Knicks · Bibby>>>Baron at this point in their careers.. (page 2)

GodSaveTheKnicks wrote:bibby is healthy. bdiddy is not. why is this a thread?

why is this a thread? well for me it's about baron's decision making as a PG that's hurting the team not his injuries. i.e. running up the court full speed and chucking up 3s with 20 seconds on the shot clock. i'd rather have a PG come off the bench on a wheelchair than have BD on the floor.

bernard @ 4/19/2012 9:58 AM
Bibby is, by and large, careful with the ball. He plays pretty smart. Even on defense. He plays like a vet and does what he can with what's left of his athleticism, which was never too great to begin with. Sure he's slow and unispiring. But he doesn't overpenetrate and then throw stupid passes that lead to run-outs like Baron does 2 or 3 times a game. And he doesn't jack up stupid shots like Shump does from time to time when he's running the point. And he doesn't make the myriad of rookie mistakes TD makes every time he plays. I can see why Woody feels more comfortable with him than the alternatives. Thing I don't understand is what happened to his shot. If he could just knock down the open looks, he'd be a lot less of a liability for us. I still feel he's going to make most of shots when he hoists them up because he used to be such a good shooter. The shot doesn't usually go with age -- don't know what's going on there.

So I agree with with Cash that he might just be our best option. But I don't agree he's what we need. What we need is Jeremy Lin to come back.

Agreed. Bibby knows his "role" and his limitations, and makes up for it by playing within himself, playing smart heady ball without hurting the team. Baron still thinks this is 2007, and can regain his dunk over Kirilenko ability.

IrishKnickFan @ 4/19/2012 10:07 AM
We do need bibby to contribute at least like he did last night if we are gonna have any shot agaisnt the heat. I mean if baron and bibby can push themselves the first round that will help us bigtime until hopefully lin could come back for the next round if we get there

I agree, crazy.
I don't get the point of Bibby playing at all. The guy brings the ball up over halfcourt and then just hands it off and plays off the ball. If he's going to be off the ball, he shouldn't be in there. We have better offguards that could be used.
I can't see how this guy was ever a point guard in the NBA. He can't freakin' handle the ball! Is this something one loses with age? The guy is in his mid 30's, not mid 50's! Why does he pick up his dribble as soon as a defender gets on him?! He's terrible. I don't care what numbers say over 2 games.

At least he gets it over half court!

And, he was not just any PG he was an excellent PG - his handling skill and handling of pressure is far superior to BD.

I too am shocked that his shot won't go down being that it was once deadly.

8 assists don't come by just handing the ball to someone.

bibby used to be a bigtime cluthc shooter. he is starting to get his shot back and if he does completely then that will give us another deadly 3 point shooter

Well said, though I like Baron, I just wish he played within his limitations. That said, his injuries are probably making things REALLY HARD for him anyway. I hope he does return to playing good bball, like earlier in the year. There was a time where both he and Lin were playing pretty close, though Lin was usually better but making more TO's.

Like JVG says: if you are injured then don't play but if your are playing, it cannot be used as an excuse.

Yeah but Bibby is slightly less awful.

Who cares? We got Bibby to shoot the lights out and he can't hit outer space. Yeah, he'll pass the ball to someone somewhat near him on the perimeter. Big whop. We need Lin back and healthy if we want to compete for anything in the playoffs... and I hate putting that kind of pressure on him. Therefore, for our longterm hopes, it's best we just shut him down this season all together. Second round or not.

Bonn1997 @ 4/19/2012 10:50 AM
If you merged the strengths of Bibby, Douglas, and Baron, you might actually have a marginal NBA level backup PG!
statandmelo1234 @ 4/19/2012 10:58 AM
No one is saying Bibby is the best option for us..of course I'd rather have Lin back. But since we have to go with what we have Bibby is playing smarter ball than baron is right now and we should give him more shots at the reins..a risk I know but we're desperate at PG..again
Bonn1997 @ 4/19/2012 11:30 AM
Bibby is a very smart decision maker. You don't average 3 to 4 assists per turnover without doing something right. As pathetic as it sounds, if he could at least shoot 35%, he'd be by far our best PG option.
gunsnewing @ 4/19/2012 11:31 AM
lol this is crazy last week bibby was a walking corpse and TD should've been getting his minutes. I'm ok with Bibby and Davis backing him up for limited minutes cos he is banged up
Clean @ 4/19/2012 11:52 AM
BD is dumb for a Vet PG. There is something called a passing angle and he seems to not know what that is. How many times has he tried to pass melo the ball from the top of the key while melo is on the wing. I expect this kind of turnover from Chandler not BD. Bibby was in the same situation these last two games and all he did to fix it was take 2 or 3 steps to the side to get an actual passing angle.

A healthy bibby is better than a totally banged up BD. [sarcasm]That's great observation on your part[/sarcasm]

I'm less inclined to post to your board every day Martin. There is a growing number of your posters that seem to be pre-pubescent children who lack any real understanding of the game or how much the players work their arses off just to see the floor. They only want to talk trash about your teams players and covet someone on a different roster.

I tire of people who endlessly bash someone in order to get an arguement going. The best posters to this board seldom say anything anymore.

In game threads you have endless arguments about anything instead of observations on the game. (Se Boston game thread)

I'm all for a you have to be 18+ to post requirement.

statandmelo1234 @ 4/19/2012 12:10 PM
not really bashing Baron..just calling it like I see how the situation is right now. I give Davis being injured and I understand you won't play your best like that. so i'm just saying, Bibby should start then since his body is more able and he's making smarter decisions
