Everyone wants us to go find the PG to solve all our problems... let me ask you something. With whatever cap room we have available, name me what level of talent can we bring in to play point guard. You better forget the "Come play with Amare and melo" line. These guys want to get paid and their are other teams out there willing to offer more with a deeper team. So please give me some insight on what point guard you all think we are going to find with 2.5 million. Problem is Amare our max player Amare is not a max player. He has no post game to score down in the paint. Bynum and Gasol have done fine Fisher at point guard. They are post players who don't try to play small forward like Amare. Amare does not rebound, Does not play difference and can not create for himself like Dirk. Hell I can name you players that all can create for themselves. Chris Bosh can create for himself. He has post up game...Dirk/Bynum/Gasol. We have a PF that plays like a SF who tries face up and drive the ball can no longer take his man the off the dribble. He is now causing turn overs and getting the ball stripped. How many times have we seen him take it into the lane and clumsily loose the ball or have it stripped away. He has been getting rejected at a higher rate and his mid range jumper isn't falling. He is the worst the defender in the NBA. He is a mediocre rebounder given the fact that he is 6'11 and 250 pounds and still a good leaper.
So what point guards are we giving to bring that will accept. Felton is making 7 million out in Portland.
Ramon Sessions- 4 million in Cleveland.
Not that I thought JJ Barea was a good fit for this team but he is making 4 million on the Timber wolves. This is just an idea what kind of money is being thrown at these point guards. So what do you expect to find at point guard?
You have to deal Shump for Ridnour. It's the only solution I see if Baron doesn't work out.
Who know's if they even do that. He is our best defender. If we lose Shump we have no defender to keep our team from getting abused by penetrating PG's and SG's. We all saw TD and bibby get abused. Shumpert has Held his own against good PG's and SG's. He can guard the best PG's and SG's on the other team. He is our best defender.
Or we can stop panicking and sign on with the mid level next season...
We don't need a superstar pg. We just need a competent one. We can get that with the MLE. Hell, Lin is probably a good enough PG for us if MDA would play him, and if Shumpert could let go of his tendency to jack up shots and focus on distributing the rock, he has enough skills to play PG for us. We can find a pg. The frontoffice just needs to focus on that this offseason.
This was covered in the other PG thread. There are so many strong players available next summer. Nash, Sessions, and Miller are 3 players who will be definitely willing to play here in a winning situation for the mid level. And we don't need a star, just a solid PG who can bring it together. There are probably 20-30 PGs who can be effective here in solving the main issues.

BTW, overreact much?
Baron Davis this season, or package Fields and Douglas for a PG like Ridnour, Sessions, etc.
If that doesn't work out Nash or Andre Miller this summer. Doesn't have to be a star, simple as that.
I agree but what is wrong with Baron Davis? is it a far gone conclusion that his back is definitely not holding up? If he is healthy I rather have him than Sessions or Miller. He is a much better player

Me too i think he could be great. I just took this thread as under the idea that the Davis project could fail. If he stays healthy though he could be the best fit of them all.
How did he hurt his back again? What are the chances he comes back is stays healthy?

+1 Shump is very valuable as a defender, and we can let his offense come along slowly. Too much to ask Shump to play extended PG minutes right now.

Ridnour is 31 yrs old. NO WAY anyone that knows basketball does this trade/

He will provide a steady hand. But I didn't know he was 31, I thought 30.

I like Ridnour, but trading Iman for him? Are you out of your mind like your your username? =P
I guess the whole point is if Baron looks like Bibby when he comes back, we're going to be in bad shape. :p
As I mentioned in a previous thread - the biggest issue with the Knicks right now is the lack of an established veteran *guard* (of any sort) on the roster. A veteran SG can bring stability to our young guards almost as much as a veteran PG.
Need someone NOT extremely naturally talented to teach Shumpert/Fields/Douglas/Walker when to pick and choose their spots... and how to get to the basket.
The alternative is find a top PG with uncanny talent (Baron) who can lead the team. The problem with premium talent is that it's not something you can teach. And guys with that ability (aka Carmelo) rarely have the ability to be effective mentors, because they see the game a very different way.
Felton to Billups to Davis to Nash.........

Hahahahaha.
Our boy Ridnour dropped 25 and 9 on 'em today.

Yeah agreed. I'm not sure what everyone else was watching last season when he dominated the Knicks, while on the Cavs. He still plays at a high level and is always near the top in assists, so he's my clear cut number 1 choice.
The Knicks basically have no PG right. TD = nope, Shump = developing, but he's a SG, Bibby = spot up shooter
I think Baron is gonna also bring some cohesion and leadership when he returns because he seems to get alot of respect from NBA vets and will help Amare get outta this slump.
The Magic game was a depressing reminder of how badly we need an above average starting PG, not necessarily an All Star. Douglas and Shumpert (Fields too) kept driving into the paint, getting in the air before trying to figure out what to do next. Usually it was a desperation pass. I know Howard in the paint makes it tough on everyone but this is nothing new. Shumpert was doing a better job of driving and dishing earlier in the season, hopefully he can get back to that. He did have a nice pass to Melo in transition. They should be trying to keep their dribble until they know what they're going to do next.
I hope that its going to be a relatively healthy Davis/Bibby at PG soon. Let Fields/Douglas/Shumpert compete for starting SG. Douglas was playing better when Bibby was running the point and setting him up for open jumpers.
Bum ass Luke Ridnour is not going to solve any problem lol.
