Honestly, I really do not think he as bad as you guys are letting on. He is a willing passer, cuts well to the basket, has awareness to create space and is a very willing and capable defender.
Do you not see these things in his game?
Agreed; he had a down year but has plenty of skills. He's worth a small contract, and right now, the only healthy back-court member we have is Toney Douglas. We are DESPERATE for back-court players. Not to call you out but what other capable two guard would not be able to take advantage of being played by 4s and 5s?
Fields is not a 2 guard. He's an SF being forced to play out of position.Even worse because in April he was playing the three and Shump started at the two. So since he was in his correct position what was the excuse?
He's a backup SF who can play minutes as a backup SG. I do not think you appreciate how dire our back-court situation is. We have no cap space, no 1st round picks, and no 2nd round picks. Toney Douglas is our only healthy back-court member under contract. Between the MLE, LLE, and league min, we need to somehow acquire 4 or 5 back-court players.

Nope. He just appears to be one.
As Tyson appeared to be flu-ish

All im saying is dont waste cap & roster space on Fields. Bring someone in for a 1yr vet min to share time with shump. I can tell u he will give u more than Fields will playing out of position

I believe they have the 46 pick. I may be wrong. Maybe he improves and I really hope he does but right now you can find players with Field's skill set around the league.

You get mostly chubby Bill Walkers for the league min. I'd rather have Fields.

Yes, we need more geriatrics to fill the training room treatment tables
Bonn1997 wrote:We're also seeing a recency bias in people's assessments. Fields has had one very good and one bad season, including one with very good and one with bad shooting. That's sufficient to make a 2 year, $5 mil contract a reasonable offer.
Intersting ...
Let me "appear" to understand what your saying.
Lacking any statistical evidence assisting your statement/ASSESMENT, you are stating that 1 bad year and 1 good year warrants a 2 year contracts at 5 million? I DID NOT KNOW THAT!! THAT IS WIERD, WILD STUFF!
Help us repair our bias:
Does it make a difference if the "bad" year came 2nd?
Is there any relevancy in how good the good year was?
How about how bad the bad year was?
You have the coolest internal metrics for analytic assessments I have ever come across.

Now you're being a troll but I'll give you credit for not smelling bad. I did not say I used statistics to arrive at my estimate that 2 yrs, 5 mil was reasonable; I'm just trying to avoid a recency bias. Does it matter that the bad year came 2nd? Yes, a little but not to the extent people think. People usually give more weight than is justifiable to recent observations. And if the the order were reversed, Fields would be getting $25 mil offers.

I wonder if there is any chance NO would trade Ariza? He is the type of player NY needs now.
