You turn the roster over on him every year and you trade away a solid young team and destroy all value in your remaining starters for a guy that's not a leader.Look at what he has to work with: fields, Douglas, balkman, link, Novak, Jordan, walker, bibby.
Great work by the front office. Bibby has sucked for three years why is he taking up a roster spot?
The Nets actually have the same record as we do without brook Lopez. I'm at my wits end with this organization. At what point do you cheer for someone else? Why show loyalty to a team and and owner that basically says go fuck yourself every season.
Try coaching with a center that doesn't score, a shooting guard that can't shoot, I point guard that doesn't know how to pass, a sf that insists on running isolations and a of.that can't defend or rebound. Fellas that's what we are working with...
There use to be a time in the NBA when a player that can post and iso was considered valuable...But when u have three ball express I guess it a liability...Bill Walker/Novak/TD/your choice just jacked another three...

Nah, it's not enough. Sick and tired of people living in a bubble and always having these grandiose expectations for the franchise. We're always "one ______ away" from contending. Always. we're always searching for that one thing. When are we, as fans, going to realize it isn't just one thing?
Like I said, I've hated Mike for years, even before it was popular to hate Mike.
But by firing him all you're doing is making him the scapegoat for a poorly constructed roster.
I was pissed we got rid of Billups to sign Chandler. I'm still pissed about it now.
Chandler is a good center but also overpaid. And at the expense of Billups? We could have signed someone like Dalembert and kept Billups at the same time. Camby..what about him? Guy is still playing great at his age. There were options. We went with Chandler. It's not a bad thing but it is when you lose your only point guard.
We really thought we'd be fine without Billups but now you know how much he meant to the team.
But then I looked at the Billups led teams here in NY and I still saw flaws, like how Amar'e and Carmelo could still not play well together in the same game or at the same time. One was taking a backseat to the other. They were still having problems meshing but Billups was at least around as a veteran leader and PG to keep the offense moving. They still didn't look great on offense, though. Not with all that "firepower". I just don't think this combo of Amar'e and Carmelo will ever work. Amar'e looks like he wants to be traded. This guy went from Amar'e to post-Knicks McDyess in a millisecond.
Whether he gets fired or not, I could care less. I don't like him. But there has to be some rationality here. Blindly calling for his head like some new coach is going to come in here and wave a magic wand and make things right is not my style. This guy, for all his faults, knows how to coach offense. We can diss him for many things - like 3 pointers, like it was Nash that made him good, etc. - but all his players have praised him for his offense and I can't doubt he has that talent. When the likes of Kobe and LeBron and such are saying you know your stuff on offense then that's the best recommendation you can get. If this guy can't get these players to play offense the right way then I, in my opinion, believe nobody can. This guy is not even running SSOL anymore. He's doing anything he can in his playbook to adjust to this iso ball garbage but he just can't make it work. And I don't believe any coach will. Sure, we can try it, but it will just be a waste of time. We have a very good offensive coach right here and we're failing miserably. I don't think an inferior coach like Woodson will change that.
At the end of the day the people who think D'Antoni is 100% at fault will be the ones that will be disappointed if that doesn't happen, not me. I'm just trying to make it a point that D'Antoni is not the reason for our current failures. Of course he is not without fault but the team as constructed wont win with any coach and I firmly believe that.
Anyway, we all know what will inevitably happen and we can't stop it. We'll just change coaches like changing underwear while Dolan orgasms at his ticket sales.
As I said before...D'Antoni will eventually be fired, Woodson will replace him until the end of the season, we'll be begging Phil Jackson out of retirement and he'll decline, we'll then hire *insert retread coach here* to replace D'Antoni/Woodson, we'll still be failing miserably again because of poor management and personnel and finally we'll fire Glen Grunwald and trade Amar'e after his value has decreased immensely for what turns out to be more cap killing crap. And round and round we go on this ride we call The Dolan Express. I've been on this ride before. We can't stop Dolan. We can only hope to contain him.
You think after the trade that our bench is stronger or weaker? So who is MDA supposed to play that is gonna really fix all our problems off the bench? Lin is still green and trying to learn the system on the fly. Other than him who else is proven to be able to make a difference? This team needed it's best players to be playing at the top of their game cuz it's not a deep roster. When that didn't happen you get what you see now.

