Knicks · if Melo/Stat are superstars, what is... (page 1)

...D Rose? The guy is an elite athlete. His handle is absolutely sick, ball on a string. His ability to stop and start and shake his defender is amazing. Fast? The man is a blur. And he plays both ends.

And he's a leader. Invaluable.

I mentioned a few times in the game thread that Rose is the closest thing to Jordan since Jordan.

The guy is a beast.

Rose deserves to be called a SUPERSTAR.

I don't think he's MJ. I think he's Allen Iverson with size and strength.

Vmart @ 3/13/2012 9:49 AM
Rose has a role on his team. Melo and Amare don't have a role on the Knicks.

He's sick. The thing that impressed me most is that he's a fighter.

The guy battles you! He battles on the court, a true Warrior. He'll go into the scruff and he'll come out with the rebound, then he'll put it up; several times last night this popped out.

That's the factor that our guys don't have, and why they're not deserving of the Label.

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 3/13/2012 9:54 AM
Relentless, is the word I would use to describe him. He's relentless, and he backs this up with raw balls physicality and ill-nasty-dope-fresh skills.

He shot 12-29.

D. Rose is a superstar. that team is Rose and a bunch of role players—and they the best record in the league. what does that tell ya?
Stat and Melo are high paid street ballers.

You got it wrong. You have a coach that is trying to reduce the star players into role players. You have role players that are not looking for thier star players. You got role players with a green light to jack up shots on the whim.

HugeKnick4 @ 3/13/2012 10:02 AM
Stat and Melo are not Superstars...they are Stars. Superstars excel at most facets of the game...not just one or two.

Oh yea...what's it called again? Equal Opportunity System. Where the scrubs get to chuck also

fishmike @ 3/13/2012 10:05 AM
and his team wins. And keeps winning. What are the Knicks? 10-21 with Melo this year? Keep blaming the coach. Lets appease the superstar whos never won anything. He's advanced in the playoffs one year, yet people here continue to treat Melo as the golden goose. Those arent eggs he's laying, just brickes.

Roles? We are talking roles?

When Don Nelson tried to make Anthony Mason point forward and not run the offense through the Ewing the Knicks still had a winning record. What we are seeing from this group of players no heart. Whats ever worse is Amare seems to defer to Melo on this team and he's not even the fighter he was last year.

Its too bad, I had high hopes for Melo but it seems he would prefer to have MDA fired and a Melo yes-man put in place. Funny the last guy like that was Karl. Since Melo left his old coach has trashed him calling him selfish and THAT team continues to have a winning record.

Lets fire MDA as its clear he cant properly motivate Melo and isnt catering to him and his 40% shooting.

yeah that's called team basketball. role players not looking for their stars who are playing below their averages? am i missing something?

Nalod @ 3/13/2012 10:15 AM

If Amare was "whole", PHX would have resigned him to what ever he wanted.

Knicks paid above his worth. So he is not a "100million dollar man" and we should not expect him.

Melo had a love/hate in denver. He clearly frustrated his coach. Being a "Star" (we give celebrity to people like Snooki and paris hilton also) he made the team money.

What might be the great ruse of all time was Melo wanted to leave, but Denver despite the reports might have been all too happy to see him leave as he was wearing out his welcome and create a win-win. Melo gets his money and his city, Denver gets value in return.

Denver created a market for Melo and Dolan took the bait.

It seems if either Dice, Marbury, Crawford, H20, Z-Dumb and now our two stars we are usually over paying in some form or another. Real guys like CP3, Deron, and Dwight could have been ours but our owner loses his bodily functions to get a "name" here with little concern to fit and ball style, let alone if they are true producers.

So really since Isiah left, how much have things changed?

Malcontents now are taking up bench space and pouting and we have another great coach we seemed to have destroyed.

MDA is a lot like Larry Brown. They don't get their players to play together but they have in other carnations in their careers. They both do better with less celebrity players.

Crawford an Marbury killed Larry (ball style) and Melo killed LInsanity.

Having "Thibs" here would have been a disaster. Our "stars" don't play defense with consistancey.

We are not talking enough about the defense when Amare and melo were both out. It was far more intense.

To a lessor degree we also need to recognize the importance of JJ's not playing and Chandlers wrist worsening as contributers also.

There are always "reasons".

We are in no position to trade out Melo. The best way to satisfy the fan is to throw the coach under the bus. Someone has to be "blamed".

10 years:

JVG: the smart one, he "Walked"!

Chaney: No stars but team played hard while we rebuilt our assets.

Lenny: had a reasonable sane Marbury but lost his team quick.

Herb: Had an audition but had the same group of malcontents

Larry: Wrong coach, wrong roster with the wrong GM

Isiah: Made to go into the fray and deal with it. Biggest payroll ever with epic cap tax consequences.

MDA: Two years of malcontents, salary expirings and some yoot, year three add amare to yoot and your .500 maybe better without trade hangover.
Melo infusion depletes depth but makes playoffs. NO chance with worn out players and depleted depth. This season, we know all about it.

Whats next? Start trading our yoot and make one final push with ??? at the helm? Does MDA even want to return? Im sure most fans don't want him back. Who is the GM? Grunwald? Mark Warkentein? The guy who got Melo and JR?

crzymdups @ 3/13/2012 10:20 AM
DRose is Marbury if Marbury hadn't been crazy and hadn't been surrounded by groupies telling him he was the man.

He's a little more explosive, but he's all serious and all about winning. The kid is super impressive, a next level athlete.

DRose is a superstar. To put Melo or Amar'e in his class is insult, unfortunately.

NBA Elite goes:

1) Lebron
2) Rose
3) Kobe
4) Durant

and there's a big drop off after that.

OasisBU @ 3/13/2012 10:22 AM
I think at this point Melo and Stat have proven that they are not superstars. They are above average/elite players but definitely not superstars.

This doesn't mean they aren't good players, but a superstar plays both offense and defense and has the ability to impose their will on the game and get the W. I do not see that in either of these guys unfortunately.

What games are you watching? MDA put the ball in Melo’s hand for the first half of the season and lost a bunch of games as a result, because of that he reverted to his point guard oriented style.

Bonn1997 @ 3/13/2012 11:01 AM
Melo and Amare are talented players misperceived as superstars
MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 3/13/2012 11:02 AM
I hate it when they be misperceivin'.
