Knicks · Baron Davis' Impact (page 1)

With that said, I really think we are going to be in for a pleasant surprise when Baron returns. Yes, I realize some will say his back won't hold up, he's lazy, he's a chucker and whatever else, but I really think he will bind this squad together, bring alot of fluidity to the offense, and, most importantly be the leader they desperately need.

For Melo - He seems to be a good communicator, which we've all seen from watching him on the bench this year and Melo seems like he usually stops to listen to him, whereas, he is usually spacing out when the coach is mumbling his "let's go" BS in his ear. I think once on the floor, being a well respected vet allows him to get in Melo's ear when he is chucking his nonsense at the rim and stopping the ball.

For Amar'e - We all know he can beast with the right PG and is probably one of, if not the best, PnR forwards in the NBA. Billups, imo, was never great at this and I believe that Baron is going to tremendously help in this specific aspect, which will open up the entire floor and hopefully help coordinate the spacing, which has looked horrendous up to this point.

For Tyson - Really similar to what he'll do for Amare, Baron likes throwing the lob and can do it very well because he is a solid penetrator (which we haven't had since God knows when).

I see him making Landry a more confident player and allowing Shump to move to a more natural off guard position and not have to shoulder so much weight. The main point of emphasis here is that the respect that he seems to have among the players and being a big personality and the PG will allow him to become the alpha because it seems that Amare (since trade) and Melo are not taking to that role very well, in terms of leadership.

If I am wrong and it's a complete disaster, I 'll deservedly take my lumps from posters here and my buddies I've repeatedly said this to, but honestly I think many of us are in for a surprise.

good question. No clue

A pick up game for some charity he had, it happen like a week before a deal was struck

We are relying on him for 40+ games. Luckily we have great PG options in the summer if it doesn't work out.

Baron Davis was banging Ciara while Amare was recovering

on a serious note, I think Iman needs to be the starter so we finally have 2 guys capable of penetrating.
At the same time, I think we need a scorer to go with

JJ
Jorts
Fields or Iman

the useless
------------------------------------------

TD
Bibby again, don't play them together, it lights up 2 mismatches in our opponents eyes
Walker I really cant stand Walker, even though he is the only one on our bench that can put points at times. His bad coordination, clumsiness, bonehead fouls, and
hes a huge mismatch with his bad D, should be only play SF

the ones that cant crack the rotation
------------------------------------------

Lin - We could really use him at the very least till Baron returns. TD, Bibby do not have the combo of speed, quickness, and IQ. He can fight threw the screens as well. I keep saying, we are missing 2 guys that can penetrate. It is part of our spacing problem and why we are not efficient.

Novak - whoever that is defending him, most likely will not cheat. He doesn't shoot if a guy is next to him or has their hand up. He is a one dimensional player, he doesn't take bad shots or make mistakes with the limited playing time I have seen. He is also suffering from the lack of ball movement, penetration, and plays/picks.

Balkman - I like what Balkman gives but I think part of the reason he doesn't play is because Tyson Chandler and JJ both have no shot. To put Balkman in, there would be too much cheating, even though he is our best defender at the SF. He has to stay away from Amare because he has such a bad handle to begin with.

The media, the fans, maybe MDA, the front office and Dolan can now all pin their hopes on 'When Baron returns'.

How is he returning to our line up, he was never part of it.

Sorry, I didn't realize we had a lawyer in the house, arguing semantics. Should have stipulated "when he returns to the court"

If you're correct and he's a bum, I'll gladly come back to the thread and give you a pat on the back.

But, like JoeC noted, averaging 12 and 7 in 30 mpg, in an off year to boot, ain't bad. My hopes aren't soley on him, it's what his impact will bring to the team off to a slow start in a short season.

If this guy drops 12 and 7 in 30 minutes, the Knicks are winning some games my friend.

sealy - With what you said, The Answer Man offers that Baron returning to play at a high level, with significant minutes, is a pie bomb. Not a pipe dream. A pie bomb - waiting to explode on many faces like a custard cream pie in a comic skit.

For Melo - He needs to relearn moving without the ball and be much more decisive when he catches it. Cut the reliance on the solo act and NOT revert to his imitation of Dominique Wilkins, no matter what the score is. No more standing around watching him either. Reset the prime expectations to 7 assists a night from Carmelo.

For Amar'e - his beasting days are over. No more putting the ball on the floor because you are a turnover waiting to happen. The "MVP" chants of last season were not simply for him, but the WAY the entire team was playing. He needs to stop thinking your scoring as his main contribution. Reset expectations to 10 rebounds and a MINIMUM of 5 assists a night from Stoudemire.

For Tyson - If David Lee was a double double machine, no reason Tyson Chandler should be an afterthought on offense. Get him the dam ball after he learns a hook shot or a 12 foot step back jumper. Herb Williams, ear you salary. Reset expectations to 12 points and 10 rebounds a night.

Landry Fields - keep doing what you have been doing which is whatever it takes. Keep moving without the ball and become more vocal. You are one of the longest tenured Knicks so why not be a leader? The captain thing is over rated and poorly assigned, or else Melo and Amar'e would not have ugly 7-55 shooting nights like last night. Reset expectations to 12 points and 10 rebounds a night.

Iman Shumpert - honesty? Is your knee 100 per cent? If not, have a seat until you are. Reset expectations to a triple double - and no, that does not include turnovers.

Each individual needs to change. Change.

Thats not good. It took Amare a long time to be able to do basketball drills again after spending all summer rehabbing his back. And I would assume it'd be easier for Amare because he is a gym freak. Now we're rushing Davis back after only 2months of rehab? Maybe they are different injuries

"The next time we see Stoudemire post up someone with his back to the basket on the block will be the first time we've seen it this season. The same could be said about any post moves he has in his arsenal; we haven't seen one since last season."

- Steven A Smith

5-22 is a line from a "star" player too stubborn to realize he is off.

Each individual needs to change. Change that Carmelo.

gunsnewing wrote:FUCK Steven A. He was leading the charge that you give Denver everything you have to get a player like Melo. For all we know Dolan's dumbass was problably listening to him and Isiah. Steven A did nothing but discredit Gallo, Wilson, Felton, Mozgoz & Donnie for wanting to hold on to some of them

Steven A Smith is not the enemy.

The enemy is us.

First - I wasn't criticizing your use of the term return - but the media, and everyone else is saying when he returns to the line up. he never was part of it.

Not a lawyer, but I do play one on tv. Kidding.

Nor am I saying he's going to be a bum. But everyone is treating him like some star that is instantly going to change our fortunes, and everyone is saying - wait until D'Antoni has his PG, things will be fixed.

His biggest impact - giving everyone an excuse for the pathetic effort this team has put out.

I hope he fixes our problems, plays lights out, guides us to the play offs.

But the lottery tickets I buy aren't paying my bills. I can have hope, but then there is realism

ChuckBuck wrote:God, I'll take a bad back BD all day vs Shump/TD duo! Love Shump on D, but besides bringing the ball up the court, he cannot initiate the offense effectively (though an upgrade over TD). Can't remember the last pick and roll ending with Stat dunking(Felton?).

How sad is that? And people here thought we didnt need BD, Toney would be fine running the offense. LOL.
