Knicks · Why does JLin take more shots than Amare nightly???? (page 3)

" If you watched the game, you would see that Stat is being smart and moving the ball as he can't get by his man and is being more careful shooting the ball. That is a smart but a bit passive as well. Perhaps he is just saving his energy for the defensive end.

I don't want Lin taking so many shots, but last nights game was skewed. First, Lin is getting more shots as Stat is not taking so many, really. Second, Lin was clearly trying to get something going and being aggressive in particular cause Stat and Melo (after the 1st qtr) weren't doing much. Third, he played the fourth quarter with Stat and Melo out, so right there was a part of it. Normally he'd be passing anyway, but the Sixers really got up on him (but didn't double as much) so Lin could usually get by his man. But didn't finish well at all, even when he wasn't fouled.

Now, in a typical game if Stat and Melo are both on (should that ever happen again ), you can be sure he will be passing more and also get a few drives in to keep defenses honest.

What has happened to Amare's jumper from the top of the key?
Last season, he was almost automatic from there. Now teams are
almost daring him to shoot it. He decides to put it on the floor
a lot this year which usually ends in a tunover & him screaming
bloody murder for a foul.

have you seen the quality of shots lin gets vs the quality of shots amar'e gets?

this is a really silly question.

Sad but so true. Very strange.

its funny you get mad when people bash melo yet you seem to do tha same thing. I'll make it simple. melo lin and amare have all sucked recently. thats a fair answer even if you happen to be a favorite of one

the difference two of those get paid 20 mill a year. and amare needs to be benched and not get more shots.

5-18? C'mon.

good point man 5-18 is horrible

Some perspective as we can't get on a guy for a few bad games.
Lin: Last 10 games - 41%, 17.5 ppg, 8.4 assists, 4 rebounds, 2.7 steals, (Sorry but TO's isn't listed, but I imagine are in the 5 range). Salary - Less than 1 million
Melo: Last 10 games - 41%, 18.8 ppg, 2.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds, .7 stls, Salary 20 million
Amare: Last 10 games - 49%, 15.8 ppg, .7 assists, 7.8 rebounds, .5 stls, Salary 20 million

Now, I am not doing this to come down on Melo or Stat, but Lin is doing fine (Great for a rookie!)

Next time Amare gets his shot blocked by a point guard ask yourself why anyone in their right mind would get him the ball?

Of course hes doing fine! He's doing great!!

But, can we not comment on his shortcomings as fans?

That is very much what I am talking about with Amare deferring - that lost jumper. But, it has noticeably been getting better. So I really do think that will come around. People may lose their athleticism but shooting generally is not lost. I am actually not very worried about Stat there.

So, Amare will probably start taking more of those shots and that means Lin will probably take less shots. Lin is a very smart pg, we don't have to worry about him not adjusting.

Melo is also slowly starting to come around. We played some great teams pretty good but not for 4 quarters. You can see we are close to either turning a corner or having a complete melt down. It is for the team and us to decide. I say us cause I have a quantum physics sort of approach. Let's be confident tonight against the Bulls and just like fans create good or bad energy in a stadium, let's do it remotely! I'm there.

By all means, I have been doing the same. But nitpicking and arguing over words gets us no where. We all know he had a bad game. The Shooting % didn't at all worry me, it was seeing his legs and mind again exhausted. It was seeing TERRIBLY thrown passes that were so un Lin like (Say that last part really fast again and again.) I think we saw a combination of fatigue and, for lack of a better word, sadness and frustration, in the kids game. It is up to our stars to help right the ship. But Lin has great constitution and if we can make it into the playoffs after playing such a tough stretch, we will be ok. We probably don't beat the bulls in a 7 game series, anything is possible in a 5, and you never know. Really, you never know. We do have talent, it just has to come together.

And, as Melo and Stats game improves (and there are signs of that) that just means other teams will not be able to continue paying so much attention to Lin. The balance will swing and open things up incredibly for everyone.

I don't understand how Lin is sucking according to you. He is still contributing night after night and he's also the one player that is being paid peanuts to do what he does out there compare to the two overpaid clowns.

previous compensation has literally nothing to do with current performance and a lot to do with previous performance. so that shouldn't be factored into the discussion of current performance.

Lin should get some wiggle room, considering he's basically a rookie. that said, he shouldn't be immune from criticism, especially after yesterday's performance. he was awful yesterday

No, but Lin is still contributing whereas, if you had nobody else but BD and Mike Bibby or Douglas to go by, you wouldn't be seeing the kind of number Lin's putting up.

There is no riding off of yesterday's contribution. How can you even say that? Lin puts up the exact same kind of numbers/performance he was doing when Knicks went on a 7 game winning streak except this time, Knicks aren't winning.

I didn't say that

5-18 is bad but not atrocious.

What makes the stat (no pun intended) less relevant is when his head gets nearly taken off in the process of missing and he goes to the free throw line - that ish still counts as a missed fg attempt. So it doesn't carry that much weight.
