Im curious to learn what other feel the difference between Melo, Garnett, McGrady.
McGrady
- Supremely talented guard
- Supposed to play with Grant Hill in Orlando and Yao Ming in Houston. The other star was frequently injured.
- Took his team to the playoffs that ended in first round exits
- Accused of not making the team better.
Garnett
- Supremely talented PF
- Got eliminated from first round every time except for one year with Cassell and Spreewell
- Forced his way to Boston to team with Pierce and finally won
- Accused of making to much money so team couldnt build around him
Melo
- Supremely talented SF
- Eliminated from first round every year except for one.
- Came to NY to play with Amare who is always injured come playoff time.
- Accused of not making his teammates better
Garnett never took a night off since he entered the league.
Always gave at least 100%, always tried to win.
Hence, the difference between him and MeloGrady.
If Melo doesn't correct the course of his career eally soon, he may find himself as the Mc Grady of his generation.
Garnett in his prime did everything well on both ends of the court. He mostly had NBDL level teammates in Minn. Melo is a good but not great scorer and rebounder and about average at everything else. When motivated (something you'd never have to say about Garnett), he can be an excellent defender.
Garnett is a jerk but ther is no question that he was a overall better player than the other two in his prime. McGrady and Medlo are both cimilar in that they are/were both supreme offensive talents but didnt have the overall game that can propel teams like lebron, kobe, and wade have

McGrady didnt have overall game? Whoa. Come on now. McGrady's skill level was off the charts. Pretty much could do whatever he felt like on the court. Prime McGrady was my FAVORITE player growing up. The guy was so smooth it was comical. Sadly he had the bad luck of playing with 2 constantly injured stars.
The idea that one player makes "other players better" a joke, really. Almost nobody does that. It's just an expression that means who's the best player on a good team. That being said, McGrady and Garnett are both better than Carmelo.
Garnett is the best of that group because he played so hard on defense. I think I put McGrady ahead of Melo because he was such an amazing scorer. Maybe I am used to Melo because I see him so much but I believe McGrady was the better scorer pre-injuries.
McGrady had some great seasons in all dimensions of the game - scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks. And, if I remember correctly, his teams really struggled when he was out.
If Melo doesn't improve his game and help his teams more, he's in danger of being viewed as much closer to Marbury and Francis.

Magic, Nash & CP3 are players that make others better, by virtue of making the game easier for the rest of the team. Usually the elite players have that kind of ability to varying degrees. Setting scrubs up for easy scores or getting them the ball where they can do the most damage is very important.

Agree with you 100% - I think Melo is currently more on the Marbury path than any of the other names thrown out there. I could see him becoming disillusioned with the fan base and the media once the criticisms start to pile on. He needs to step it up big time.
Melo can't be Marbury because they don't have the same personality. Melo isn't going to throw guys under the bus in the media.
Marbury could have played with Garnett but he wanted to be the man. Problem is when he was the man he complained about being all alone.

For what he has acheived it seems like a valid comparison. But Melo is not a sour sulking towel headed a$$hole. Melo needs to mature like Kobe did and Lebron did, till then he will be married to his first round exits. The guy would really benefit from someone like PJax. I think we really need to get a Pjax/Sloan type coach. If not we should flip Melo for DH.

Cant argue with this - However, still apples to oranges since Kobe did not mature enough - PJax hated him and wanted him traded for blowing up plays all the time and Kobe had sick teams that he won with.
I do think that PJax can raise his game and have a positive influence on him.
Both were far superior passers(are) and always made their teammates better. McGrady was a lackadaisical defender though. KG had no flaws in his prime.
Always loved Garnett until he became a Celtic. But Melo is heading into Marbury statist with the quickness. And if that's the case I say trade him now cause I don't think I can go thru that again.
Some guys are very happy making 20 million a year and being the teams star.
Some teams are very happy being in contention and win enough to keep ratings high, profits good and shareholders happy.
StarMelo need only advance a few playoff rounds here and there, maybe a trip or two advance to conf. finals, maybe a finals and that will keep the pressure off enough for him to be ok. He might be the kind that can handle it.
By the time he is all done he will have made over 200 million dollars. He is not an MVP type player.
NCAA championship season is only 32 game long and to win the title its basically a tournament. Gerry McNamara had much to with those wins as well and his shooting carried them thru the tournament as a very important piece of that championship.
StarMelo is no Starbury. Garnett was a complete player and matured to accept teammates.
