i believe this. and think it would have been a smart trade.
people here were miserable when they saw the nets got DWill - said we should have offered the Melo package for DWill instead. etc.
the beat goes on.
again - Melo is Dolan's prize posession - he's not going anywhere.
If they were to trade for D-Will, Lin's confidence would be completely shot.
nixluva wrote:Does anyone not agree that DWill is better than Melo??? I mean if we're making that trade aren't we getting the better player? If it's true then I think MDA would've been right and Dolan wrong.
it's close and I don't think it matters. Obviously Williams and Amar'e would've given Pringles exactly what he wanted/needed to succeed though
that wouldn't be the knicks way. We haven't completely ruined Melo's trade value yet. First we need to further de-value him as a trade asset...then we try and trade him...got it
nixluva wrote:How do we even know this is true? MDA isn't a GM and why would he even be involved in such a transaction unless it was broached by someone else like Grunwald? In any event the idea that MDA was somehow down on Lin cuz he would be willing to bring in Deron is crazy!!! Lin is still a developing player and he's not considered to be on the level of D. Will anyway. Why not have D. Will and have Lin off the bench? He could also play Lin and D. Will together like he did with Baron and Lin, only it would probably work better.
I don't know anything about the validity of this but D-Will is a huge upgrade over almost any guard in the league. I did hear Bucher talking about D'Antoni not feeling backed by management. I only caught a couple of seconds and then got a phone call so if I am wrong please correct this.
Dwil is a big dude and can be the 2. Fields the 3.
MDA didn't want melo. Melobury wins.
Dolan likely figured MDA had his way with Marbles but not going that route with Melo.

Marbury had his way with the vaseline first. And he also had his court appearance with the whole get in the truck thing, which Dolan couldn't have been a huge fan of.
I'm prepared for the Melo era to be at least as bad as the Marbury era at this point.
Yes but at least it shows MDA was flexible. That idiot SASMith is on the radio blaming MDA's love affair with Lin as the reason for the KNicks problems. Instead of blaming the real culprit.

I want to punch Stephen A in the face. I'd really love to know the last time the Knicks beat the Lakers at the Garden.

no. your assumptions are off.
1) It could be about Melo being off team
2) Dwill is a humongous upgrade over Lin
I agree he's a huge upgrade. And I like Lin. But it proves a couple things. D'Antoni needs an all-world PG for success and can't do it with an otherwise very talented team. And it also proves that even Mike didn't believe in Linsanity. If he did he should've fought for his job and "system" and benched Melo.
it doesn't prove anything.
It's proves that MDA wanted Melo for DWill.
I disagree. It speaks volumes of what he needs to suceed as a coach and his glaring shortcomings as a coach.
wanting DWill over Lin speaks volumes? Every coach in the freaking NBA would want DWill over Lin. It speaks volumes about your logic.
Here's my logic:
D'Antoni needs a PG for his system to work. Fine. D'Antoni had Lin, who proved he could play at a high level even though he has plenty to work on. Aside from Lin you have a roster full of All Star's including Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo Anthony has not bought into the system. Rather than figure out a way to make your young PG and All Stars work together, he tried to get rid of the star player he was at odd's with while alienating the young PG who almost saved his job. Why? Because he needs one of the best PG's on the planet to make this system work and can't coach someone up and make an example of them if they don't buy in.
Seems like a good guy, but he is a weak coach.
Why not condemn the NBA, where in most cases, the star players have more power than coaches? Lin is a nice player, but he does not have the rep and respect to put Melo in his place, which is something Williams could probably do if on this team. Dolan's foolish trade for Anthony was a signal to everyone in the organization that the team was Dolan's, and not Walsh's or MDA's. As Dolan's boy, the guy the Knicks gave up the farm for, Anthony was quite aware of the power he had.
You think George Karl (He must be a weak coach, too.) doesn't have a big smile on his face. He probably would have taken less back to get rid of Anthony. We should have known that MDA and Anthony could not co-exist on the same team- Karl's Nuggets are basically playing a similar system to MDA from what I can see, and Anthony did not fit over there either. Should we have expected anything else other than what we have seen since Anthony came here- a guy who cannot play the team game or play consistent D?
Anthony came into the season out of shape from the start, and it is easy to see that his physical ability is in decline (How many of his shots are being blocked?) A guy like James works on his game while Anthony comes into the season looking like he had done nothing to work on his body or his game.
Last year I was against the trade- thinking we could pick Anthony up in free agency. Now I am of the opinion that we should not have made the trade or even pursued him as a FA. Anthony will win a few games and put up some numbers, but as long as he is our #1 star, the Knicks are not winning anything of significance.

I've never met anyone that likes Stephen A. The guy is an obnoxious imbecile. No idea how or why ESPN brought him back.
As far as Melo for Deron, you'd have to be a complete idiot not to make that trade at this point. Terrible move by the Knicks not to trade Melo for Deron.
Berger saying he can't confirm whether or not D'Antoni wanted D-Will for Melo.
I can't imagine the Nets taking Melo for Williams (I assume they've seen Melo play) but If this is true, well, more power to MDA.
some forget that J Lin got best of Dwill in 1st Knick Win
then Outclassed Lin & Embarrased entire Knick team in Nets whipping NY at da' garden
But all in all cant compare Lin to Dwill yet but Deron Williams is about himself
he is great yea I'd like him
But he's only solely auditioning fully for Dallas Mavericks he's lock stock & barrel set
going back home to Texas to play for Dallas whether trade deadline (unlikely) or by the summer end
Once Dwight Howard knew his pal DWill wont be in Brooklyn its easy for Howard to return to Orlando
since East is in flux transition OR wide open for the Heat, Bulls and Magic to beat each other up next 2 yrs
Dwill wont be in NY nor brooklyn
until recently the allstar being playing like a dog at season start
He's now playing cause he wants to and has to!
Melo is under contract for the next 4 years. Williams expires this summer. The Nets would have jumped on a Melo for Williams swap.

The Lin that beasted on Dwill and the Lin that got beasted by Dwill has one major difference:
The "Superstars" of Knicks team came back to play with Lin. That's what hurt Lin's performance and Knicks offense. Instead of doing his usual high-paced Rose-like offensive plays, Lin was forced to play passive and pass. Lin was trying to fit in for the stars that came back and adjusted his game.
Let's not forget the stars played like garbage that day.
Dantoni wanted to trade Melo for D-Will just because D-will could run his stupid system, without a superstar point guard and knock down shooters he is a crap coach . I have never heard of an NBA coach who is so stubborn he wants to trade players just cause he can't adjust to his players because of his "system" , well there is one that comes to mind actually Don Nelson and we know he got fired in NY . Dantoni sucked as a coach and we've seen this guy get out coached many times over the last 4 years so good riddancce.

Larry Brown does it. So does Phil Jackson. Plenty of coaches don't like guys who don't listen to what they're saying.
I wish MDA were the owner of the team
