Knicks · Year 2 of the Melo trade. Where are they now? (page 7)

knickstorrents @ 5/10/2012 8:35 PM
Shumpert and Lin are big losses but I think a general rule is the team with the best player usually wins.

In a Heat vs Knick matchup, the Heat has 2 players better than any of ours.

I think the 2004 Detroit team is the only glaring exception to this, though you could make the argument that Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince were the two best defenders on the court between that team and the Lakers.

What makes Wade better than Carmelo?

Putting the trade aside,

Denver is a much better organization than we are. They were a better team than us before the trade and they have made some great moves.

- McGee for Nene was a monster move
- drafting Faried best pick of the draft
- Andre Miller was a great pickup
- Corey Brewer was a great pickup! Helped Dallas last year in their memorable run and now really helping Denver (couldn't get off our bench )

Development:

-Ty Lawson is AWESOME! and is really the main difference in this team
-Affalo has really developed into a nice player

CARL IS A GREAT COACH even though they will probably get knocked out in the first round again against a very overrated laker team

Please stop overrating Denver management. They sucked and were gifted Melo in the draft. Denver has made plenty of crappy moves.

They will give McGee a huge deal then he will proceed to be a bone head that he was in Washington.

Andre Miller is a UFA.

Corey Brewer is trash.

Billups leaving opened up Lawson to be the guy - He is by far the most valuable player on that team.

They are making LA look stupid, granted that Gasol is over the hill and MWP is out and Kobe is sick (the chandler excuse?) but Denver is playing really well.

By the way, not only Denver had Gallo and Mozgov starting last night and playing solid.

Corey Brewer (and Rudy Fernadez) were acquired with the additional CAP SPACE created for them in the Melo trade.
Andrew Miller (and a first round pick) were acquired when they traded Raymond Felton to Portland last offseason.
So I should say that Gallo, Mozgov, Corey Brewer, Rudy Fernadez, Andrew Miller (plus multiple first rounders) are all related to the Melo’s trade and I’m not even including my boy Wilson Chandler since he is hurt and not contributing, otherwise Denver would probably look even better.

While Billups was an asset (since he was an expiring contract), we didn’t trade him for Chandler, instead we used our amnesty provided by the new CBA and technically we waived him creating Cap space in order to sign Tyson.
Trading Billups for Tyson, would being a great move for the Knicks because we could still use our amnesty today (may be on STAT) and create salary cap for a better free agent this offseason, but we don’t have it any more.

Is Wade that good defensively? Does he do some great things yes, best two guard blocker, but I do not see a great on ball defender. Plays the gaps well though. Is wade better I would say yes but without SHaq and Lebron Wade sometimes did not make the playoffs. Actually had the worst record in the NBA one year I believe. Is he great yes but does he also need greatness around him i think you could also say yes but what champion doesn't.

We didn't use Chauncey to get Tyson; we had to remove him to get Tyson. It doesn't make sense to call someone an asset when the only value he offered was via cutting him. It would be more accurate to say he was an obstacle we had to remove rather than an asset that helped us to get Chandler.
