Sounds like a fringe rotational bench player to me

He is too good to bring off the bench at this time. Bring JR and Fields off the bench and play the one that is playing better. JR might pick up that option if he keeps playing this way (bad on offense I mean, his D is great at times.)

Fields is back to poor play with Melo and Stat out there. It is pretty clear when Lin was leading the team and the ball was moving through him that Fields was playing on another level (still not shooting well.)

for me, I see no correlation between Fields bad play and Melo/Amare. Fields bad play is all onto himself.

fields was playing better but the last few games he looks lost again

Thats what average players do. Up and down inconsistant play.

Agreed. Fields strength is off the ball not on the ball. He is the quintisential garbage player in the molds of Cedric Ceballos. He works the baseline and is good for put-backs and back door cuts. Seems like he's put the ball on the floor a ton over the last few weeks and thats not really his game. Wonder is the signing of Smith has something to do with his mental approach to the game.

This is a no brainer

agree with this part 100%

Shump is an off guard and sees the floor much better than Fields. Fields I think will be awesome coming off the bench.

Guys it's not that deep. Fields is just not an NBA starting SG. Simple as that. I'd consider starting him at SF if we didn't have Melo. But we're giving up too much with him at SG.

Agreed. At least let's try bringing Fields off the bench for a game. See how it works.

He is not scaring the defense while JR and Shump are.

Is this a permanent solution? I know he is the "glue" guy but it ain't sticky no more!

Think its all overeaction here. Fields is over 47 pct fg his FT is down but a mistake not too stick with LF. His career fg pct is 49 and his FT pct is under 71 but he is all around playa who don't need the ball. He in a tiny slump but plays D. So what's the issue?

gunsnewing @ 3/4/2012 7:33 PM
can we please give Jorts Landrys minutes so we can grab a rebound? we are playing too many guards and Amare & Jeffries get over powered

Stats are for fantasy basketball

Melo is going to have to suggest to Dantoni to start Shumpert again

Rondo, the refs and Fields play after halftime. Just sucked the life out of the knicks and gave boston a 2nd wind.

and don't forget the constant switching on D as finding always got the ball to the taller player with the mismatch. Hence why Rondo had 20 assists and no adjustments were made

Yeah - Why can't we be like Miami and just Flash Hard and run back? Or, if we get caught on a bad switch, switch again with the closest big?

The Knicks look better on D this year but they gotta figure this out. The Top PG's seem to tear and pick us apart.

Thank you.

This is such a simple issue that really requires little analysis. Fields was playing out of position at SG out of necessity, because we really had no other options. We now have options who are better than Fields, and we need to make the obvious move already.

newyorknewyork wrote:Fields is a SF who is starts at SG while Smith is a SG who plays backup SF, makes no sense.

What also makes no sense today was the amount of time Fields had the ball in his hands even though he is playing with Melo, Amare, Lin and Chandler.

LOL, that is pretty obvious but I hadn't thought of it. I do wonder why we don't see more of JR at SG and Fields at SF?

Martin - I do think Fields is affected by lack of ball movement that sometimes happens with Stat and Melo out there. You are right though, he is just playing bad right now. JR is shooting poorly lately, as is Fields, though I'll say Fields has much better shot selection - JR should follow as it will help to get him out of this mini slump.

Regarding Rondo - Great PG but he doesn't blow me away with his passing. He does see the floor well and make crisp passes but he is passing to some great players (as are our PG's). Rondo is going to average around 5 or so more assists than most PGs though as he never shoots! I saw one jump shot from him last night. And, I really wonder if backing off of him is the best way to guard him. I would rather have Shump try to get up on him as when you back off him he can see the floor really well. Worth trying to see if Shump can stay in front of him.

JamesLin @ 3/5/2012 7:40 AM
So much for 10 man rotation, Mike Dee.. I really think Landry has problems with Mike D'Antoni's system. So many isolations for Melo that threw him off? I know he works well with Lin, but that's about it. Take Lin out and Landry plays as if he had only 1 arm.

btw, Rondo had 20 assists. Which part of Rondo today that didn't blow you away?
