Knicks · Gallo/Denver Article --- You don't have to read it! (page 4)

The Knicks have been teased over the last decade by one big ticket player after another who used the Knicks as leverage to get a better deal elsewhere. Who knows what would have happened in the offseason? It was expensive but I'm glad they made the deal, even after tonight's pathetic performance by Melo.

And don't worry once the Nets panick we can trade Carmelo for DWill and sign Chandler with the midelevel and have a balanced unselfish team again. Everyone wins.

Amare is the weakest link. Can't rebound, worst starting PF in the NBA(he even sucks on team D/help D). Needs a point guard to get his shot.

Melo/Dwill passing and scoring and defense and duration. Dwill/Stat pick and roll but defensively worst and passing is worst. Amare's One injury away from retirement... Did I mention he is the worst starting defender in the NBA? I've seen guys who play pick up games put more effort on D.

Just a dumb statement right there. You should say "Happy April Fools" just to save face. Amare is far from the worst. I like Amare, liked him when he got here. Liked him all last season. In all honest he reminded me of Larry Johnson in terms of leadership and intangibles and I am completely dumbfounded by the shrinking violet he became when Melo came. He showed balls signing here but they liked dropped in reverse when Melo got here.

Just because Melo is the best player it does not make him by default the leader. I never saw Melo as a leader, even after we got him.

There are some people on ths board who are melo fans and think he is our savior even though this team has been worse since his arrival

I don't get it.. I was ok with adding him as a FA, but not for this trade.. I hated it then and hate it even more now..

He's not supposed to be a savior, but a major part of the equation. Team hasn't been designed around him properly yet. He brought a team to the playoffs every year without another star. The package of players we sent for him are not playoffs leading players. People who don't like the trade are always going to hate every Knick trade and hold out hope for some hypothetical scenario where we always have flexibility, the idea of a future without a real plan, and the idea that someday we will draft our own superstars.

sorry man i just can't live in the fantasy world because it wouldn't be the truth. I mean You have to understand its not just about top players its about depth and having a good collection of players. Now i'm not saying the guys we had we gonna bring us to teh title but they fit this system. I never said melo shouldn't be a knick i simply said the particular trade was stupid and donnie walsh agreed

We gave up a lot but you still do the deal 10 out of 10 times. The only fantasy world is the one that has Gallo and Felton leading the charge to a title. I agree you need depth, but you build a team around stars first then add depth thru trades and free agent exceptions in the summer. The cap doesn't allow building the opposite way. You build around young rotation players, you have to eventually pay them. So you get stuck paying Gallo, Chandler, and Felton 10 million each because they "fit the system." Would that have been the plan?

maybe not.. maybe you package your pieces for a piece that actually fit... gallo is 23, his game is far from being a finshed product at this point.. we keep our picks, just think how well we have done lately with our draft...melo was a dolan move.. dolan is an idiot.. idiots make stupid moves..

Guys, he was not going to be a FA and just sign here. He was going to the Nets.

HE was not going to test FA in summer of lock out.

He needed two operations. Things can go wrong when you operate. When you don't have a contract for 80million something goes wrong its a big freaking deal! If your a Net, not so big a deal.

We bailed out Nuggs to the extent they played it great to get the knicks in the bidding war and created a market for melo. Nets backed away from the table when the price got silly. Donnie walked away from the table until little Jimmy had a hissy fit. Little Jimmy always gets his way. His way don't produce, but he got his star.

Amare was a good signing, but lets be real, we outbid anyone. We got Melo cuz we out bid the Nets.

I don't know why people can't realize he was not going to last to free agency. Maybe we could have gotten D Williams instead, but i think Melo is better and i would rather have him.

He wasn't going to last to a free agent, you need to realize that. We traded our best players, but players that needed to be paid. It's better to pay big money to stars then big money to a bunch of role players. You will realize that when you see the problems Denver runs into very soon. They got rid of Felton before they had to make that decision, which is smart. They are going to lose Chandler. Gallo is no Melo.

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 1/19/2012 9:33 AM
Gallo is no Melo but he is not a mere role player.

The kid is a special player that is still on his way up, he has not scratched too deeply the surface of his potential.

He's a significant piece that you will build with, if not around.

Who was the Star on Detroit's most recent championship?

MS @ 1/19/2012 9:44 AM
So why do you do this deal 10 times out of 10.

Carmelo isn't a superstar, he isn't a gamechanger. Clearly. Is this open to debate? Not at 6-8. Not with one win over a team above .500 mind you that we got on a back to back to back while we had a night off.

Our biggest strength was our offense. Carmelo doesn't make the offense better he make's it worst. He doesn't add to the defense and he replicates our franchise player. Who was a risk to sign to begin with.

He is what the trade took away.

1. An identity
2. Team Work
3. Draft Picks (very important) When you consider late round picks Douglas, Fields, Harrelson, Shumpert
-unlike Isiah we have competant drafters in the organization
4. Young Size - Mozgov and AR (Young size off the bench or even starting in Moz case)
5. A SF combination better than Carmelo that was improving (Wilson/Gallo)
6. A floor general (Felton)
7. Value (Who wants Fields are Amare)
8. Flexibility

Everyone thinks we had to make the move. Why? Where was Carmelo going? Denver? New Jersey? Fine, please be our guest. It's not like Chris Paul wasn't available. They got a lottery pick and kid that can't stay on the floor with massive talent. There is never a need to panic. That's why half the teams in the league or losing money, because they sign guys that are in contract years that are playing for money or overvalue "stars" or their best player

We do for sure. It's sad. I find it hard to believe Davis is going to be our lord and savior.

If the Knicks didn't trade for Melo yea they would be better than they are right now but that would just be a 500 team and wouldn't get better, I saw plenty of times where last season at the end of the game it was Amare by himself getting swarmed by defender with no help. Give it time the team has upside but I feel Dantoni has got to go.

+100000, couldn't of said the first part any better! We would be the same average team in 8th place right now with significantly less upside.

Ty may not be here and we wouldn't have had room for Shawne(if he resigned)and Jorts. Also who says we draft Iman? We still woulda had Felton(young PG), Chandler(our "2") and Gallo, as our SF.

RonRon @ 1/19/2012 6:50 PM
Iman was drafted to be a PG/SG. We don't have a natural SG. We don't even have a natural backup PG.

Wilson can play some SG/PF but that is not his natural position, hes a SF.
Gallo is a SF.
Fields is a SF that plays SG because Amare and Wilson Chandler causes mismatches at the Center and PF, with Felton's ability to penetrate.

Center was clearly the position we needed, with Vucevic out of our hands.
Sure I don't know if we would have targeted Tyson Chandler, but you don't we wouldn't have either.
No one expected him to be available and to have him showing his value last year with Dallas winning...
