Knicks · Jeremy Lin Plays Beautiful Basketball (page 9)

From NBADraft.Net

NBA Comparison: Zabian Dowdell

(who?)

Strengths: Jeremy is deceptively quick and athletic ... Noticeably has a quick first step ...

Has nice touch around basket, he's very crafty with the ball, excellent at changing direction ...

He sees a lane and takes it, and he's not afraid to get fouled ...

Can adjust his body and shot in mid air, absorbs contact well ...

Uses on-ball screens very well with an ability to explode to the hoop, solid handle, above average crossover and shows the ability to split double teams with ease ...

Can get in the paint and make plays for others ...

Plays solid off-ball defense, ability to see man and ball ...

Great awareness and reaction time ... Very effective in transition ...

Good lateral movement when playing man to man perimeter defense and high awareness when playing help defense ...

Has decent strength with long, solidly built arms ... Works hard at his game ...

Has shown the ability to step up in big games and make clutch plays (hit a game winner to open the season) ...

Weakness: Lacks a true position ...

Is not a natural playmaker but plays the position out of necessity at times for Harvard ...

Not a true point guard, and plays off the ball more effectively and often ... His dribble is too high making it easy for opponents to strip the ball away ...

More of a SF in a 6-4 body ... Doesn't seem to have much of a mid-range game, has ability to shoot the 3 but definitely not a strength ...

Not a pure shooter ... Does not seem confident at all when taking a jump shot, passes on wide open shots at times which he won't be able to do at the next level ...

Really needs to develop a pull-up or step back jumper, also has an unorthodox form on his shot ... His ISO skills are just average despite a quick first step ...

Much more effective spotting up than creating shots off the dribble ...

When fatigued tends to force the issue, turn the ball over, and take questionable shots ...

Plays in a very weak conference so his lack of competition and experience on a big stage is a hurdle ...

Notes: As one of the most successful Asian Americans in Division 1 basketball history, there is a lot of interest in him ... Has been featured in Time magazine and numerous publications ... Intrigue from NBA teams could become enhanced due to his marketing capacity ... And scouts don't rule out the possibility that he will be drafted ...

Good size, good athleticism, good ball handling, ability to finish at the rim. Combined with understanding the game he is a good fit when paired with our talented front court.

What is a "true" point guard?

i think this is the new fashionable knock on his game since he scored 38pts.

people forget that nash used to score 44pts, 48pts in the playoffs against the spurs, because the spurs were packing the paint and forcing nash to shoot.

take what the defense gives you. nash was a pure point and so is lin.

Lin is definitely the real deal. Before the Lakers game, I was telling my boy that defenses are going to start going under the picks to keep him out of the land and force Lin to shoot. The Lakers did that last night and Lin dropped 38 on em. Next up will be hard traps off the pick and rolls. This is where Melo and Stat will help him and team. Double up on Lin and leave someone open. Lin is def the real deal!!!

+1, just made that point in a different thread.

Last night, first thing Mike said was he didn't realize Lin had 38 points because they all came in the flow of the offense. Jeremy has made same incredible shots, but in the past 4 games, I can't think of a single time he forced it.

Looks like he has come a long way, eh? I'm sure they will work on the TO's but even with them, he's been incredible.

he has a good basketball IQ. hoe wont force a bad shot. The only small negative is that he needs to limit turnovers and he will as time goes on.

now i'm gonna sound like a real fucking fanboy, but i don't even mind his turnovers so much because he turns it over looking to get others involved. they're not heads down trying to barrel someone over turnovers.

that said, i'd like him to limit the turnovers, but not limit his creativity. you have to take the good with the bad.

part of why i think so many people though he couldn't excel at this level is because he looked really lost out there at times. he committed odd looking turnovers when he got small spurts of playing time. little did we know that he was really just getting a feel. poking and prodding into NBA defenses to get an idea of how the spacing works when every guy on the floor either has NBA level skills or NBA athleticism or both. it's gotta be a huge adjustment going from Ivy League level ball to the NBA.

eVil - Lin has never played this many minutes at the pro level. He was running on fumes and STILL managed to get to the rim and GET the pivotal call. He steps to the line, exhausted and ... (wait for it) makes the game winner.

Thank you Steve Novak. Thank you Landry Fields. Thank you Shump, you were all majestic.

gunsnewing wrote:the turnovers will go done once melo & Amare returns. Right now he is being asked to carry the team offensively. The ball is always in his hands of course he is going to turn the ball over more than the average pg.

Dunno about that. Amare commits a lot of t/os.

Lin went for 20 and 8 and it is feels like he had an off game.

Amar'e commits a lot of turnovers trying to create for himself. He may benefit from Lin more than Tyson has.

let's call a spade a spade: your posts are dumber by the day

“A lot like Nash, only more aggressive to the basket.” - Kobe Bryant

Making everyone better includes following his lead. Lin plays with no fear. None. He also plays in pain. Once his running buddies realized he was willing to sacrifice his body, they understood there was no reason to hold back. It is not a coincidence that Shumpert and Fields started slashing and crashing to the hoop.

Lin has played on fumes. As much as defenders doubling and tripling him, his errors have been due to exhaustion. Note how he has struggled in the second half of some games more than the first half. Playing extended minutes is a huge adjustment. Expect Lin to spend more time with a personal trainer in the off season.

You can bet your last money, honey, that Lin returns next season a chiseled 205 pounds.

My goodness. I just shake my head.
