Stat will see enough minutes, you don't want to rush him back like how the Bulls did Rose and injure something else (sat out last night). The problem right now is in the 2nd unit, not first. The guy has a gimpy back, let's not make him play playoff basketball minutes yet.
It doesnt matter when u play, it's how long u play..Minutes off the bench isn't softer than starters minutes..
We outscored Chicago in the 1st and 3rd quarter, our starters are actually doing well. It's the bench that's been killing us. See Boston (Ray Allen 35 minutes off bench) on how to effectively fix this.
We are actually getting killed on the boards..The plan of action can't be counting on Melo doing it on his own game in and game out..We are putting a three guard lineup out there..It's hurting us..
Really hurt us last night. Melo had 2 boards. Not his fault. I don't think he is a full-time PF
Not his fault? He had a very good game overall but even if you think he's an SF, he needs to get more than 2 boards.
I agree. But it's also harder to rebound against guys like Boozer than it is to rebound against guys like Granger. Not trying to make excuses for him, but as good a player as it is it's gotta be an adjustment grabbing boards against guys bigger and more physical than he's used to.
Exactly thats all I'm saying. STAT rebounds and block shots when he puts in the effort
Tonight will be good. Drew Gooden playing C. Melo & Tyson should beast
When Stat gets back, I think he should get the job of pouring gatorade for the guys. Not sure what the title is, but he should get that job. Either that or towel boy.

People forget that Amare was starting to own teams right before he went down. he is gonna help us

Tyson and Melo groin checker?
Stat off the bench is just retarded...it's a reason KG is having a -all of a sudden- great season, the switch him to center in a centerless league..stat didnt really get going this yr until we started playing him more as a center when tyson would sit...
When stat and lin were in the line up..substitutions were early and often..
We have trouble rebonding some nights because we focus a lot on packing the paint and stripping the ball..bdavis is not the rebounder that lin is, and lin boxes out better then most of then pgs in the league..if he doesnt get the rebound niether does the person he boxes out.
I think they should play Amar'e something like 20 minutes per game in future regular seasons and when the playoffs come, he's fresh for like 40 minutes every night, and hopefully 40 points too!
It depends what STAT we're getting back- I'm a big fan of his, but I'm not sure how he'll play when he returns. If he plays like the STAT just before he went down with injury, great- we need that guy! He was playing good defense and offense. But if we're getting back the STAT who struggled for so much of the season, or worse- the STAT from last years playoffs, then that's not going to be much help- he seems to take a long time to get back into the swing of things.

The floor is spread out much better when Melo plays PF even if the other team's SF is on him. I mean, you'd have to be blind to not notice how much better he's played as a PF than SF this year.
It's not about him beating 4s because he beats 3s just as easily now that he is healthy and has his shot. It is about what Bonn and JVG says it's all about the spacing because of the cross matches it presents putting Melo in the line up as a 4 at the four. Teams now a 4 can't guard him so they put their three on Melo which leaves a big on Fields. That should put pressure on teams but Fields is not taking advantage of his matchup because he is a poor free throw shooter and lacks confidence to his credit he did tried to attack in the second half by cutting and driving to the basket but he needs to open with that. Also because he is shooting poorly a big can take away his drive.
Yes we need help on the boards and Amar'e would help that but the Knicks are getting killed because the second unit has no size. Yesterday Woody could have used Jorts size and I think that was a mistake and his ability to knock down a jumper would have put pressure on the Bulls big which would have helped the second units spacing but instead he gave Fields more minutes and had Novak at the 4 which is not a good match up for getting rebounds. Back to Amar'e he gives the second unit size and a go to guy to run the offense thru. With out a pg and I know STAT works better with a PG but the second unit can post with Amar'e. The second unit has no inside guy to collapse a defense so defenders can stay with Novak most of the times.
This is not about not needing STAT or MElo and STAT working together. Its about strategy and using players to help the team. I think Melo and STAT work well at the 4 and 5 when a big is on our three because it creates space for both Melo and STAT. We saw that against Indy or Philly when Chandler was on the bench to close the 4th. If they bring back STAT they need to go to him early and let MElo do it late in quarters. I will be interested seeing if and hopefully how the offense goes if Fields comes of the bench while if they insert STAT into the starting lineup.

As holfesh pointed out, the game is played on two sides of the court. We are getting killed on the boards and its too much to ask Melo to body-up on bigs like Boozer, etc. We are painfully small at times and Amare's presnece will be a welcome sight.
I think its brilliant strategy to bring a guy with an uninsured contract out of action because of a bad back and instead of playing him after he warms up to let him cool off and stiffen on the bench.

The fact the Melo plays PF isn't the reason he is playing better...He is still facing the same SF defenders as he did before...This coach has figure out he needed to get more touches to be effective....Carmelo has been scoring like this for 8 years and you are telling me it's his recent play against PF that's the key...You can't seriously believe that his defending PF has added to his offensive output...

Melo can score like this from any position. I think Health and taking the bulk of their shots is helping. It's undeniable that he's as healthy as he's been all season.
If Amar'e had the three ball in his arsenal then you could get the same spread but really you can be a 50-60 win team with Amar'e, Melo, and Chandler in the starting line up. They just have to be shooting well the whole season. Before STAT went out you so the chemistry start to pick up but Melo was just missing easy baskets, jumpers and lay ups. STAt started to cut off of Melo post ups and Melo started back door cutting. It can work I just think Melo at the 4 and Amar'e at the 5 creates to many match up problems if you have a capable 3. Regardless of who starts I want to see that line up and think we will.
It would be a gutsy move by Woodson to bench their 100 million dollar player, especially if things went south.

I wouldnt' look at it that way. for one it wouldn't be permanent it will only be until amare gets back into the groove. Also it will help our second until which has been weakened
