Damn!! We were so damn close!

This move needed to be made last offseason or this offseason. It sounds like D'Antoni negotiated and was able to get paid for the rest of his contract. I don't know how long the negotiating was going on but management not bringing in a point guard and bringing in Mike Woodson last offseason indicated to me that they were ready to move on but would give D'Antoni a chance to work with what was on the team.
Thanks MDA. I wish you the best wherever you go. You made your share of mistakes but I appreciate everything you did to try to turn this joke of a franchise around.

MAybe you are right but 1999 was close.
Goodbye..you will not be missed by me. Besides Linsanity your teams never overachieved or out worked other teams. Lets get a coach in here that practices hard and gets his team to play hard from jump for 48 minutes ala Doug Collins. That roster is the same roster that underachieved with a different coach. Coaches matter. Don't care what anyone says.
Where is MDA going to go now? Is he going back to coach Italy basketball?

Why is it so hard for other people to see this?

So are we to expect that STAT and Melo will now defend and board harder under Woodson? Why did the team defend at a high level minus those guys? Why do our defensive stats go down with Melo on the floor? It's not just about a coach yelling or demanding things. This is a fallacy. This team has a lot of issues and they don't all get solved with a coaching change. Tho i'd be happy if it did.

Well hopefully the next coach (2012/2013) knows when to play guys for certain situations. We all know stat sucks at defense and is average at best in rebounding but Melo was defending and boarding when he believed in the coach. We shall see. None of us know if it was a D'Antoni problem or a Melo/Stat problem til we can compare.
I just know watching the games I saw a lot of flaws in D'Antoni's Coaching style and in game adjustments or lack there of one.
Add to that he's had the same issues with all his rosters even before Amare they had defensive issues and rebounding issues.

It's not like D'Antoni preached defense anyways, there's a reason they brought in Woodson. Not saying the results will be significantly better, but under Woodson in can't get worse.

It seemed to get a lot worse with him here recently anyway. What's the real diff now?

Coaches do matter, but the responsibility for the bad performance can't be placed solely on MDA. The accountability for this season needs to be shared by every single player on the team including the coaching staff.
As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. Coaching can only go so far if the players are not willing to buy in and play as a team and implement the philosophy being taught. You can't make anyone do anything they are unwilling to do without the proper authority and making it known there is something to be lost. I've done quite a bit of teaching so I know how this works. MDA clearly had no authority regarding the personnel and to what extent he could reward or punish (benching) his players.
Frankly, MDA leaving will do nothing to fix this situation, but I respect both him and Donnie for leaving on their own terms. I wouldn't want to remain in a situation where it was my job lead a group of people if my efforts and authority were constantly being undermined. You end up with none of the respect and most of the blame. AND THANK YOU COACH MIKE FOR NOT AIRING OUT EVERY DAMN BIT OF DISCONTENT, AND NOT FALLING INTO THE TRAPS THE REPORTERS SET. THANK YOU FOR NOT ADDING TO THE DRAMA. Larry Brown did more than enough of that bs.
This year and last we finally had a chance to see some exciting ball in NY if only in spurts due to personnel roulette/lockouts etc. but those short streaks were fun while the lasted, if not a glimpse of what could have been if all the pieces had fallen in place.
Good luck Mike! I hope you find a position on a team that's willing to play your game, where you'll be allowed to be a Coach without the meddling.

Take a look at the first half effort tonight...where was that during the losing streak?
Dantoni's biggest flaw...Encouraging Fields, jeffries, td, walker, Jorts to keep shooting and alienating Amare & Melo!

He's my boy, but remember the Shumpert chucking 20 shots against Memphis game. A rookie "point guard" out-shooting Amare and Melo without so much as a word from D'Antoni. D'Anton's a players coach, an enabler basically, just couldn't say No to him...

um, you mean the game melo barely played in because of injury? i would hope shumpert took more shots than him.

If you watched that game..they weren't 20 shots within the flow of the offense..he was forcing bad shot after bad shot.

Nah, Melo and Amare both played 20 minutes, they just got blown out to kingdom come so they sat, but during the time the starters played, Shumpert had 15 shots in the first half alone. No intervention or anything by MDA. Well a little, because Shumps only had 5 shots in the 2nd half LOL.

Funny how people forget that when Douglass was played before being sent to exile, he was leading the league in 3 point attempts at a whopping 26 percent.
PHILOSOPHY!
Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot Just shoot
Said in every huddle.

Was that the game that Reggie Miller was joking that he would have to ice his arm? Some speculated that that was the game that kept Shump out of the rookie all star game.
