yep probably easier to get a contract after a win then a series clinching loss
WOW! Seems like a homeboy hookup. Dolan sure does love Isiah. We've got Isiah in the background, Grunwald and Woody, all old Indiana pals conveniently running the Knicks. I guess the only way he wasn't going to get the job is if the team missed the playoffs. They already made up their minds on this one. This team had runs this year and so I would've been cautious about reading too much into the good stretch to end the season after a coaching change. Historically teams seem to have a burst of good energy after coaching changes. You have to look deeper to really tell how much of it was the new coach. IMO this team started playing harder immediately! before he even had a chance to run them thru a single practice or put in any kind of changes. That to me is a sign of the coaching change bump. Later he did show he could keep them focused, so i'll give him credit for that. Most of all I think he was very fortunate to have the teams best player finally giving 110%. It doesn't take a great coaching move to show improvement if your best player is suddenly going ape-nuts every game to prove he's not the problem. They didn't change the offense at 1st. They didn't change the defense. The big diff was effort and Woody wasn't the reason the effort picked up starting with that very 1st day. The teams likes him and that's half the battle. He's a good leader and has their respect. Those things are all in his favor.
I thought Woody looked lost the 1st 3 games of the series. He had a few good moments in game 4, but i'm still concerned about his ability to help the team prepare to adjust to what MIA has been doing. Maybe he'll figure out what needs to be done, but it didn't look good early on. I could see this coming based on how he was handling the offense at the end of the year. The offense looked like he wasn't paying any attention to it at all. It slowly devolved into a pick up game level by the end of the year. So no surprise they looked bad against a top defense in the playoffs!!!
It's a bit premature, but in the end I think Woody fits well with Dolan and the City. I think Woody fits the team overall tho I have some concerns with how he's gonna develop Lin. I think Grunwald and Woody will make a very good team as they move forward. My question about Woody is can he rise to the level of the situation in the playoffs. That's where the big boys shine and I haven't been too impressed so far. He's still got life and a chance to make up for the poor start and prove himself in the playoffs. So far he's been a complete bust in his career as a coach in the postseason. Let's hope he can turn that around.
You're right they should just let Woodson go and bring back Dantoni
Great news. Woody is a great defensive coach, and has show unexpected genius and creativity in offense, amassing a .750 regular season winning percentage compared to his predecessor's .429 percentage with the same group.

Here is where the [/sarcasim] tag would be useful - some people have a hard time picking it up. So, let me interject here before Nixluva's web crawler catches this.

you are new'ish here. BBJones needs the opposite tag so that we know when he is serious

What is your point exactly? I made my opinion based on what I saw actually happen. Woody is a good coach, but he's also been swept 2 years in a row and almost got swept a 3rd time. So are questions about his acumen in the playoffs not warranted??? Woody is 12-21 in the playoffs! Hate on MDA all you want, but he was 26-29 and 4 of those losses were last year as you know. Woody doesn't have a better record than MDA, but this isn't about MDA. Woody is the one that has to figure out how to beat the Heat.
This isn't just about the regular season. This team is trying to win a title. Woody's ability to handle that level of play is very much in question!!! Like I said, he's still got a chance to do better starting with game 5. I won't say he has to win, but the team has to play well even if they should lose. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO HAVE THE TEAM READY TO PLAY. For 3 games they looked unprepared!!! The team should look like it's been well prepared to play the game. Let it be that the team plays well in a win or loss and that will be a plus in his column as a coach in the playoffs.

Now that is not a bad idea.
I could color code my posts:
This has been a decent season, especially with the emergence of Lin and, frankly, without getting into the details, the departure of D'Antoni.
I miss Marbs & cap'n Zeke!
Until Jackson officially turns the Knicks job down I don't see the reason to be discussing with Woodson or for that matter with his agent about a contract.
The only way to not have idiot fans (myself included) second guessing mediocre to good coaches here in NY is to bring in a coach with multiple rings.

Larry Brown. Second guessed every minute.

Because of him I specifically stated "multiple" rings

Then why didn't you just say Phil Jackson or nothing?
I got to laugh at some of the posts in here. Woodson took over a massively underachieving team and finished the season 18-6 with only 1 home loss despite numerous injuries. Further, during this same stretch the Knicks were the best defensive team in the league. Woodson has earned the job. Obviously, Phil would be great but I have no complaints about stability and a great defense that Woodson would bring.
I also laugh at people claiming Woodson relies too much on iso as if Kobe and Michael Jordan were not getting massive amounts of iso and regularly shooting over double and triple teams. SMH!

Don't mind them - who ever was going to take over the sexy MDA would have been subjected to disdain because who ever would have taken over MDA would have made MDA look horrible. Bar was set very low.
