Just the fact we're talking about a power forward just shows how much a liability A'mare has been this year. He was a beat last year. All of a sudden the dude is Hakim warrick

for me he's Kurt Thomas of '99 without the defense.

It's unfortunate but true. I would say we are a title team right now with a stretch 4 like Ryan Anderson, as oppsed to Amare. Scary thought that it's come to that.

This wouldn't always work - he can't guard someone tall like Pau but I think it would work against most PFs.
I would like that too. It will never happen. Problem is that conventional thinking dictates you can't pay a guy $100 M over 5 years to be a bench player. So we have to justify his salary by starting him.
Do you guys really watch the games??? I'm truly amazed at this board ...Noval had zero rebounds and plays zero defense yet be his loved by all on this board.. Do you guys understand basketball???
Novak had 0 rebounds in 19 minutes..Not one poster questioned this ???
Amare made basketball relevant again in NY..He had 7 shot attempts last game...SEVEN..

Melo had 7-8. Which is exactly why he is better suited to play PF.
But Lin/JR/Novak/Melo/Chandler is lethal on offense and can manage on defense.

six turnovers in one half. SIX. how does he do that when the offense doesn't even run through him??

Our PF should be pulling down 12 boards a game not shooting threes..I hate Mike D Antonio ..
You guys do not watch the games at all...Do you know how many put backs Miami had when Novak entered the game???No you don't ..You don't care because all u guys now care about is threes..Novak was hitting threes on one end and Miami was getting second chance points on the other..No one on this board sees this..I get questioned constantly if I watch the games..Stupid freaking Thread by Bonn

We have good rebounders, so who care if one person isn't great at it. Novak does something really well that fits this team, and that's shoot. With our current core, having players to spread the floor is what is needed most. He is one of the best shooters in the league. He takes the defending PF and brings him all the way out. It opens the whole floor for Lin, Melo, and Chandler. It makes them deadly.

Seriously, answer this..Do you care whether or not the other team get offensive rebounds and put back points?

hol, you are utterly and completely missing the whole entire context and meaning of this thread. Perhaps you should re-read the OP:

This is not to suggest Novak replaces Amare in the starting line, as you suggest here:

Nor does it suggest that our PF should be shooting 3's, as you suggest here:

Did you bother to read anything or respond in a way that makes sense?

I dont like the idea BUT
I see your point
Melo is a post player with offensive perimeter skills
Melo would not be worst than Amare in PF
Amare may get 2-3 boards more but its not like Amare is getting tons of his pts. in the paint.
Amare cannot go the other way though SF,
He seriously needs to get serious about what Knicks needs are before its too late

plugging in Novak vs Iman in the starting lineup while taking Amare and Fields makes sense to me.
Iman is a lock down defender in the making, he is missed on the court.
Westbrook, Rose, and Durant didn't have all star numbers or lead their teams anywhere, their rookie season.
However, they took off within the 2nd and 3rd years, especially with this shortened season, its hard to learn without practice.
BUT I has a high ceiling and is a hard worker off the court, I believe he will come back, next year, with a much better feel of the game, while being much more complete and improved.
Our current starting lineup just doesn't work, Amare's role is taken by TC. He is the much better defender, and much efficient.
TC when played with players that spread the floor, helped his game, and he did lots of work on both ends, during this LinSane streak.
Amare needs to go to the bench for the better of the team, I am not blaming him, but he just doesn't fit well with the other players.
These are the lineups I would tweak up, as I feel they mesh much better than Amare not fitting in.
David Lee would fit much better at PF than Amare at this point, while Amare could play the undersized Center better than Lee.
Lee has the ability to penetrate, finish with both hands, can hit the 12 footer, and can post up as well.

I think Melo is actually a better PF than SF.
At first thought, Melo at PF sounds pretty good. Then I started thinking about his perimeter game being inconsistent right now which means he would have to post up more. Melo will have a lot of problems in the post against true PFs. They will block his shots. Melo would need to hit that jumper consistently to make a move to PF successful.

You don't have to always play in the low post just because you're a PF. Look at Dirk's game. He can take PFs off the dribble from the perimeter. If his jumpshot is inconsistent, that would be one more reason to make him a PF rather than SF. The jumpshot is much more important for wing players than for PFs.
Knixkik wrote:crzymdups wrote:Novak is a PF, why do people keep saying he's a SF. Novak and Melo and Lin and Tyson have been on the floor a fair amount together.I think I'd want to see:
Lin
Shump
Melo
Novak
Chandler
Shump and Lin together have been really really good. Shump picks up the tough cover in the backcourt and creates transition opportunities for Lin.
I think Shump being in the Miami game changes it completely. and I think Shump would've held Deron Williams to way fewer open looks
Novak is a PF defensively and a SF on offense. Melo should be just the opposite in this system. They fit very well together, especially alongside a defensive presence like Chandler. I agree that this team with either Shump or Smith at SG (because they are our natural SGs) offers the most balanced lineup. Fields can fit as well, but i really want more shooting in the lineup.
Novak can't defend the likes of Josh Smith, Pau or Love. He will try to keep them in front of him, but he is not very quick and speed matters in defense.
Melo when he is on is dangerous as a SF or PF. He can post up and pass out of the post or score in the post, he can face up and shoot over smaller guys or drive on bigger guys. He has quick feet to tip back missed attempts, he can stretch the floor, can guard 3s or 4s for stretches.
He doesn't have to play PF to play like a PF. He can play SF and still make a killing in the post and act like a PF, you would have to have the PF be versatile enough to play the role of a SF to create space for him though which is why Novak comes in handy.
