Knicks · LIN injury = lower paycheck (page 1)

nadavshomron @ 5/3/2012 6:55 PM
I think J-LIN can't get big contract from a baskeball standpoint because of the injury - marketing maybe MLE 5+ milion
I think a 2.5 milion from the knicks + comercial deals = he will stay with the knicks
chubbyMelo @ 5/3/2012 6:58 PM
are you nuts? he will get the 5 million exception and not a penny less. he is worth every cent too, if nothing else from a marketing standpoint. Knicks will make that back in a few months.

Its not about making it back - the knicks don't need the money. Its about not being able to sign others.

He will definitely get it tough.

MaTT4281 @ 5/3/2012 7:03 PM
If Lin were to accept a one year contract, we would own his Bird rights, correct? What are the chances Grunwald could convince him to sign a small, one year deal, use the bulk to the MLE to help bolster the roster, and then offer him a 7-8 M per year type deal?
MinsHeartsReezy @ 5/3/2012 7:09 PM
His marketability on its own pretty much guarantees the highest contract possible. Chandler/Melo/Stat contracts are what's killing us on flexibility. Does the new CBA allow for restructuring of existing players' contracts if the player offers?
nadavshomron @ 5/3/2012 7:27 PM
you are making him much more than he realy is...he is a good young player who had a good run of games and than got himself injured
he hasn't prooven anything yet
maketing wise he is a big asset and thats the only reason he may get the MLE

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand why people are so ready to over pay this guy.

I agree with you he still needs to prove some more things but you seem to not like lin that much. i mean i think he is a good player i mean being a fluke is having one good game he had several.

I don't dislike him it's just that he only proved that he had potential in the short amount of time he played. Then he got injured. He is not a superstar, no matter how much marketability he has. This is where this organization always screws it up. The guys has not even played one game back from and injury and we're ready to overpay him? Come on. Plus, there are too many good/decent healthy free agent points guards to consider before giving him money that he really doesn't deserve.

In my opinion, and I know many will disagree, we should be more concern with securing JR Smith than how much to overpay Lin.

We dont need him to be a superstar thats why we pay all that money to amare and melo. we need a point guard who can facilitate the offense and go to the rack which lin can do. I mean the mid level is not exactly superstar money. also JR is most likely gone he will get more than the mid level in my opinion. I just think as a knick fan you would be excited to have a good young pg who can make life easier for melo
markvmc @ 5/3/2012 8:32 PM
This is a business. His jersey is one of the top sellers. Fans flock to every arena he played in. that amounts to profit.
He's a very good player, but even if he wasn't all that good, it would still, for any team, make sense to pay the guy. He'll make your money back and more.

Sorry but as I said, I am not convinced. I think their are better point guards available.

Ya I dont think Lin even cares about the money i think he would take less in order to keep novak. As a point guard i like lin's game a lot and feel that it will make life easier for melo who can concentrate on scoring and not having to facilitate the offense

If you get injured on the job, and you have the options of taking more money than you've ever made in your entire career, you're going to be willing to take less to make sure some other guy is employed? Thats not even smart.

This talk of potential is an example of precisely what Lin said about the scouts who doubted him because he didn't look the part: it doesn't matter how many times you show them you can play, it's just never enough. If by 'potential', you mean mere signs of being able to play but not actually playing well, I don't know what TV screen you have been looking at. If you want to roll out his stats, this is not 'potential' as if it's all just some speculative dream that can't be verified. Furthermore, in the case of the Knicks, they are deeply in need of a decent point guard.

People have remarkably short memories. It was not long ago that JR was not by any measure playing well.

Good Post. Nobody Lin is a superstar but the kid is a good pg which we need desperately. I mean he obviously was looked over because of maybe his race or the fact that he was undrafted but we are not gonna get a better pg for the mid level in my opinion. The only guys better like deron and nash are gonna get top money
AnubisADL @ 5/3/2012 8:52 PM
Lin isn't that good. If he was as good as some. Claim he would have been playing in Golden State. The guy is talented but we can't afford too hope he turns into a good player.

Just at of curiosity who is the the point guard that we can get that is much better than lin and also retaining jr smith. Im just wondering. I mean im not saying lin is the best point guard hell i'd love to have nash or deron but they are out of our salary cap range.

I'd prefer a vet. Thing is Im inclined to trade Lin for pieces so we can get some other pieces and use the MLE to get a quality vet.

I'd love to get Mo Williams here, assuming he opts out.
