If fully healthy, including Lin and Shumpert, yes, I think so. Let's not forget that Nash is not only a phenomenal playmaker, but one of the best 3-pt shooters in the league. He really is a great complement to the rest of our roster (except on defense), and our biggest problem against the Heat was getting into offensive ruts, which lead to bad possessions, which lead to turnovers.

Papabear Says

Did you see what the Heat did to Lin this season? What makes you think it will be any differen?

What present? We're using the Miami Heat big three strategy with inferior, higher paid players.

So mortage the future for a chance to win 1 title with a 40yr old

Nash changes that paradigm ..

Worse case scenario I rather wait and let Amare come off the books than sign a 40 year old over Lin

Uhh, I'm in favor of Lin over Nash. But we have the MLE, Bi-annual exception, and the vet's min to give out this summer. There's going to be a lot of competition for Nash for sure, but we do have certain advantages in recruiting him: Stoudemire; a glaring need for a playmaker; and legit contender. If it's not all about money for Nash, I wouldn't so quickly rule out the possibility that we can get both Nash and Lin, and have a 1-2 punch at PG.

Sorry, didn't realize this topic or discussion was about Lin vs. Nash. If it's a choice between those two, I'll take the younger PG.

No. You need a Westbrook kind of point guard to beat the Heat. Heat's Achilles heal is weak point guard defense. You need someone fast enough to beat Lebron James off the dribble on the perimeter.

You have to either out quick or out muscle James... I think out quicking James is more likely, but even that's not easy to do.

biglove44 @ 5/10/2012 9:13 PM
So does Woodson, he wants anyone but Lin starting next season. Bank on it, we'll have a veteran minimum pg (say thank you to your cap killing superstars) not named Nash starting over Lin.

I am disgusted with Amare's lack of hustle. I hate the way he seems unconcerned on defense, like Tyson will just get the job done. I can't stand how little effort he puts into rebounding. And his midrange shot has not proven effective this season. He really should STFU or GTFO.

Lin, at 24, is a MUCH better use of our MLE than Nash at about 40. Yes, it would be great to snag Nash for a minimum deal AND keep Lin. He would be the perfect mentor. But it would be the ultimate starphuck stupid move to sign Nash INSTEAD of Lin. That would push my hoops interest right across the Brooklyn bridge.

YUP

Lin's 23.

Lin could be our PG of the future, but right now we need someone who can keep both Melo and Stat happy while keeping the rest of the squad involved. Chandler admitted to being a liablility on offense. Nash will get Tyson the ball where he is comfortable.

I doubt that any other PG in the league would be better able to strike the right balance when it came to distributing the ball to Stat and Melo. Stat isn't getting any younger and is breaking down regularly. If Stat can't be traded, you have to get the most you can out of him, while you can, and Nash will bring out what offense Amar'e has left. If Novak is still here I doubt that any PG would be able to find him in the corner like Nash.

Nash averaged a double double in 31 minutes this season with almost 11 assists. He is still one of the best PGs in the league. I don't believe that the Knicks have the luxury of time when it comes to the Stat/Melo tandem.

After Linsanity, Lin settled into a good PG but a championship level PG? Not for a few years, if ever. Nash is a first ballot HOFer who is still putting up great numbers. He keeps himself in great shape and still has a few good years left in him IMO.

If its between one of the greatest PGs ever to play the game (who can still play) and a PG who had an amazing but brief run before coming down to earth, I'll take Nash. No one will make better use of the talent on this squad.

Sorry there is no evidence Melo will be happy with anything other than the entire offense being what it is under Woody. Dump the ball to Melo.

Nash knows who the best scorer on this team is. I would expect that most of the touches would still go to Melo, getting him the ball where he is in the best position to score. After that we would have someone who knows who to find a player anywhere on the court, better than almost anyone else in the league. This is more of a trade Melo post than a Nash post.

No player in the NBA is out-quicking or out-muscling Lebron.

Really, guys. Basketball is never a sure thing. Just because Miami is good or could win the championship this year doesn't mean they will be this good next year. Lots of things can happen. It could be that it will be their turn to have injuries or maybe they will have a really bad year. That's the thing. You just never know. I mean, they were almost so sure of getting the championship last year and yet it was stolen from them. If it was a sure thing, we wouldn't have to play these games. We'll just give the championship to whomever we believe is the best.

If Lebron, Rose, Durant, and Duncan all get injured in the off-season, we might stand a chance. Injuries to Dwight, Dirk, Paul, and Kobe would help too. We also will need the following:
-No injuries to any of our players
-A coach who does not quit on his team
-Melo not to quit on the team
-No nearby fire extinguishers

I guess Amar'e Stoudamire is publicly encouraging the team to trade him so he could join Nash with the Heat....
