Knicks · Jeremy Lin Plays Beautiful Basketball (page 3)

As long as Shump doesn't chuck, he'll be ok. Him and Lin together in the back court look great especially on the break.

“(scoring) is not really a conscious decision. If the ball comes back back to me, I’m going to try to make a play. Basketball is fun when you play on a team that wants to work together. The win was ugly but we made plays."

“It’s fun," D’Antoni said. “You can actually draw a play up and think, ‘this might work.’ He’s a playmaker. He has a nice gait and burst of speed. He kind of settles everything. He sets up guys for easy shots and plays the way we like to play. He has the innate ability to see guys. You can’t explain the game all the time and he doesn’t need explaining."

(Lin) found Steve Novak who finishing with 19. Lin tossed lobs to Chandler and picked-and-rolled with Jared Jeffries, who scored 13.

Lin's distribution has a tremendous domino effect on the rotation, relieving Shumpert from prime ball-handling responsibility. Fields gets looks on the move.

TJerk- With the Knicks learning the joy of team ball, and Lin in the game, they should NEVER run an isolation play, ever. Forever-ever.

If Steve Novak was more rugged on defense, he would be invaluable with Lin. As it stands, Novak can have ALL of Toney Douglas' minutes.

In a related story, Grunwald should be working the phones for another point guard who can be trusted - so that JLin can play less than 45 minutes a night. That is crazy. Playing that many minutes is a recipe for an injury.

Yeah. Lin is young, but you cannot run that kid for 45 minutes a game. Bibby should be able to give us 6-8 minutes. At this point, I think the team is going to just wait for Davis to get healthy. No point in getting yet another PG, unless you are going to cut Bibby, which the Knicks are not going to do (they would not want to embarrass him).

We've already seen Bibby has nothing in the tank. He's collecting a paycheck; hopefully he provides some value and direction during practice.
Watching Bibby come into games and go -10 in 6-8 minutes is not something anyone wants to see. I'd rather see Shump get 6-8 minutes at the point.

The Einstein vs Lin debate rages on...

Lin gained national attention for his performance against the 12th ranked Connecticut Huskies, against whom he scored a career-high tying 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds on the road. After the game, UConn coach Jim Calhoun said:

"I've seen a lot of teams come through here, and (Lin) could play for any of them. He's got great, great composure on the court. He knows how to play."

- In the second half, the Jazz gave Lin a different look. Devin Harris practically dry-humped him over halfcourt, and the Utah bigs began hedging and trapping with abandon and forcing Lin toward the sidelines, even doubling him occasionally in the absence of a screen. It was in that second half that Lin committed all eight of his turnovers, though that number isn't nearly as discouraging as it sounds.

For one, the kid looked like he was going to vomit and/or die in the third and fourth quarters.

For two, that trapping and doubling (which, in itself, was kind of encouraging) was a luxury the Jazz could only afford without Melo or Amar'e to worry about.

For three, at least a couple of those turnovers were passes that went awry because he was too ambitious or because the receiver wasn't expecting to be fed.

I've got no problem with those kinds of turnovers. So, eight turnovers in a half is pretty outlandish, but it just seemed like Lin was tired, victim of an attacking defense, and bold more than he was shoddy or out of control. And, sh#t, he made some fine-ass plays in between those turnovers. Lin finished 28 and 8, and he would've had more assists and that double-double if Chandler and Jeffries finished a couple more of his sexy passes."

It's so unfreakinglybelievably pathetic about how everyone in the world suddenly realizes how great an undrafted kid out of that basketball hotbed, Harvard, was going to be.

Do NBA scouts routinely scan checkout lines at Shop N Bags? How many Anthony Mason's are hiding in Turkey?

Craig the Idiot Carton on Boomer and Carton this morning: "...so you (some grunt on the show) did Columbia basketball for years, how come we never heard about Jeremy Lin?..."

Lin is the prototypical lightning in a bottle. Jrod say enjoy and shut up. Just hope we get to continue to rinse and repeat with this guy.

jrodmc - Golden State KNEW Lin could play when they signed him and watched him deal up Wall in Summer League. Watch the video. At one point, (Chris Webber?) laughs and screams after a creative Lin drive, "It's about to be a melee up in here!" Priceless.

