Injured players don't perform as well when healthy.

I agree. But some who have injured wrists don't get a pass for it even though they play through it.

I don't think MDA keeping him out of two games in the 4th was saying "he don't like him".......

If he was hurt and you need points, he is not your guy.

Remember, early on the offense was disfunctional.

Nalod @ 4/24/2012 2:44 PM
Grunwald was panned by some based on the Toronto gig.

I have always defended him as being a solid guy. All Gm's make blunders and often the owner is in control.

Grunfeld just got extended by Wiz owner and it looks on paper he did an awful job. What we don't know is who gave the orders? If the owner wanted to go really young with the boneheads then the failure is on him. Maybe Grunfeld was saying he should not do it that way.

Glenn Taylor of Minnesota is known to meddle and he kept McHale on as his GM for years. Kahn just got another year on his contract and while many panned him, Minny was lookin greal good until injury hurt them.

Ebb and floow.

Grunny got a nice momemtum from Walsh's work and we got lucky. Our season had been defined by Smith, Novack and Linn more so than by Melo and Amare. Chandler being healthy really helped.

And make no mistake MDA had a hand in all of it. INcludieng drafting Shump and getting him minutes.

MDA was not a complete failure. He just could not get the pieces to fit and ultimately would not adapt.

I respect a man who sticks to his principles. It don't always work and he went out with dignity. He was not he villan. Lots of folk blame Melo but at the same level Melo stuck to his as well. Melo had the contract and its a players league. MDA was cooked.

If it Dolan, Grunny, MDA, Melo, etc, I think it was handled very nice publically.

Sweet! He deserved it, he did a great job this year.

Nalod @ 4/24/2012 5:10 PM

Good for him. Usually Dolan would string him along.

I wonder what is in store for Allan Houstan?

Did you watch Amare play the other night vs. the Hawks? Thats done? Wow... ok

Not a cap killer? His salary takes up space that could have been used to re-sign Novak, Baron, JR Smith, Fields, and Lin.

There have been a dozen threads about how the Knicks can keep Fields, Lin and Baron. Are you paying attention at all?

And the flip side is that you would rather have Novak and JR Smith than Amare, which is kind of silly/stupid, no?

JamesKPolk @ 4/24/2012 6:54 PM
He really hasn't done anything to say "yeah, that's impressive".

Everyone knows who Jr Smith is and signing him for $2.5 million was a no-brainer, even if I don't like him.

Novak and Lin literally fell into his lap and came out of nowhere. Hard to believe he foresaw their great play when nobody did.

The only move you can give him legit credit for is Tyson Chandler. That was outside of the box thinking and was a smart move.

But until he makes a winning trade for us or makes a good draft pick for us then I cannot judge him accurately. The majority is still Walsh's roster here. Shumpert was his last pick.

Whether or not he might have seen potential in Lin and Novak he still gets credit for adding these pieces...Had he not, we would have been out of he playoffs...Those were huge additions that could shape our future..No brainer additions counts(JR)..Brainer counts (Chandler)..Lucky additions counts too..Sometimes it better to be lucky than good..

Its easier to get lucky when you are good and put yourself in a position to get lucky

that made little sense on the trade side of things. The drafting part is still unknown, but I think as a GM he has done just about everything we expected. That puts him miles ahead of our GMs pre Walsh, who only made moves that made the team exponentially worse with each move. Even the ordinary seems legendary - welcome to the Knocks.

Layden and Isiah had no idea what the cap meant and not only that they didnt seem to know talent either unless lazy fat has beens count

Isiah definitely knew talent. That was his strong point.

You are right when it came to the draft he did know talent that was his one strong point. I meant trades like mo taylor, eddy curry, and malik rose

The Knicks haven't made a winning trade for a long time so maybe that should be seen as a positive. Also, you could make an argument that adding Tyson made NY a much more desireable place for guys like Novak and Smith to sign here. I wouldn't dismiss Grunwald sending Lin to the d-league either. I remember thinking that the Knicks were going to cut him and that D'Antoni had no use for him. I thought it was a great organizational move to commit to getting two young guys better in the absence of having any drft picks for the near future.
Nalod @ 4/25/2012 6:53 AM
MDA was a huge advocate for Lin.

No doubt he was on the bubble but he was showing stuff in practice and they liked him prior. MDA birthed Linsanity.

The trade for melo was completed by our deep pockets. We ate the amnesty on chauns contract after picking up his option and then signed Chandler. That was a 28 million dollar move, or about half the cap!

Its financially crazy but a brilliant roster move.

I don't think its just one move or another that gets you extended but a series of moves and the culture you maintain.

Knicks are in a decent place going forward.

For us? No. We do not have the resources to replace all of them.
