I think Barron will only hide the big issue....Melo is starting to become a cancer for this team. He wants to be like Kobe or Jordan, and that mentality is killing the offense. Don't be fooled by the tough shots and clutch performance. Until we get a veteran coach thats not afraid to pull Melo out the game, we will always be 1 Melo ISO away from a 1st round exit. He might even carry us to a 2nd round. But unless Magic Johnson is running the point....I don't see Dantoni and Melo winning anything together.
But unless we bring in a well respected coach with some balls, who knows how to coach ego type superstars, or a HOF point guard who can actually be a floor coach during the games....we will be no better than a second round side show, that will continue to keep the NBA media in business.
Mike's offense is simple....Shoot when open, and keep the ball and body moving. Do you think Melo is moving the ball? It's obvious he's doing his own thing. The problem is I only see one coach that can coach Melo right now, and thats Phil. Meanwhile, Barron will be able to cover up those coaching issues for the rest of the season....But Melo's 1 on 1 strategy will come out again in close games / playoffs, and we will continue to be inconsistent.
After 9 yrs in the NBA, he still doesn't make his teammates better! Stat with 1 shot attempt after the 3rd quarter? With a game that went in double overtime? A player who was MVP type last season? Wow....

You complain about what Melo is going 1v1 but Amare barely touched the ball with all those Iso's.
When he did touch the ball, he was not doing 1v1, he was working the ball.
He was looking to get his team involved and trying to lead by example.
The one rare play which Melo got back the ball in the end when he passed it to Fields, i think.
And Fields passed it back, to Melo, WIDE Open for the 3 and hit it.
Melo went 1v1 90% of the time, he did throw it out a couple times to Fields, Bibby, TD, Iman, Jorts, but YES he went back to ISO crazy.
Iman and TD both eventually went back to him play after play towards the end.
This is where a veteran PG, has the respect to create but Melo also must by in it.
If not he will just be a Gatorade bottle on the court.
Problem is Baron is a gunner too. He's plays PG, but he's a gunner in his heart. What happens when two gunners play together?
If you're a fan of ISO's, you'll be watching even more of it when Baron comes back.

Baron has been a gunner because he's had to. For the most part, Baron has been the guy who had to distribute and score for his team. Here his #1 priority is to pass the rock. It's going to take some time as well. I'm dreading the FU Baron Davis threads after his 1st 3 games.
The guy will not be a savior. He was damping expectations the other night because he sees this is a runaway train and he's not confident his body can play the part.
He will improve our record yes. Long term is hard to tell.

No only the delusional have the energy to entertain the fantasy that an injured player will come back an contribute meaningfully.
Like Kelenna Azubukke.
Like Tracey McGrady did.
Like Steve Francis did.
Like Penny Hardaway did.

i guess i mean, i think they'd be 10-6 right now instead of 6-10. at least.
I felt at the begining of the season with a healthy Baron we should be able to be compmetitive with Boston and Miami. Even with MDA's non coaching. But I don't think that would happen now.

That's what happens when you start with unrealistic expectations.
Talent would be there. The chemistry is somewhat off and the leadership on the bench I vastly overrated. So my expectations were unrealistic.

Ok. Lets make an Apple pie. We got most of ingredients but no apples. We made the pie. The pie is bad. Now, the question is, will adding apples improve the pie? My guess is yes. Now, if the cook sucks its still not gonna be a very good pie. But it will be better, by default. One might say, "I don't think its gonna improve the pie. Think about all the Times that we tried adding ingredients in other recipes. We tried potatoes in pancakes, we put redishes in muffins, etc. Didn't help us then, and its not gonna help us now. Besides, there apples are Macintosh and not Granny Smith. Any cook knows you need Granny Smith to make Apple pie. " These arguements do not apply to us because in order to make Apple pie we need apples.
I really hope he can- I voted yes, but I am worried that he may show up done, or might re-injure himself. At his most basic, what he offers us is some leadership, intelligence and experience at Pg- Bibby doesn't have the same kind of presence that BD does. If he can play, he takes the ball out of Melo's sticky hands- the offense won't be run through him anymore, which hopefully will lead to less selfish play. D'Antoni will actually be able to call plays now and actually have a PG who ensures they're carried out. Also, even if it's only psychological, he might give Amar'e the boost he needs.
Yes he could be washed up, and that would be just our luck, but I just hope that for once we catch a break here.
I have zero confidence in broke back Davis contributing until early April.
A herniated disk sounds like it hurts.
Baron Davis is a cameo player who can take Toney Douglas' minutes. If we a fortunate. Davis starting every night is out of the question.
Three games in five days is young mans work.

And not just any apples. Granny Smiths.
We could also try for an apple turnover, or an apple crisp or something - or maybe a blueberry tart. Do we have any blueberries?

To answer your question with any degree of certainty we just have to ask Dolan what his favorite dessert is.
