Knicks · What the heck is wrong with Melo? (page 6)

We'd have to spend that money on someone right? And if not, how would the team justify carrying all that cap room in a season in the biggest basketball market in the universe, after working so hard and giving up so many draft picks to get to that place?

Amare could prove to be a bad investment, sure. But in a big way he legitimized the franchise.
Not being douchey: I genuinely want to know your plan of attack. If you're the GM in 2010, what are your moves?

Looks good. Amare is beasting, Melo picking his spots, Lin's playing heady PG role, Chandler's our defensive anchor, Shumps, Novak, BD, JJ2, and JR form the deepest bench in the NBA.
That sounded more like a balance offence.
Guess you guys would rather see Melo fail, then see the "team" win.
What statement is this? Believe me, as a true Knick Fan, I hate when my team loses games (I get grumpy immediately) usually, I watch most games WIN or LOSE and come up with my own conclusion about the games. Regardless of what ESPN, Frank Isola, Marc Berman or Steven A. Smith make you believe, I call it like I see it.
Then open your eyes. See the Knicks as they are right now. Let go of your previous perceptions, and give in to winning basketball.
Now if you want to debate the Jets drama that's a few pages worth right there, not this old Melo non-sense.I have my eyes open, that’s why I stated that Melo is not performing like a superstar this year and the Knicks have little chance of advancing in the playoff unless he gets his game together.
Now if you disagree with that, I can recommend you a good eye doctor around my neighborhood because YOU ARE SERIOULY BLIND.
As long as Melo shoots at least 32% from the field and scores at least 12 PPG, he is doing his job and any criticism of him is pure hate. If he can exert effort on defense, that is a huge bonus, and the offensive requirements drop to 27% and 8 PPG.I wonder what kind of fan would be happy by having your superstar playing like a role player for an ENTIRE YEAR and having the team barely clinching to the last playoff spot because of it.
Or you mean why did the old "No Accountability, Inflexible" coach hang on for 7 games too long?
Bottom Line
121 Wins - 167 LossesMost importantly
1 Playoff appearance in 4 years, 0-4 sweep in 1st Rd.
OK, now give me the Knick's record and Melo's number since he came to New York.
18-24 under D'Antoni, 5-0 post D'Antoni.
Man you are even blinder than I thought, I said since he came to New York.
Give me the Knicks’s record and Melo’s number or maybe you don’t want to embarrass yourself?
Sure 2 50+ Loss seasons pre-Melo. 42-40 with Melo last year. I already quoted this season's coaching failure.
Señor, for third time, I asked you for the Knicks record since trading for Carmelo Anthony.
Is clearly obvious that you do not want to embarrass yourself, so I will do it for you, we have won 49 games and lose 59 since we traded for Melo, now I understand if you didn’t like MDA (A lot of fans did prefer a more oriented defensive coach) but to say that Carmelo is doing good (shooting such a low percentage and playing like a role player) or that the Knicks are wining because of him is plain and simple a BIG LIE.
Carmelo is having an off shooting year yes, but saying he's not contributing to any wins is comical. Does he have to score 30 for them to win? Not anymore, doesn't have to. Does Lin have to go for 25/9 for the Knicks to win? Not anymore, everyone's chipping in. Why can't people just be happy to see the best basketball we've played as a team all year under a Coach that actually holds players accountable?

I give you that; they are playing as a team and winning that way; however, there will come a time when he is going to have to separate himself from the rest and carry us like Super Stars do, he has the talent and I hope he does it, after all we didn’t trade for a role player.

Options, yes I just love watching options play basketball, it's so entertaining. I forget, Mr. What's our Melo Record, what was our record pre-STAT/Melo, oh that's right:
Record 29–53 (.354)
Place Division: 3rd (Atlantic)
Conference: 11th (Eastern)
Playoff finish Did not qualify
Record 32–50 (.390)
Place Division: 5th (Atlantic)
Conference: 14th (Eastern)
Playoff finish DNQ
Record 23–59 (.280)
Place Division: 5th (Atlantic)
Conference: 14th (Eastern)
Playoff finish DNQ
Yes, give me another DNQ anyday, that's what us basketball purists love! You leave out that one minor detail out; Melo era = return to the playoffs. Good, bad or indifferent, He's here and we're in the playoffs; you can't have it both ways. Our record sucked before Melo/Stat too.
Yeah, yeah, now go equate Melo to Starbury, they're exactly the same.

Fair question. The first team that uses this approach http://ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.as... to go after players who are efficient on offense and/or (ideally and) very good on defense, will be in great shape IMO. Once Lebron and Wade were gone, I would have been looking for only smaller acquisitions. Redick on a small salary would have been a nice addition and buying some draft picks would have helped. If Amare or Melo had been willing to sign here for smaller salaries and shorter contracts, I'd have been open to that but obviously they wouldn't have been. I'd be interested in long-term rebuilding. My team might have missed the playoffs rather than getting swept in the first round but that's a distinction without a difference anyway.

If it's Redick, some other role players, and draft picks, your team would not have just missed the playoffs--they would have been bottom-feeding in the Eastern Conference. You might be willing to deal with that, but that can not be justified after what was essentially two full seasons of wasted basketball with the explicit goal of making a run in the 2010 free agent class.
If you are the New York Knicks, you simply can not float through a season of at-best mediocrity, and likely brutal floundering, carrying cap room. So you have to spend that money on actual players. And no one is selling you their third overall pick for $3 million.
And think back to 2010. Let's say the Knicks pass on STAT and emerge with zero big stars. We buy draft picks and role players and stow cash in our back pocket (I'm sure we'd fully support Dolan pocketing that money!).
The Knicks stumble along. Watch Amare tear it up like he did that season for another team (God forbid the Heat). As fans, we're not storming MSG with pitchforks and torches?

Like you just said, he missed around 7 games due to a strained groin. Dude was never a workout fiend to begin with. The lockout really set him back. He is one of those players that uses training camp to get in shape.
And only 7 games. Shaq only won one MVP because every year he started the season out of shape and missed 15-20 games a year. If Melo was as out of shape as you guys are all saying, he would have had more than one injury like his groin in a pretty brutal season.

If they didn't storm the Garden after the past ten years, they're not going to. If you want to run an organization effectively, you have to be able to accept short-term criticism. You remember how loudly they booed when Scottie Pippen was drafted?

While I would say that the entire Knicks team was off today, this was exactly the type of game where we needed Melo (our superstar) to step up, for some reason he just don't seem to have this year. Hopefully he show up tomorrow, big game for us.

Because, despite 3 years of clearing cap space, we still don't have the any route to becoming a contender. If we had the same roster but with $40 mil in cap space instead of Melo and Amare, we'd have great options.I give you that; they are playing as a team and winning that way; however, there will come a time when he is going to have to separate himself from the rest and carry us like Super Stars do, he has the talent and I hope he does it, after all we didn’t trade for a role player.

True. Tonight's game was an excellent opportunity for Melo to take over the game or at least keep us close with his scoring, but he doesn't look anything close to Melo. The guy misses so many shots, had so many turnovers (4) and whatever good he did was followed by a negative thing.
I have no idea what is wrong with him but this isn't the star we need. Only player worth something tonight was Amare and he missed a lot of free throws (6 of 11 missed).
