So is he worth 25-30 million?

HE CAN'T EVEN HIT A SHOT OUTSIDE OF 3 FEET!!

Did you watch Bynum yesterday? Not that even he is worth 25-30 million ...

Its certainly not one and not the other. They need to lock themselves in a gym with a coach and figure this sh*t out.

I think part of the problem is not having a PG who can break his defender down. Over the past year the Knicks have had too much variation at he position.

Thats certainly fair but it did not really work with Lin and both of them either. PG for now is their glaring weakness. Chandler and Amare don't really work that great either.

How do you feel about the amnesty? Is there some validity here?

How many games has Lin Melo Amare played together?

I think even the most conservative gm would have a hard time passing him up. Also, guys like Davis and Smith signed in NY and I would guess that Tyson's presence helped their decision.

Davis and Smith are gone and we don't have cap room for them or Novak!

Many of us questioned the safety and sanity of this move back then. They had to know that Amare was a huge risk especially after the Boston series.

It comes down to Chandler now being worth 30 million in cap space. I am sure we could have figured out what to do with 30 million.

Good god man, you are wrong. You need to stop posting about who he Knicks can or cannot sign, you have missed the dozen thread explaining what the team can and cannot do.

Well maybe I did miss it

From what I understood, Lin gets the MLE, Fields - bird rights and we are left with the LLE

Is that wrong?

I believe Chandler's contact was around 4yrs $50mil. Whereas Nene got 4yrs $60mil. Don't know where you are getting $30mil a year from lol

its about $13-14mil per year

Very few and not a big enough sample size - I know its still an unknown for the most part

yea MLE or LLE. One or the other NOT both. We have our full MLE because we are under the luxury tax threshold.

We have the $5mil MLE & vet minimum which is $1.3mil

Because it did not in the games that they played.

You stated that part of the problem is that they do not have a PG that can break down the defense implying that if they did (LIN) it would/could be better. There is no way of knowing that either. In the games that they did play, though it was not many, it certainly did not look that way.

Right, and Davis can go anywhere he wants causevhevis on amnesty.

My point is simple - I am sure many can and will disagree ...

Was signing chandler and not saving the Amnesty for Amare the correct move? As great as he has been I think that it might not have been worth it. If we did not sign Chandler and amnestied Amare this offseason then we would have a boat load of money / cap space. (IMHO of course)

Hind site is part of fan hood and I think it is a valid point.

Bonnie and I both liking thinking out of the box so I'm ok with that comparison

Unless you knew Amare's injury was career threatening, there is no freaking way you ever wave a guy averages 25 ppg on 50% shooting...

I was not talking about waving him last summer - I was talking about this summer.

You don't this that if Dolan could he would amnesty him this summer in a NY second?

So you can see into the future and don't pick up a player as good as Tyson Chandler because somehow you know Amare's injury is gonna get worse. I don't get this at all.

Everyone knew that Amare's contract and cap space was dangerous. And you don't think off season surgery is worrisome?

A number of us brought this up way back. Its not seeing the future, its seeing the reality that scared most teams away - before this past off season surgery.

mrKnickShot @ 4/30/2012 11:37 PM
And Tyson too has been far from mr iron man in his career - teams were scared away by that as well.

From what I remember, Golden State was the only serious offer he had.

only cause not too many teams with $13M in cap space.

possibly - how about Dallas?

I think 13 million is a premium for his type of numbers and his injury history and thats because of his great defense. But paying a premium and costing us our amnesty is a different story.

Edit: its 14.5 million per. Thats 34.5 between him and Amare so if we could have amnestied Amare this offseason that 34.5 million for "pieces" for 2012-2013

This move was once again made with the gambling view that Amare would be fine.
