Knicks · Evil said this so well...... (page 1)

Nalod @ 3/9/2012 8:47 AM
It deserved its own thread..........

my big issue is that i don't feel like he's being asked to do something extraordinary.

This shouldn't take some major coaching breakthrough. Just DON'T POUND THE ROCK RELENTLESSLY.

Contrary to what some people here thing, "catch and shoot" is not some magical bball ability. It's a basic skill.

If you catch the ball, and the play is not there, move it and move yourself, and the ball will make it's way back to you if it's the right play.

I don't know why i feel like it's so obvious to me that they are not executing. how many different ways can you tell someone to stop doing something they've been doing forever.

We don't need a coach to cater to Melo's habitual isolation. we need Melo to recognize that his ISO skills are better utilized in key situations and not as a first option.

eViL @ 3/9/2012 8:51 AM
thanks Nalod. i should add that "catch and drive" would also be nice. anything but "catch and dribble in one place."
SupremeCommander @ 3/9/2012 9:03 AM
when Malo (1) catches-and-shoots, (2) posts up, and (3) goes to the rim hard, he is sublime. When he goes into dribble, dribble, CHUCK!! mode he leaves a lot to be desired. But that's something this entire team suffers from, not just Melo
holfresh @ 3/9/2012 9:20 AM
Something interesting I saw in the Spurs game...Spur run the pick and roll from the top of the key like we do and also in the low nad high post with Duncan..Why are we not useing Melo to run the P&R where he catches his high ISO and in the low post...Why are we giving defenses one look where Lin gets trapped every time at the top of the key and do it again and again...Melo is a skilled passer...SA run the pick and roll from any spot on the court with various players...Why are we locked into Lin on top of the key...

Ya its a little weird. I dont blame melo for every little thing because amare has been awful this year too. But there are 3 or 4 guy on this board who become very nasty if you say anything critical about their precious melo even though we have a better record without the guy lol

Melo clearly has to step it up, but the team won't be better off starting Anthony Parker either. Thre's a lot of pieces that have to fit here. I think the coach needs to show some flex with the design. I think Melo and Amar'e need to play only if the make defense a priority. But you say that, the hissy fits that those who see this in black-and-white throw are unreal

Vmart @ 3/9/2012 9:55 AM
Did anyone watch the SA game Melo didn't hold the ball for more than 5 sec. He scored In a variety of ways. He did everything that Evil wanted. You want him running around but that isn't MDA system. In the MDA system if you run around you actually get in the way just ask Fields MDA asked him to stop getting in the way.

Melo has definitely had an up and down year. More down recently, than up. However, most of these posts about Melo seem to be more emotional and personal than they are logical. You weren't a member when the Melo trade went down. The same guys that hated the intial trade of Gallo for Melo, and talked of never rooting for this team again, or becoming Nuggets fans, and starting KNuggets threads, etc, are the same ones that seem to think Melo is the alpha and omega of all of our problems. Is he part of the problem? Absolutely, but what about the other parts?

I know Lin has had a terrific 2 week run, but are we not allowed to mention that he's been getting torched on defense?

Sean Elliot, the color comentator for the Spurs called Amare a Mannequin on defense and suggested that the Spurs run pick and roll at Amare everytime down because he doesn't help defend. Is that Melo's fault too?

Our coach makes zero adjustments defensively, and holds no-one accountable, yet its all Melo's fault. We have posts on this board that suggests if we simply move Melo, all problems solved. Thats ridiculous with all the other problems we have on this team. Posts like that sound personal to me.

For the final time, Uptown, when you demand a trade that costs the Knicks 25 players, when you are earning the maximum dollars possible in the NBA league, YOU HAVE MORE ON YOUR SHOULDERS THAN LIN WHO IS MAKING 5$ per hour!

He is the alpha and omega of ALL THE PROBLEMS because HE PUT HIMSELF in that position!!!!

I understand the melo fans because they want to protect their guy so i really do understand. But you are right when you are making so much money and the knciks gave up so many assets you are gonna have pressure. Look at lebron he had nobody in cleveland yet he took them to teh finals one year and they were in the playoffs. melo has much more help and he hasn't figured it out which i hope he does. Im not a melo fan but i want him to succeed because that means the knicks will succeed

Melo hasn’t had and up and down year, he has had a down year period on offence and defense. That’s why is very difficult to me to blame MDA only, the success of the coaches mostly depends on the success of their best players.

I agree some people do make it personal i dont. I try to be fair. I never said its all melo's fault. I have been critical of amare and even lin. The difference is that amare and melo are considered the stars so the blame does ten dot fall on them and im sorry but it should. I understand melo is your fevoirte player but you shouldnt take it so personally if someone make an honest argument about something he didnt do right

Dude, I'm a Knick fan (Period). Stop saying Melo is my favorite player, its just that its way too easy and lazy in my opinion to point-out the top money-maker on the team as being the sole reason for our struggles.

this is basketball not ballet lol. I mean if you are considered the top guy you have to take teh good and the bad like lebron did like kobe did. Like I said melo isn't the onluy problem but you cant call it a coincidence that this team looked better when he was hurt. Im not saying he should be benched but he needs to stop pouting and just give more effort. if he would just give more effort with his talent he could be a MVP candidate
