Melo is far from a liability on defense. Melo isn't a situational scorer like Amare; he is far more versatile, and when his jumpshot gets going, we will see just how truly dangerous Melo is in any system. Melo is not a leader but that's why we have TC.

Amare has to be the worst defender in the league.

All that is good on paper or on Xbox, but Melo's head ain't right, and that makes everything you listed a total wash.

Small problem?! On defense? Tyson makes up for his defense to some degree, at the expense of clogging up the damn paint and making Amare far less effective on offense, as well as Lin and Melo.

BigDaddyG @ 3/7/2012 11:44 PM
Getting rid of STAT will not solve our problems. Getting rid of Melo will not solve our problems. Giving Lin free reign of the offense won't solve our problems. Getting our offensive "genius" of a coach to come up with something that resembles a game plan? That might help. George Karl has coached all sorts of players and he still get his team to play good offensively. Rick Adelman goes from team to team and he can come up with a strategy that matches the strengths of his players. ? I don't see that same level of flexibility from him.

Hard to argue with this.....

And Phil Jackson had his triangle and stuck with it like a donkey.

MDA has his style just like Phil and it works. He knows it wins, we just saw it win with Lin and a handful of role players, everyone knows MDA ball can win.

I don't blame him for not throwing his ph ilosophy out the window for a guy like Carmelo.

If the organization didn't want to run MDA ball, they shouldn't have hired MDA. I understand and fully support MDA's stance.

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 3/7/2012 11:48 PM
MDA was handed a team that he had absolutely no input in building. And now you want him to "work with you"?

No, I wouldn't work with that either. More than likely he is waiting to finish out his deal and move on; I don't think there will be any love lost between MDA and Dolan.

Amar'e is not the problem.

Until you get to the playoffs.

Yes, because in the playoffs the NBA stops being a basketball league and switches over to tag football, where Melo's unique talents give the Knicks a huge advantage.

Wow you really don't have a clue do you?

No, but you do. You are the guy that says MDA's Suns teams can never win it all, even though they were a cunt's hair away from the Finals and ran through the mid-2000s Western Conference like donkeys.

Almost doesn't count, but you may try again.

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 3/7/2012 11:50 PM
I think if MDA saw any future with the Knicks, he would be more willing to tweak his approach.

But the guy correctly sees that there is no future working with Dolan.

The Knicks is not a well run franchise from a basketball standpoint.

Amare has to be the worst defender in the league. He is an injury risk and he is only going to become less effective as time progresses. We can either move Amare now or wait until it's impossible to move him.

don't buy it at all.

You say that when Melo get's his jumpshot going... you can say that about Amare and the PnR.

+1

Now that Melo's back, his presence invites an ominous dark cloud over this team and its cast a shadow over Linsanity. Melo's a hall of famer but he's also a loser.

He stuck with the triangle but he was able to make adjustments. He adjusted the offense to make way for Michael Jordan; who was the Bulls best post player; Shaq and Kobe; and Gasol, Bynum and Kobe.

You can say what you want about Amar'e shortcomings, but the thing is that he is a good team player. Amar'e doesn't carry a big ego around, he is able to blend with the other guys like an amoeba.

And that's worth more than whatever "talent" advantage Melo might bring.

This is spot on. When the Knicks made there run against the Mavericks...it was STAT not MELO that was on the floor. Amare can blend...Melo cannot.

This is the main problem no one wants to except..but you obviously need tyson in there, but at the expense of amare shooting jumpers after jumpers..

HugeKnick4 @ 3/8/2012 12:06 AM
How about we trade Amare and Melo to the Nuggets for Galo. LOL!
NYKBocker @ 3/8/2012 12:21 AM
Melo and Stat for Dwight and TurkeyGlue
HugeKnick4 @ 3/8/2012 12:23 AM
Only problem with that scenario is Chandler would have to come off the bench. Cannot have Dwight and Chandler on floor at same time.

Amar'e is not the problem.

Amare is the problem

80% wins ? with Melo gone ?

You just want to see what we're all never seeing.
Melo has issue to work out but besides not being a defender he usually guards the BEST on other team
Whether its KOBE is LA, or LBJ of HEAT or Pierce of CELTs, lots of SF/SG top folks in league and
usually Melo holds his own even in slump shooting

What the devil has AMARE done ? eh ?
he guards NO ONE.

Amare doesnt even play vs top F/PFs or Centers in league. If he did he would be worse on opposing end
since only tier top F/PF are KGarnett (aging), Tim Duncan (aging) and Dirk Nowitski (getting there but still a star)

When Amare is playing or Trying to guard lesser unknown forwards of Wizards, Bucks, and whomever PF is an unknown
in NBA Amare cant even guard them but has hardest time putting up 10/20 (Boards /points) and you want to support
Amare as answer to cures of Knicks with Lin

Amare has done nothing this season but show he isnt a leader
isnt a killer nor has instincts

Is Too too soft
You want that in a player go ahead

Melo at least pushes back shoves back and has attitude for BIG shots and doesnt take any mess

When PG J.Lin is constantly getting hammered in lane and abused its only Big guy C/ Tyson Chandler who gets "T" up
and shows fire and guts to cover his teammates

Where ya getting that from Stoudemire ? he is soft
he isnt tough as people think. He doesnt do anything to cover for beatings his guards get like PG J.Lin
at least have your guys back

Entire team has Amare back and he's yet to do Squat to really WIN 1 game for Knicks
Melo carried NY in playoffs nearly avoided a sweep himself. Amare this yr ? just makes excuses just like his soft weak Coach MDA
Both of em' Marshmellow soft & we hate that!

Preach!

We may have to put up Melo just to be able to trade Amare. Between the two I would rather keep him. Amare is possibly the worst defender of any NBA starter. We need team players yes but we need team Players who can play.
