes to mind.

I still don't see how his upside is limited. His jumper looks really good, doesn't fall everytime, but he has great lift and mechanics on his jumpshot. Martin posted this in the Video Posts link, and he looks great shooting jumpers, same form he uses in-game:

The funny thing to me is that there's no credit given for the intangible impact a player has on a his team. He reminds me of Rondo a bit. You spend so much time ragging on Rondo's shaky jumper that you totally miss the impact he has on his team's ability to WIN GAMES!!!
Doesn't matter if Iman isn't a perfect shooter. He literally OOZES positive energy that picks up the rest of the team. Guys that have always been high energy and pumped guys looked down and lethargic before he started playing. Now guys are moving and grooving on O and D. That's the most important factor for this team. Iman gets into the teeth of the D which we DESPERATELY needed!!! Those drives and little shovel passes to open teammates are exactly what this team needs to run a high efficiency offense. That says he's capable of running the point and should get even better as he learns more tricks of the trade and gains more experience.
Just put this in your thought process when evaluating Shump. His success isn't predicated on some scoring explosion that could be a fluke. He's been successful doing the little things. Defense, rebounding, solid passing, smart decision making and being able to control his urge to shoot the ball just cuz he has it in his hands. That's who he is and has always shown himself to be in college. People focused on the wrong things. They said he couldn't run point, but he was a PG his whole career. He's succeeded so far just being who he is. He hasn't changed a thing. (except shooting too much, which he was compelled to do on a bad college team )