100% agree.
The only thing I want ot add that Mikes fate was decided after Malo trade and Walsh let go.
Since this moment he is just going through moutions.
He was probably the one who wonted the most for this season never start.
This team is biggest mess in NBA since Isiah Knicks. So we are losing only to ourself.
And we cannot blame anybody but ourselfs for being losers.
We fans continue to eat the crap we are given by Dolan so why he would bother to change anything.
When he made Rangers the biggest joke in NHL the fans stop showing up and this pushed the change.
Dolan stop dungling with the team and hockey in general and the team is slowly made his way back.
Not sure that Knicks can be as fortunate.

Yeah, stop eating the crap. Just think what you could be doing with that extra 9-12 hours per week.
It must really suck to work for the Knicks franchise. Otherwise, they'd have more pride in their work.

Walsh stepping down was a major sign that things would head downhill again.
I'm actually curious if Melo intentionally choose the Miami game to sit because the two do not get along and he wants him gone. I mean all indications seem to be that MDA didn't want the trade, then tries to make him a point forward early on, and Melo starts getting grief from the media about shooting too much and not being worth it.
This team has absolutely no depth and it has been a constant revolving door of players throughout his time as the HC. But one has to assume that MDA had a hand in picking up players like Jeffries, Bibby and Novak. Yet the backup/ alternate PG position was not addressed (prior to Baron/Chauncey) and seems to be what makes MDA's offense go, so it seems like a giant clusterfuck among the higher ups on personnel decisions and philosophies. I'd love to be a fly on wall and know what Walsh's take on everything is while he throws darts at pictures of Dolan.
Most people had to realize the Knicks weren't winning a title this year, but these performances are absolutely atrocious and unacceptable. Do they even run anything on offense other than the high screen and that BS weave that worked in one game?
Childs2Dudley wrote:This team sucks. What's the point of firing him? You think that's changing anything?
I think he deserved to be fired after 09-10. The Knicks management traded their point guard. Any coach needs a point guard but his system does not work without one. The Knicks traded 4/5 of a team that suited his offense for an iso player. Management is not doing anything to help him succeed. In the past he has shown himself to be very rigid in regards to the offense he runs. He left a roster and situation that suited him when he was asked to make changes in Phoenix. What is the benefit of keeping him?
You gotta believe that they know MDA is not this bad of a coach. There are some HUGE extenuating circumstances with this season. You all know what they are, but then to add that they don't have a PG on top of that is why this looks this bad.

well, if lack of continuity is the real reason that the team is struggling then changing the coach in mid-season would not help the cause. plus, with the condensed season and less practice time, how do you install a new system? we're better off keeping him and tanking OR keeping him and turning it around. i don't think this team gets better if you replace him with Woodson.

I don't believe that they're at the point yet where they would fire MDA. Not before they would get a chance to see what they could do with the full group of Baron, Melo, STAT and Tyson at least. It's still early enough in the season to wait and see how that looks. As frustrating as it is watching this BS, I agree with you. I see no point in firing him before the end of season, unless JAX or JVG is coming here to finish the year. Have less than zero faith in Woodson taking over.
I didn't know this, from Isola:
HOUSTON — If Isiah Thomas, Glen Grunwald and Mike Woodson weren’t college teammates at Indiana more than three decades ago, Mike D’Antoni would still be justified feeling threatened that those three were spotted together on Thursday in Miami.
But the dinner party at a trendy South Beach restaurant, which the Daily News has learned included several Garden employees, certainly raises eyebrows with D’Antoni fighting for his job and struggling to keep the Knicks from imploding. From all indications, D’Antoni is not in immediate danger of being dismissed as coach. Management appears to be willing to give him a chance to salvage the season with a healthy Baron Davis, who could return for Tuesday’s home game against Detroit.
We don't need a defensive coach!
seems we did better playing little defense.
Just saying.

There's always Isiah. He has experience coaching the Knicks.

That was a bizarre quarter. Weird lineup, only 14 points and no timeout during a game-crushing run by Rockets.D'antoni never calls a time out...he's waiting for Nash to save him.

His tenure with the Knicks has shown us that he was always one lucky dude who got to ride on Steve Nash's coattails. When you have a genius like Nash running the team for you it's easy. Unfortunately Nash wasn't a defensive genius so his Suns team didn't win a championship.
