Q. smackeddog - Please tell me how you would have signed Tyson Chandler in the offseason?

A. I send Paulie Walnuts to Dallas.

With the lure of Stoudemire and the big city, Tyson gets Eddy Curry's chedda.

Eddy Curry's expiring

Wilson Chandler gets qualifying offer

Ha! It would have been interesting to see that team with Tyson Chandler though- that was always it's glaring weakness- the lack of a C and it's defense.

We traded half our team for a guy that virtually is the same player, as our best player. It works in Miami because Lebron and Wade are unselfish and play exceptional defense.

Is there a difference between Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson?

We had to take on Balkmans contract, Fields went from promising trade chip and glue guy to having no value, Gallo and Chandler virtually duplicate Melo’s production and spaced the floor and both were unselfish, Felton was playing at a fringe all-star level and developing serious chemistry with STAT, AR and Moz were both raw, but useful projects.

Does that add up to a championship? No it doesn’t, but there is an opportunity to build with pieces and have flexibility. Right now our roster consists of a lost second year SF starting at the guard position, a combo guard that’s lost his confidence playing out of position, a jump shooting power forward how isn’t being aggressive, a journeyman past his prime point guard, a former all-star injured point guard who we are all hoping returns to his Golden State form and a defensive center whose needs a pg to get him easy buckets.

Melo is a closer I get it. He’s great when the game is on the line, but with this team the game is always going to be on the line. He needs to score 35+ to get us wins because we have no depth and balance.
If someone can explain how we get that and who do we add that’s something to talk about…

Knicks built a great frontcourt... now they need depth and guards.

We are still talking about Denver? They are 7-4, 5-1 at home and beat Mil, NJ, NO, Utah and Sac there. They have 2 quality wins (LAL who they also lost too and Dallas who was playing 2nd game of a b2b, which we have established here means its no longer a quality win)

Sorry... your still not saying anything

You claim to want discussion, OK...

-We have a great front-court but our team is getting out-rebounded 43.5 to 40.9.
-We have a great front-court but our opponents are beating us in blocked shots.
-Our great SF and PF are shooting .439 and .420.

Serious question: What qualities does a great front-court have and in what ways does ours demonstrate them?

RonRon @ 1/13/2012 12:11 PM
Amare is the only one that makes a lot of money after that its something like

Felton
Turiaf
Wilson Chandler
Gallo
Randolph
Mosgov

We might have to move Turiaf but with Wilson Chandler and Gallo, still in their rookie deals, we have plenty of $ balanced out after Stat.
We have a lot of players that can be moved as well. I wonder what would Fields value would be at, assuming he never lossed his mojo...

Never showed Gallo anything but love. You must have The Answer Man confused with someone else.

I beg to differ. I remember it quite well. You weren't a Gallo fan - many nights you clamored for "The Mayor" to start ahead of Gallo. Basically any time Wilson had more points than Gallo off the bench.

misterearl @ 1/13/2012 12:16 PM
The Donnie Walsh Master Plan

(Correction and Upgrade)

Felton
Fields
Gallinari
Stoudemire
Tyson Chandler (Stat gets the paint back with Felton and Fields smiling at each other)

Bibby
Shumpert
Wilson Chandler
Anthony Randolph
Timofey Mozgov (quality depth, size, scoring and defense to hold leads, did someone say Minute Men?)

Jeremy Lin
Toney Douglas, resting his shoulder
Shawne Williams, who is pissed that he must work hard for minutes
Jared Jeffries for comic relief
Josh Harrellson (Gar-BAGE time is time for auditions)

I was a big Wilson Chandler fan. I liked him more than Gallo because I felt Gallo didn't have the foot speed to play multiple positions.
While Wilson Chandler might not have as much skill and basketball skill as Gallo, but he was more versatile and the better defender.
Gallo also had much more trade value than Chandler, while Wilson Chandler was one of our best shot blockers and help defender for years.

MS @ 1/13/2012 12:33 PM
That's the big issue. What is the plan here?

Our big weakness last year was never scoring. It was defense. What's are weakness now? Scoring and defense. Just make sure you're improving on something before you make a deal.

We could have had Chandler this offseason if we didn't trade for Melo. Which would have made us a better team than we are now with guys that could keep improving. We would also have our amnesity to us use.

Well, we traded Gallo and our defense is better than it ever was with Wilson. Soooo.... theoretically you should be happy.

Defense is actually a strength now.

And yes, the offense is still being figured out. Baron helps. It also helps if Melo and Amar'e are on the court.

Man, you guys realize 24 hours ago how different ALL OF YOU sounded?

All of who? MS, Raven, many others, and I have consistently disagreed with the path the team is on.

Where was this thread when we beat Boston? Instead of creating another thread, why not just re-up one of the hundreds of threads created toward the end of last year that bitched and complained that we traded a bunch of nice complimentary pieces?

+1

I'm not the biggest fan of the team after the Melo trade.

But I think this team can still win some games and play strong basketball.

I am hoping it will 'click' soon.

MS @ 1/13/2012 1:11 PM
Below is the issue. The Knicks have had the easiest schedule in the league. We aren't losing to good teams.

Our wins
Philly (7-3)
Boston (4-5)
Kings (4-7)
Detriot (2-9)
Bobcats (2-9)
Washington (1-9)

Our loses
Lakers (8-4)
Memphis (4-6)
Toronto (4-7)
Warriors (3-7)
Bobcats (2-9)

Wednesdays I teach until 9PM unfortunately and am then tired and I go to bed. Anyone who's paid attention here would say that my evaluation of the team has been consistent.

I just want to know if this team/organization has an actual plan. Secure a 6th seed get swept and raise ticket prices 54%. Start a war with Time Warner and up prices for MSG. Seems like it's just assemble stars to up prices without a plan.

We essentially broker down a town of Chandler, Gallo, Crawford, Lee, Zbo, lottery pick for Amare, Chandler, Melo, Shump, Fields, Douglas. Which team wins head to head right now? It sounds crazy, but I am not sure that we do.
