Martin Defends Carmelo, Blasts Karl
Feb 19, 2012 1:35 PM EST
Kenyon Martin came to Carmelo Anthony’s defense when asked to comment on criticism levied against Anthony by current Nuggets coach George Karl.
"Man, listen, George needs to keep his mouth shut, first and foremost," Martin said. "Melo don't play there no more. So Karl shouldn't be commenting on Melo. If George was such a great coach, then Melo would want to stay. He wouldn't want to leave.”
Karl has often praised his team's new style and how the absence of Anthony has made his job easier.
"If the organization was ran right, he wouldn't want to leave, so it ain't Melo,” Martin said. “With Melo, not one time when he was there [in the Nuggets' locker room] did he bring that in the locker room when all that stuff was going on. Not one day. Everybody made it a bigger deal than it had to be. That's a good kid.
"They act like this kid was a cancer, like he came in there and destroyed the locker room and made everybody hate him. No, it wasn't nothing like that man. And it bothers me for people to be talking about how he's a selfish player and he has to defend himself."

When I say Melo sucks at basketball I don't meant this to say that he sucks as a human being.
Everyone takes any criticism of Melo as an assault on his person. This is not the case.
Guy plays iso. We're not an iso team.

Guy draws double teams from the midpost. If there were things like, you know, a system with some off-ball movement, cutters, etc, maybe it would resemble more team ball.
I lost all respect for you after this game btw.

Yea, if we only had a system with off-ball movement, cutters, etc....???
Melo is one of the best offensive players. That's a skill any team needs. Does he finally grow up and learn that if he does it in a system, that he will be better and be a contender for a championship? There's still a good part of me that wants to believe that he wants to get to that place. Let's give him the next 10 games. Too early for trade talk for a team that's being built on the fly -- the year's starting point guard is on the bench (and the guy on the bench is the starting PG), Amare's missing in action, Shump is a PG; no he's an SG, wait he's the team's lock down defender (i'll take the last), Fields is finding some consistency (except for his jumpshot) and JJ is revitalized. Baron is back. There's more drama here than you can contrive. (Well, OK marbs eating vaseline ...) But finally, everyone is on the roster. Let's give them the 10 games to figure it out. We stay at 500 in those games we're still in the playoffs.
I'm saying, you saw in the fourth quarter with Lin on the bench, Melo received the ball in his spot, Humphries immediately double teamed him, and Melo didnt hesitate to hit Amare for the ferocious AND-1 dunk. How often are there cutters when Melo gets the ball in his iso spot? Rarely.
