Knicks · Trade Carmelo 2012 (page 2)

skeng @ 3/14/2012 7:43 AM
Oh well, just for gags.

3 team wheelin' n dealin'

1st trade - Knicks, Magic and Nets. Although Nets would do anything to prevent this from happening, Melo might be enticing to them as a plan B for Deron.

Knicks incoming:
DH
Deron
Turk
Q Rich/Duhon

Nets incoming:
Melo
TD

Orl incoming:
Tyson
Stat
Fields.

or a 2nd trade

Knicks incoming:
DH
Rhondo
Turk
Jermaine O'neill

Boston incoming:
STAT
Landry
TD (maybe switch out with Shump for better balance and incentive for Boston)
whatever pick

Orlando incoming:
Tyson
Melo

Lin could be added to whichever trade with ease, since I couldn't see him outplaying Rhondo or Deron.

Uptown @ 3/14/2012 7:44 AM
BTW, a 121W's and 167L's on the last year of your deal does not merit an organization trading a player for you. It's not happening. Like it or not, its a players league and MDA doesn't have a crutch to stand on. Not saying its right but coaches get fired because of players or system conflicts all the time, Paul Westhead was fired because g=his system didn't fit Magic. Its happened before.

GoNyGoNyGo wrote:Melo is a selfish player. If true, the ESPN article proves it as does today NY POST. He has the ability to run the offense the right way, he chooses not to. He does not help Lin, he turns his back on him. This is a team CANCER. Get rid of it before it spreads too far. They do not need Melo and they do not need Davis, trade them both to Phoenix for Nash and Frye or Dudley. It really doesn't matter who comes back. It is addition by subtraction.

MDA has to be pissed. He dealt with all the BS for 2 years then gets STAT and a team that he likes and is winning! Then they give him another Marbury! If I were him, I would be dreading the day, I turned down Chicago. He is not without blame here but really, the man has been given a very difficult player to deal with.

Oh and Gallo wins another one for Denver last night....TEAM BALL in Denver.

Defense and Dirk ball won the 'chip' last year.

SteveSmith @ 3/14/2012 7:51 AM
Nash & Frye would be nice, but I doubt thats working capwise. How about the ultimate addition by subtraction move: Rashard Lewis strait up for Melo. Grab a pick or two while your at it and never look back!
SteveSmith @ 3/14/2012 7:57 AM
Uptown wrote:Defense and Dirk ball won the 'chip' last year.

This is all true. But: I dont buy that you need Melo to win in the playoffs. Didnt STAT lead the league in 4th quarter points last year? Didnt Lin demonstrate he can take over games and hit the big shots? There you have the guy that avoids getting to the last shot, and if it happens, you have the guy who can hit it.

I know STAT has not played like last year yet. And I know Lin is unproven on a long term sample size. But as of now, we wont even reach the playoffs for Melo to win games in it!

Thanks for another surface answer....Thanks for neglecting that pretty much every series the Nugs lost they didn't have homecourt advantage (with the exception of 1, I believe) and lost to the Spurs and Lakers.

I'm not even the biggest Melo fan, just trying to fair in these one-sided arguments. Its not so much that we need Melo, per se to win a chip, but this 'equal opportunity' offense which neglects the hot hand unless your the pg just isn't championship quality IMO.

HugeKnick4 @ 3/14/2012 8:11 AM
Enough of the crap that MDA doesn't run a DEFENSIVE system. We have a defensive coach who is supposed to be an expert for that. The Knick D was in the top half of the league for most of the year and peformed when certain players were not on the floor. It is that simple.

your calling my answer "surface" but MDA's offense neglects the hot hand? Thats good stuff dude.

So your making excuses for Melo. Poor Melo doesnt get home court. Poor Melo has to play big bad Lakers and Spurs. Funny, when Sun's lose to those same teams its because MDA's system cant win in the playoffs. When people stop apologizing for this player you will realize he's just not that great.

This team has played great when he's off the floor. Maybe the team has lost Melo? You trade this guy the Knicks go on a winning streak day one. Maybe we get lucky and he tears an ACL. Still has trade value but we dont have to deal with his BS and can salvage a season

Why does that bail out Carmelo? It's not like it was bad luck that they didn't have home-court. They didn't have home-court because they didn't play as well as other teams during the regular season. They didn't win in the playoffs because they didn't play as well as other teams. Combining your post and Fish's, all we can say is that whether it's the regular season or the playoffs, Melo's teams don't play as well as the top teams do.

