Knicks · Shumpert vs Faried (page 1)

Shumpert had alot more upside to be an all star type player in my opinion. That injury though he may never be the same
CrushAlot @ 5/6/2012 10:17 PM
I don't know who I would pick. I wanted Faried on draft night but I have been really impressed with Shump. Too bad the Knicks couldn't have both guys.
nixluva @ 5/6/2012 10:24 PM
I thought this team was weak at the PG/SG spot and an elite defender like Shump was a great pickup. Faried is proving his worth, but I think Shump was particularly talented and his upside is tremendous. I would've been happy with either of them or Singleton, given all of them are guys that do the things this team is weak at in recent years. Defense and or rebounding. Shump may be held back a bit by his injury in not being able to work on his game this summer. Still he grew a lot this year.
Killa4luv @ 5/6/2012 10:28 PM
I wanted Shumpert then and now. I dont see the value in using the pick for a player like Faried when we so badly needed a guard 1 or 2.

Shumpert is a better player now, and will be in the future. this isn't close.

SupremeCommander @ 5/6/2012 10:31 PM
I wanted Faried way back when and think he'll be a stud. I am not disappointed with Shump though
mrKnickShot @ 5/6/2012 10:32 PM
Not close?

Faried paced first-year players in rebounds (9.1 rpg) and field goal percentage (.584), and led Western Conference rookies in blocks (1.14 bpg). Faried also averaged 11.6 points and recorded six of his 12 double-doubles this season in the final month of the campaign, including a 27-point, 17-rebound performance April 9 in a 123-84 win over Golden State. In the victory over the Warriors, Faried established career highs in both categories, and became the first player in the shot-clock era to record that many points and rebounds in less than 25 minutes (24).

Averaging 12 points and 11 rebounds in the playoffs.

Allanfan20 @ 5/7/2012 8:54 AM
How is Farieds defense, ft % and work ethic, along with his passing and shooting?

Shumpert has improved a lot throughout the season at all of these and his perimeter defense (In a guard dominated league) will prove to be invalueable, if he still has the ability to play defense after that surgery.

tj23 @ 5/7/2012 9:55 AM
I think Shump is probably the next Iggy with more upside but the ACL hurts him. Faried could be a great garbage player(dirty work) like a Ben Wallace or he could just be a banger teams bring off the bench for energy. Shump was one of maybe 3 guys I wanted and Faried was never in that group although he's proven me wrong so far.
MS @ 5/7/2012 10:24 AM
For what this team really needed I think Faried would have been the better selection. This guys is going to be one of the best rebounders in the entire league for years to come and is the perfect guy to cover up Amare's defense and get us extra positions and he doesn't need the ball which is what you need with Melo.

Shumpert is and will be a great selection going forward. However with two knee injuries already it's concerning. And you can't say that Shump is the better player now. If you give Faried the minutes and he putting up a double double especially when he is free to rome with someone like Melo in the lineup.

ChuckBuck @ 5/7/2012 10:29 AM
A healthy Shumpert has way more upside than a 6'8 poor Ben Wallace clone.
MaTT4281 @ 5/7/2012 10:33 AM
I love both those players. I was on the Faried bandwagon on draft night, but I have absolutely zero reason to second guess Shump. He's quickly turned into one of, if not my favorite player. What are the chances he makes one of the All-NBA Defensive teams in his rookie year? Get well soon Iman!
FoeDiddy @ 5/7/2012 1:41 PM
Shumpert with no question..Faried at the end of the day is undersized and will always be a liability on defense. Shumpert helps in so many different ways and just with the eye test helps the team in so many different ways.

I'm know I'm going to take a lot of heat for this but Shumpert's shooting percentages are low enough that right now he is still a liability on offense. Look at these numbers:

League average PER: 15
Iman Shumpert: 10.8
Faried: 21.9

League average Win shares (per 48 minutes): .100
Iman shumpert: .068
Faried: .212

Now I don't think Faried is quite as good or Shumpert as bad as those stats would indicate. There aren't currently any good stats collected on man-to-man defense (Shumpert's main strength). But in the areas the stats are collected, Faried has a HUGE advantage over Shumpert.

I think that's all fair. Shump's jumper is far too inconsistent. But he has the tools--crosses fingers--to be an explosive open court player, which, combined with his defense gives him the edge in my opinion.

MSG3 @ 5/7/2012 2:19 PM
I don't think you can say it's an open and shut case in favor of Shumpert yet. But an athletic perimiter defender with good size who has shown flashes on offense is more valuable than an undersized PF in my opinion, unless that PF is Charles Barkley.

I like Farried a lot. Perfect energy guy. Kinda like Anthony Mason except way more athletic. Don't know if Kenneth will have close to his type of offensive game though.

Haha - I saw the Win Shares but I did not want to bring that up since I don't want to give a validity to WS's.

Faried had one game where he scored 27 points and had 17 rebounds in 24 minutes!!!!!

I have also been watching him play defense recently and he is quite good.

I know that there will many homer votes here but anyone who says "case closed" is not even attempting to be open minded.

MS @ 5/7/2012 2:34 PM
I love how people say this is not close.

Faried is averaging 10.5pts 10rbs 1.5blks in 30 minutes against the Lakers
(10pts 7rbs 1blk in 21 minutes during the regular season)

Tyson 11.3pts 9.9rbs 1.9blks for the regular season 33 minutes

This kid is Ben Wallace not a poor mans Ben Wallace

Ben Wallace was a supreme defender

Faried is a far better offensive player

Edit: Tyson is averaging 1.4 blocks not 1.9 - He also only has 3 in the playoffs while Faried has 6

Tyson really needs to step it up in the next game. 1 ain't gonna cut it - along with those dumb intentional/technical fouls.

As good as Shump has being for us, Faried, has being better, the guy can ball.

You could go with the more mainstream PER or any other statistical analysis, though. They all give a gigantic advantage to Faried.

It's about a 2:1 voting edge for Shump here. My guess is on a Denver forum Faried would get a unanimous victory and on an NBA forum he would get a small victory in a head to head poll.
