Knicks · Amare: "Stay tuned. I turn it up after the All-Star break." (page 2)

I am happy to support him a 100% but I refuse to higher than that.
I am still going to watch him very very closely.

Interesting since i thought i read somewhere that he has been on vacation somewhere in the Caribean during the break and he looked pretty bad before his vacation.....so hopefully that report was false.

So what happens if he continues to suck and play shitty?

I mean, now, he HAS to bring it. Stay tuned. Stay tuned.

I love Amare but "Warriors" play defense.

some warriors have better lateral movement and athleticism than others.

i admire amar'e's effort, but not playing basketball didn't cause him to be two steps slower. getting older and injuring his back did that.

The timing and feel you have is built up over the off season with basketball related work, but STAT and Melo didn't really have their normal work on their game. Just lifting and running isn't the same as drills and fine tuning your game with a basketball trainer.

I don't know if STAT will actually regain his form, but I don't really believe he's done as some seem to think. Losing some explosion isn't the end of an NBA players career if they've got skills. STAT needs his shot back more than anything.

That absolutely needs to be step 1. Last year his 15-18 foot jumper was automatic. This year he's just throwing up bricks while the defenders get lay back and crowd the paint.

For STAT's sake, hope he finds his jumper soon. Jorts has been cleared for full practices and is just waiting to be that stretch 4 we need.

I hope so. GO Knicks

Lets see Amare heed his words and what he does tomorrow vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Last time I seen it CAVs got no PF whom is equal to NY or stud PFs

Last time I seen it Knicks perhaps have beaten CAVs 1-2 times in the last 3-4 yrs and some of this is the post Lebron era

We'll see if a PF can take advantage of a CAVs skilled but bad team whom has embarrassed the Knickerbockers nearly every time
CAVs vs Knicks occurs

We'll see tomorrow nite
its a good gage game for Amare to BACK UP HIS WORDS & BOASTs

No excuses!

ya for some reason post lebron the knicks still cant beat the cavs so hopefully tomorrow will be th beginning of a winning streak

Last season Amar'e even had great defensive moments. A motivated and active Amar'e wont be the liability he was on defense during the first half.

Hopefully he will go Beast-Mode in the 2nd half.

Moments? He had blocked shots which he does not have this year. Other than that, he was pretty putrid

Biggest reason for the poor first half was the subpar play of both Amare and Melo. Both guys shot roughly 4-5% less than their career FG% in the first half this year. Lets say they they play to their career averages in the 2nd half- over 20 shot attempts (roughly) thats at least more basket per game for each guy. That's 4 more PPG for the NY Knicks. 4 more ppg in the first half could've meant 3-4 more wins (we lost about 3 games by less than 4 pts and lost 2-3 more games by exactly 4). 4 more wins would've been something more like 20-13 in the first half....

Amare never was a good defender. It is pretty laughable to think he can get better after so many years in NBA.
As per his shooting it looks like he has some issues. Not sure if it is back or vision problems... but something is not right.

Well, not being an All-Star selection should have been an eye opener for him. Let's hope that the problems we see are correctable. His offensive fouls and turnovers are remainders from last season's play. We need Amar'e to play like he's a beast. My fondest memory was Amar'e running back down the court after throwing it down on two Celtics. He pulled back his jersey on the left side, signifying one thing, HEART. That's the guy I want to show up!

up until today amare has been pretty quiet so its nice to hear him admit that he has sucked and he wants to correct it. Like i said if Amare can get motivated and play at least near last years level then we will be in for a good run. i mean teams are looking to shut down lin which mean a healthy melo and a motivated amare should have a field day

How many times are we going to hear what Amare is gonna do or what he did?

He grew a inch and proclaimed himself a beast at the begining of the year. He bragged that he gained 20lbs of muscle....

Just shut up and play.

Knicks need him to rebound and defend. If he can do that the Knicks will be hard to beat. He's not doing that. Knicks don't need him scoring 30 pts a game. They need him to dominate the game from his position. Its not all about scoring

I agree about the rebounding and defending, but not holding out hope - he's never really done that.

He does need to score, and he needs to be efficient. If he's got an open mid range shot, he has to convert like he did last year. He doesn't need to score 30 every game- once in a while would be nice- but he needs to drop 20 with some regularity, and do it efficiently- 7 of 10 shooting and a bunch of FTs.

he probably never considered the effect of the 20lb's. The guy is human and a Knick who, led us back to respectability. Give him a bit of time. If anything this could be a blessing because many of us were worried about the beating such a schedule would be on his knees. The lack of playing time from all the fouls and other issues could lead him into a big second half.

He has to either shed the weight or adapt to it to be successful.

Really rooting for Amare. At this point it's safe to say he will not develop defensive IQ or dominate the boards like he can.

I want the guy from last season. That's what'll make his defensive lapses bearable

TripleThreat wrote:IMHO, I think STAT would be better off leading the 2nd unit for the Knicks.

He's not a good defender, he's not a legitimate Stretch 4 with an elite long range jumper/3 point shot and he has IMHO a subpar post game. Novak offers you the same limited defense, but at least he can shoot the three ball. Jeffries can offer you the same poor shooting, but with defense and some semblance of the "enforcer" element needed to protect Lin.

I think the Knicks would be better off with Jeffries in the starting lineup with a liberal mix of Novak. No, Jeffries can't really score but he can play tough defense and give Chandler a little more room to operate. Also he can give Chandler a little relief on defense. I think Jefferies doing the little things that STAT doesn't will really help. When you put Chandler, Melo and STAT together, you're asking Chandler to defend three positions at once.

On the 2nd unit, STAT can be the focal point of the offense and have some defenders like Shumpert play with him to hide some of his defensive weaknesses. Giving STAT 20-25 minutes will save his knees, and let him focus on giving 20 hard minutes rather than seeing him jog around for 38. I think the problem is waiting for Harrelson to return, so someone can back up Chandler besides Jeffries.

Lin is not really a run and shoot type of pointguard. He's not really set up to run and gun like the D'Antoni Suns. I think Baron Davis, if he can get healthy, can run that type of offense with STAT. At some point, the Knicks have to look past the contract. That team can hide one mediocre defender( Anthony ), I don't think it can hide two ( Anthony, STAT) in the starting lineup.

Stoudamire is the classic case of a MLB fourth outfielder taking too many starts and diluting the short but fierce burn quality that got him on the team in the first place. He should have spent some of his off seasons really developing the non athletic aspects of his game.

I think on the things MDA has always managed with Amare is his ego. Don't think Amare's ego could take coming off the bench this year. Time will tell.

So according to today's articles, Amar'e has lost 10 pounds, and is now down to 250lb (last year he was at 245lb). That's good to hear, hopefully it'll make a difference.

When Stoudemire reported to training camp, he was carrying 15 pounds of added muscle weight, and had hardly played for seven months.

“That’s the longest I’ve ever been away from the game of basketball,” he said.

As for the added weight slowing him down, Stoudemire said candidly: “It might have. It’s the biggest I’ve ever been.”

He added, “There’s no excuses for that. But I wanted to get stronger, I wanted to definitely heal my back.”

Over the past two months, Stoudemire has shed 10 pounds, to 250, as he works his way toward 245, his playing weight last season.

“It was all muscle, which looked good,” he said with a playful smile. “But to play my style of basketball and be a force full-court, fast-break guy that I always played like, maybe shed a few pounds.”