I see your point about the offense but the facts are that the MDA system with a PG that can run it and shooters around, can win 60 games. Also if not the fight vs SA, they would have won that series and been in the finals. What has MELO and his game done?

PJax runs his system too. The difference with him is that is that MJ, Kobe and Shaq bought into it. I actually think his triangle would be good for Melo. So when MDA gets fired and PJax gets hired, NY will be better. However, Melo will still be selfish Melo.

Also, yes Dirkball was crazy and the Defense was the reason but when has Melo shown he can be Dirk? Dirk has a ring, Melo has a soft belly.

crzymdups @ 3/14/2012 8:23 AM
all these hatchet job articles this morning are pretty obviously from CAA - melo's agency - Berman and Chris Broussard always run whatever CAA tells them to.

it's pretty clear the message to dolan from CAA/melo is: fire MDA and Grunwald (read the berman piece, it is calling for BOTH their heads) or trade melo.

trade this cancer. he is undermining his bosses. move on. trade him for a loss. whatever.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/so...

Anthony was unavailable for comment Tuesday as the Knicks did not practice. It is against NBA rules to publicly state a desire to be traded.

According to the source, Grunwald has had just one conversation with Anthony since he became GM. And D’Antoni rarely talks to Anthony after games, especially since Anthony’s return from a groin injury. The Knicks have lost 8 of 10 games since then to fall to 18-24 and out of playoff position.

Anthony is not close to owner James Dolan the way Amar’e Stoudemire is. The source said Anthony gets along best with assistant GM Allan Houston, who eventually could succeed Grunwald.

“He knows Glen doesn’t like him,’’ the source said.

It would seem unlikely — and ill-advised — for the Knicks to pull off a trade for Anthony on such short notice before Thursday’s deadline.

Though Stoudemire lobbied for the Knicks to trade for Anthony, the pair’s friendship has not flourished.

How freaking SAD! At the time, if he really wanted to be a Knick, all he had to do was just play out the season for Denver or whoever they traded him too. Then come to NY as a FA. NY would have had all the pieces still in tact. But no, he wanted his money and was willing to go anywhere (NJ!!!) so long as he got his. WARNING SIGNS!!!! Dolan you are an idiot for not listening to Walsh!

Walsh was probably hoping he would go to NJ, so he could get Deron!

Even with Gallo, Wilson, Moz and no Wilson (dont think we could have gotten both, him and Melo) this would not have worked. Mike and Melo are not compatible. And since Melo has Dolan and 4 more years, while Mike has the rest of the team and only the rest of the year, its clear that one has to go. Guess who it will be

I would have agreed with you 100% except I think Lin may have changed that. Lin has sold out more games than Melo. That kid is a cash cow so the business behind getting Melo is a bit moot at this point.

It depends on what Dolan wants and where he places blame. If he blames MDA for not making it work then obviously he's gone, but if he realized Melo is the problem maybe (fingers crossed) he gets purged.

How about Luol Deng and Rip Hamilton? Lots of reasonable deals out there... Josh Smith and Marvin Williams might be another

Just imagine if we got Deron last year and just picked up Tyson this year! HOLY CRAP....I get depressed just thinking about it. Dolan can kick rocks and he needs to defriend Isaiah off his facebook account.

Thats our hope, isnt it? That Dolan is out for the money, and the money alone.

He had his ticket raise due to Melo, now he has the potential to get sustainable cash flow due to Linsanity. But he probably wont get it when he erases MDA from the equasion, because lets be real: Lin is a nice player, but with another system/coach hes exactly that. A nice player. With MDA he could become a superstar and the global icon all of Asia and probably half of the rest of the world would spend money for.

thats the overall problem and for the life of me, why do all these so-called smartest/knowledgeable NY fans continue to talk about offense when defense wins 'chips.' Regardless of what you think about the offense, how sloppy its looked, etc, we've scored about 101 per since Melo's return. Thats more than enough to win in the current NBA. Ever watch a Bulls game and how pathetic they look on offense at times? Defense will win games when the offense is struggling. We essentially have an offensive coordinator on out sidelines.
