Knicks · Year 2 of the Melo trade. Where are they now? (page 2)

Then, as now I think you gotta give it 5 years to look back.

Year one we were projecting .500 or better and would have made the playoffs without Melo. Swept.
Year two we are no better.

Now if you talking the future thats a different story.

I think your looking at the pieces looking to make yourself feel better and boster your MeloLove.

The bottom line is Denver is rebuilding on the fly without stars and have great flex and draft picks.

All the while, they are no better but more important, NOT WORSE doing so.

Thats the direction they wanted to go. They felt like Melo was a star they could/did not want to pay and perhaps felt they would never win a championship with.

Year two they are in the playoffs again and they traded their star for what you percieve was less than full value.

Nobody is crying over AR being in Minny. At least teh Darko cries are done.

Where are "They Now"? Funny, about the same place we are.

So the question is, was it really worth it?

And suppose it was not worth it and dumb jimmy gave up more picks than he needed to and out bid himself just like he did with Amare, what now? We just complain about how dumb he is endlessly? That certainly won't help me feel better. The trade is over - we can look at it in a couple of years and see how the teams ended up but no use over crying and regurgitating this over and over.

Melo - Getting swept in the first round for the 2nd straight year
Knicks - 6th highest payroll in the league. Longest playoff losing streak in NBA history. Deeply flawed roster.

Plus 43 Wins and 47 Lost games since the trade.

And the most clutch player in the league is now on our team

Yes. Now if we could only surround him with PJax, Shaq/Gasol-Bynum

Why would the most clutch player in the league need all that? Lebron, whom Melo supposedly owns, is doing great with a no-name coach and just one all-star teammate.

Future looks bright, pg with knee issues, sg with leg issues, sf with attitude problems, no picks, and a pf with back and knee problems who is to stupid to master the box out.

I would say exchanging Lee, Zach, multiple first round picks, gallo, chandler, crawford was worth it to lock in a 7th and 8th seed.

Too funny to even comment Very witty

Thanks; I try
If you get humor out of our team's situation, that's probably the healthiest response available.

Lebron is heads and shoulders the best player in the league - its not even close but this was a case of bringing a plastic knife to a gun fight.

In 3 yrs we should have cap space with Amare and Chandler coming off the books.

I dont love Melo. I like the Knicks having top 5 players at their position.

I like potential as much as the next guy but after 2-3 years I'm not expecting guys to make quantum leaps in performance. Sometimes what you see is what you get.

If Jamal Crawford had a brain he would be a star.

If Eddy Curry had heart he would be baby Shaq.

If Chandler had handle he would be allstar caliber.

If Gallo was consistent he'd be a great player.

The list goes on and on.

At least we have a guy we can build around and maybe make a run with in Melo. The only reason Gallo and Chandler had enough value was because they were on rookie deals.
Lets see Gallo and Chandler fetch a guy like Howard or D Williams in a trade.

Oh and Denver is about to be capped out with their current team. Miller is a UFA, McGee is a RFA, Fernandez is a RFA, Tyson qualifies for an extension this summer as well.

Reminds me of the old Knicks. Lots of role players and no stars.

I think OKC and the Spurs will give the Heat a great fight. If Rose comes back healthy, the Bulls will too in the future.

As will the Lakers - all those teams are stacked and possibly better or as good as the Heat

As Shaq said last night, you really don't have much of a chance unless you have the right coach/system, the right role players and most importantly a 1-2 punch.

And the work ethic and commitment to the team.

This is my hope with this team; however, Melo has to understand how important he is to the fans, to his teammates and to the organization, he CAN’T uses the regular season to get in basketball shape anymore, his dedication should star in the offseason, and his effort should never have to be question.
Otherwise as talented as he is, he may not be the right player to build around; the next two years should be very telling. Lets hope.

great post nalod... this thread is the definition of FAIL....

Denver is in good shape, say what you want about gallo, but the nuggets have been better than us since the trade, and if you want to go this route, since gallo has been injured 1/3 of the season, Moz doesn't play, felton is gone and chandler was in china, the nuggets were still better than the knicks and didn't have 90% of the pieces they traded melo for.. LOL.. so what does that tell you about melo... LOL

After all of this, we were told that melo is what we had to have, and we have not been better, acutally we are worse, I am also envious of denver's situation to some degree...

Answer: Nowhere

Like yesterday, like tomorrow.

But the Heat are amazing!

I don't care about who we traded to get Carmelo. It's about what Carmelo isn't than what he's made out to be by some people. He's simply not a top 10 player in the game.

MDA system worked for the players we had. Those players we gave up didn't suck when they were here. Felton's game was about to reach the next level, as were Gallo, and Chandler. Unfortunately the system didn't fit Melo style of play, so we dumped the coach and promoted a coach that would cater to Meloball. And once that happened, everythingwas supposed to be fine and dandy and everyone was supposed to be happy. I don't know about any of you guys, but I AIN'T HAPPY!

Well, if it makes the OP feel better about our 2 post-trade 1st round sweeps, then...I guess....

As we all know, we set a record with 13 straight playoff losses. One article mentioned something that I (and probably others) hadn't paid attention to: Melo was on the floor for the majority (seven) of those 13 games.

I really liked the Chandler, Gallo, Moz, Felton and I was a big Randolph suporter. That being said that team was 2 games over .500 when the trade was made. If you look back you know that I hated the trade and blasted it. However, aside from the draft picks I think the Knicks may have gotten the better of the deal. Once you make that trade you don't try and change the star player you traded for into a role player to fit the coaches flawed system. The Knicks also were able to get Tyson because of that trade. The KNicks went with a more traditional roster and gave D'Antoni the year to make things work. He couldn't amd chose to resign. Woodson comes in and overcomes another horrific D'Antoni start and gets the team to the playoffs and avoids sending a lottery pick to the Rockets. Facing the Heat and being far from full strength doomed the Knicks this year. That doesn't change the fact that they only lost 1 regular season game at home under Woodson, never lost 2 games in a row before the playoffs and had the second best record behind Popovich's Spurs during Woodson's term.
