Knicks · Today is a telling game (page 1)

Does Melo struggle again with Stoudemire in the lineup? It was scary against the Cavs. Melo might be better at PF. Finding a good role player to start at the SF, and either moving Amare to 6th man or finding someone desperate to take his contract (if possible) may be the only options. We need the superstar Melo though, not the only who averages less than 20 points per game with Stoudemire in the lineup. We can win a title with a team built around Melo, Lin, Chandler, and Shumpert. It would be very similar to the Mavs of last season with the team being built this way.

Either Amare has to come off the bench or he needs some time at tghe five giving Chandler some rest. last year Amare was very good at the five. But I think Amare coming off the bench will not only help our second unit but it will give Chandler some help. I mean he still making he is money and will get his minutes so it shouldnt matter if he starts or not
arkrud @ 4/22/2012 10:05 AM
If Stat is the man he should initiate this "come from the bench" himself.
It is very difficult for max player to make this transition.
Because he knows that it may be no way back into starters... Live is hard.
SupremeCommander @ 4/22/2012 10:12 AM
I don't believe Melo is 'better as a PF.' Melo is a hell of a basketball player. So is Amar'e. They just have to figure out how to get it to work together
GustavBahler @ 4/22/2012 10:19 AM
The good thing is that they have a few games to figure it out. Hopefully if its clear that Amar'e isn't ready for prime time, Woodson will go back to what was working and bring Stat off the bench in the playoffs.

I don't mind Stat getting an opportunity to prove that he can start, but if its clear that it could hurt the team's chances in the playoffs then I would rather see him benched.

sealy @ 4/22/2012 10:30 AM
The Knicks are 6-2 w/ both of them under Woodson, correct? And they clearly dumped Friday's game, whether because they were resting or coming off the emotional high that they secured a playoff spot seems to be up for debate.

I think Knick fans are focusing on Melo's stats way too much and of course he is gonna have a drop off w/ Stat in the lineup with him. All I care about are those W's and winning 6 outta 8 seems pretty good, no?

I won't be mad if lose today because I prefer they play Chicago.

MSG3 @ 4/22/2012 10:55 AM
Melo needs to play his game. Stop trying to force the action into STAT and he'll be better for it.

I wouldn't panic, I think the only reason he struggled in the Cavs game was due to lack of effort- no one really seemed into the game (and to be fair I wasn't particularly interested in it myself). I expect to see a restrained Melo for the next 3 games, as he'll be relaxing a bit now we're in the playoffs. This team can play together- they were 6-1 when Woody took over, and though Melo didn't have his jumper working, he was playing good defense (Amar'e was too).

CrushAlot @ 4/22/2012 11:24 AM
The Knicks haven't lost back to back games since Woodson took over. I hope that continues today. Atlanta is a good team. This should be a very good game.
holfresh @ 4/22/2012 11:52 AM
It took Miami a year to learn to play with each other ...Knicks window is one game, how did that happen?
smackeddog @ 4/22/2012 12:02 PM
Just to let you know, since the game thread isn't up and running yet- Tyson Chandler is not playing tonight (well done Berman, you were wrong again), according to Al Iannazzone's twitter (he asked Woodson).

Amar'e is playing the 5, with everyone's favourite Knick, Landry 'Confidence' Fields, moving back into the starting line up. Didn't say anything about BD, but I hope he's resting too.

So really these next few games will just be about getting Amar'e some rust off his game. Hopefully we'll see some of Gadzuric

The clock resets every time someone comes back from an injury? That's funny. And it took Miami closer to 10 games anyway.

My nephew is a Heat fan that text me about 30 times a day about the Heat..I know it took Miami the entire season to learn to play with each other..And yes it resets because of th idiocy of MDA

Well if your nephew said it, it must be true.
So Miami hadn't gelled yet when they went 15-1 in December?

I think your math is a little off but with Melo at PF and Amare out, the team DEFINITELY did gel. I never said otherwise.

So its Amare's fault if they regress?

You're free to reach that conclusion. If you read my reply carefully, though, you'll see that I did not offer a causal explanation for regression. I merely commented on what occured during the previous stretch.

I know you didn't thats why I question your explanation/conclusion. To what do you pin this regression?

Amare and Melo both playing positions they are less good at.
