Knicks · How is it we suck when we have so much 'talent'? (page 1)

franco12 @ 3/8/2012 8:40 AM
The kool aid drinkers are going to explain that we suck because the squad hasn't had time to gel, we need chemistry, and a training camp.

And they will cite the Miami Heat, and their slow start last year.

Only I don't remember them looking as god awful pathetic as the Knicks have of late, with Melo & Stat seemingly healthy.

I didn't expect us to win either game, but as I remember this, anytime an MDA led Knick team has played against certain other teams - such as Sloan in Utah & Pop in San Antonio- we seem to get picked apart with very basic basketball, the kind of fundamental basketball they played in the 'olden days'.

If Stat can't play help defense, what coach has ever been there to hold him accountable his entire NBA career?

And I think this is why MDA needs to be fired, and we need a coach to come in, like a Hubie Brown, who will bench stars, get in their face, and demand players execute the basics.

Exactly...What the F$CK happened during that mini training camp after the All Star Break when everyone was healthy??? Did D'Antoni just yell "Let's Go!" for 2 hours then they all go home? Did Woodson not teach them how to switch properly, go over screens, and help on Pick and Rolls? No new plays or wrinkles. 3 Full practices days for nothing! All this losing is all coaching plain and simple...he cannot maximize his talent or execute a simple gameplan(Is there one?).

JrZyHuStLa @ 3/8/2012 9:03 AM
When a team that has tremendous talent and depth struggles, you have to consider if the coaching is there.

And from Mike Dantoni, there is none.

Uptown @ 3/8/2012 9:10 AM
We suck because we dont play any defense. Even when Miami stryggle to find offensive cohesion last year, they still won games because they played tremendous defense. Defensively, the team as a whole was bad, but Amare was pathetic. He kills me when he stands in the paint, waves at guards as they blow by him, then he turns around looking for teammates to help, when he's the help.

Regardless of how you slice it, our coach is an offensive coordinator who doesn't hold his players accountable for defensive lapses. I remember Gentry benched Stat for a game for not playing defense, but I doubt MDa will bench or reduce the mins of his stars for blowing defensive assignments. Just another reason why we might need to get another coach in here. A defensive oriented coach.

Get Phil Jackson here and he will turn the Knicks around. Just about the only coach out there that can turn the Knicks around. He holds his stars accountable night in and night out.

I like that Pringles stays loyal to his players, but not busting your ass on defense should be a ticket to be glued to the bench. He's been way too much of a player's coach when his teams have accomplished *nothing* here

100% Correct, they will actually have respect for his philosophy and championship experience (11 Rings to D'Antoni's none). Melo and Amare would thrive in the Triangle. Only player that would probably suffer initially is Lin, but unlike D'Antoni, Jackson will adapt to his personnel.

you know what... it's just unfortunate timing that both Tyson and JJ2 were hurt yesterday, I would have liked to see what would have happened if Amare and Melo didn't keep playing defense and if they would have lost minutes; that would have been telling for both players and coach.

But realistically in the Spurs game, who do you play? Jorts and Novak?

Also unfortunate Jordan isn't around

Personally, I would've started them. Probably guarantees a loss but I believe the alternative undermines accountability, which is not conducive to winning.

John Tortorella is coaching arguably the best team in the NHL in the New York Rangers. He sent the stud free agent acquisition to fourth line when he wasn't producing and busting his ass. There was no lockerroom pandemonium or lunacy. Richards got the message, proved himself, and is back on the top lines. If anything, it totally enhanced the lockerroom because everyone knows they have to grind and play hard and do all the blue collar shit our Knicks stars seems allergic too

Yea, but I don't think there exist Divas like Melo in the NHL. I could be wrong.

Phil Jackson won't coach the Knicks. He needs the best player in the league on his squad to win and Miami already has a coach.

Who says we suck? Ratings are up and they announced ticket price increase for next year?

Garden is packed every nite.

team is a qualified success!

We have Melo and the Nets suck!

The owner must be very happy.

For those that are unhappy, we'll fire the coach.

Then EVERYBODY IS HAPPY AND HAPPY PEOPLE BUY SEASON TICKETS, TEAM GEAR AND WATCH THE TEAM!

We'll go on all summer how the new coach is gonna change things up. Melo will say how great things will be and fans will
love it. Amare will say how dedicated he will be in the offseason to "get back". We will love it.

We'll see video of Shump and Lin taking 10,000 jumps shots a day. Shump will dominate summer league play.

Coach Woodson will talk of defense and maybe Dolan will let Grunwald talk. Grunny will get reupped because he is a good soldier for the MSG.

Im not sure what the problem really is?

Until the games are actually played.

Bonn1997 @ 3/9/2012 8:46 AM
We really don't have so much talent - people just look at players' PPG and how flashy they are, and infer talent. We have a very good starting PG, below average starting SG, average starting SF, below average production from PF, and very good C. That sounds like the description of a .500 team.
misterearl @ 3/9/2012 9:04 AM
The Knicks do not win without:

- building cohesion that sticks on the road.

- Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries.

- Patience (at least until the end of March) and trust

Period.

once again patience lol. I mean its ok teh first thousand times but now the "give them time"
excuse doesnt work
misterearl @ 3/9/2012 9:27 AM
No excuse JCrusher.

Before Lin, had Carmelo and Amar'e learned how to play together?

Basketball is a fragile game.

What would your solution be?

Basketball is fragile if the players you have are fragile. Look i never expected that we would be 8 10 games over .500 but three games below considering the talent and depth is not acceptable.
misterearl @ 3/9/2012 9:32 AM
JCrusher - The use of the word fragile is more about how player combinations, and effectiveness, can change with one man.

If the Knicks beat mediocre teams without Carmelo and Stoudemire, are you suggesting that is the best approach against the Celtics, Spurs and Mavs?

Or is it as simple as Jeremy Lin coming back to earth?

I ask respectfully once again, what would your solution be?

JCrusher @ 3/9/2012 9:35 AM

So you believe its Lin's fault that we are struggling and amare and melo are at no fault? The main problem is that when we run an uptempo offense we are more successful
misterearl @ 3/9/2012 9:46 AM
JCrusher - no where did I use the word fault. I said Lin cam back to earth. Understandable. Suddenly, he was the the one to stop.

Outside of turnover, the problem is not offense. The problem is defense.

I ask respectfully for a third time, what would your solution be?