The problem was Golden State was already three deep at guard. Fast forward to last night. Even LIN admits the shock of his performance, but he should not be. The Knicks were DESPERATE for just ONE fundamentally-sound floor leader who could improvise when pressed. Voila! Tyson Chandler is happy. Hell, Steve Novak is happy. Even Jared Jeffries is seen in a new light. So what if he blows a layup, Lin will get the ball to him where he is facing the hoop. Suddenly, watching the Knicks offense does not suck that bad.

Can you imagine what Jeremy and Amar'e can accomplish together?

Lin is in the right place at the right time.

That's not how they scouted him when you read up on him, but this kid has been proving people wrong for so long. High School, College and now the NBA. GOD, i'm so glad we picked him up.

close to Nash - a bit premature no? One of the top PG's of all time? 2 time MVP ...

We can't say that for at least another couple of games

When Lin can throw no look passes as easily as Nash and improve his shooting touch then the comparisons might be more appropriate.
He played amazing, really awesome, but we're setting ourselves up for a big letdown if we set the bar that high, this soon.

Lets just enjoy the moment.

I am hoping for - as good as Rubio. I think that is actually possible but it won't be easy. Love that guy

Rubio is something special, I honestly didn't believe he would play that well from seeing how he was buried on the bench in Europe.
His court vision is already among the league's best. At this point Lin effectively managing the offense will make me real happy.

I really really like Rubio and have watched a bit of him this year. He is not, in the games I've seen him, any where near the penetrator that Lin is, though he is good. Curious, is Rubio getting doubled like Lin did last night?

They both could use improvement on their outside shot.

Lin is clearly clearly clearly a better finisher. Rubio needs work there.

Rubio is a flashier passer and maybe a more natural passer when you see how effortless it is. But, Lin gets those passes where he needs to with just less flash.

They are both good defenders with very good hands. Lin seems much quicker, especially that first step.

Rubio has a better handle, that is clear. Lin's is adequate for now. I mean Rubio has played pro for a while.

Correct me on these points as I haven't see Rubio play a whole lot.

Oh, and I was reminded by the Einstein pic, eheheh, thx. Lin might actually have the higher BBIQ.

In the Knicks' 99-88 win over the Jazz Monday night, Jeremy Lin became the first player in more than 30 years to have at least 28 points and eight assists in his first NBA start.

The last player to do that? None other than former Knicks president and coach, Isiah Thomas. On Oct. 30, 1981, playing for the Pistons, Zeke had 31 points and 11 assists in his pro debut.

To emphasize how good Lin has been in just two games, here's a breakdown of NBA point guards with the best PER (player efficiency rating) and for players on the Knicks:

Highest PER By Point Guards This Season*

Chris Paul -- 26.7
Derrick Rose -- 25.3
Jeremy Lin -- 25.0
Steve Nash -- 23.4
Russell Westbrook -- 22.8
*Minimum 135 Minutes Played

Highest PER By New York Knicks This Season*

Jeremy Lin -- 25.0
Carmelo Anthony -- 20.8
Tyson Chandler -- 20.4
Amare Stoudemire -- 17.3
Landry Fields -- 13.1
*Minimum 135 Minutes Played

99 points per game
19 assists per game
47.9 field goal percentage*
*The Knicks are shooting 42.8 percent on the season (eighth-worst in the league)

Iman Shumpert

6-10 record as a starter
94.9 points per game
19.4 assists per game
43.0 field goal percentage

Toney Douglas

3-6 record as a starter
94.1 points per game

Don't confuse his Hall of Fame PG play with destructive management and coaching "skills".

You got to see the truth in the false. (Meaning as terrible in any one area he may be (false), you can't let that take away from being a Hall of Fame PG (true)). In general a very true way of looking at life.

can't wait for his summer league rematch with john wall on wednesday.

i hope he can keep it going.

but i would caution that we shouldn't get too carried away - he's going to hit some bumps in the road, but it damn sure looks like the kid can play.

the thing i really can't wait for is to see amar'e back in the pick and roll with an actual creator. (i hope amar'e goes through his hard time with his family and comes back soon.)
