the report that came out at the time was that he (brewer) was demanding a certain amount of playtime which, coach wouldn't promise without seeing him even so much as practice with the guys. Maybe he was worried about him effecting a locker room that he barely had control of.
That said, guys are under contract and you expect them to be professional and, I don't think Brewer had a reputation as a bad egg.
Im actually suprised MDA wasnt run out of town sooner for this. When you get a guy who brings 8ppg, 3rpg and shoots 40% you FIND A WAY TO MAKE THAT WORK.
Horrible coaching.
Can we bring up Darko now too?

Nah, can't blame that one on MDA. Darko even ADMITTED to mailing it in and not working as hard as he could have. Said he rededicated himself in Minne and wound up having a decent season
Seriously? MDA said he couldn't guarantee him a spot in the rotation. I don't blame him. Brewer isn't that good. He was a bum on Minnesota and ok now he's a semi-bum.

hey... like Melo did the same thing here. Obviously it IS the coach! (every coach)

on point has NOTHING to do with the other, your better than this Fish!
I think everyone is making anti-mda's point by bringing up only his offensive contributions.
yellowboy90 wrote:I think everyone is making anti-mda's point by bringing up only his offensive contributions.
no its stupid. MDA was quoted as saying Chandler was most value player on the Knicks. MDA LOVED JJ, the most offensively inept player we have ever seen. MDA ran out Mosgov for size and rebounding. MDA loved Shumpert and threw him immediatly into the mix. MDA was not a great defensive coach, but he's got a track record of valuing players who defend.
But its all about Melo isnt it? Season 2 and another post season flop and excuse laden season and here we are.
Whats funny is the desperate need around here to make Melo something he isnt. He's a great scorer and great shot maker, but he's 2 dimensional. He scores and boards (sometimes). His defense is occasional. His conditioning has been openly questioned by the coach he endorsed after admitting to mailing it in under the last one. He doesnt make others better, he doesnt create space (ask Novak in the platyoffs). He's just a great scorer and not else.
Yet people here bring up Corey Brewer to attack the coach he quit on... why? Is this supposed to make me like Melo more? Is this convincing me it was MDA?
Whats really funnny is who cares? Who is the audience for these idiotic threads?
We can win with Melo, but he WILL need to change his game. Its on him. Lets hope.
MDA and his no defense has a lot more playoff wins than Melo does. Pretty soon Gallo will too lol
Who cares.

Actually no, Melo 1 playoff win, MDA 0
I think we need to put MDA behind us.
We should burn nixluva in effigy.
It would be the catharsis this forum needs to be able to put MDA behind us and start living more in the present.

You obviously have not watched him - figures.
Its not about how good he is or if he is a star. Why could he not get PT on last years team?
Exactly right. Horrible coaching!
Blinders are dangerous

I wouldn't know, but I'm sure you can and will elaborate

On this board many were extremely upset and many said "who cares, its corey Brewer".
Well ... corey brewer turned out to be a very good player. Did not make any sense.
Jordan Hill - people wanna say he is a stiff, maybe he is but he is certainly playing much much better. Tonight, the stats don't show it but he was the only Laker big who actually played well and played excellent defense. I can understand why MDA did not play him - not sure about the trade though.
I don't understand how he couldn't even get onto the court with D'Antoni. The Knicks were 1-9 out of camp and out of playoff contention very early on. They also didn't own a 1st round pick so there was no reason that he couldn't get a few minutes a game (i.e. 10 mina). There were some real bonified stiffs on the roster that year with expiring contracts playing ahead of him. Hill not getting a few minutes a game didn't make sense. The Knicks were playing for nothing. Ignoring player development for the future was wrong.
Guy was a bum and wasted at least 2 seasons of development for us. He will probably never have a winning season again. Time to move forward.

Your 125% right but recall MDA had no use for defenders like Brewer or lost post offense & occasional d' from Z-Bo Zack
MDA wont get another NBA job next season. Maybe in 2014 & hope its with Charlotte Bobcats

Funny how they forget that MDA was the reason we brought back Jared and it was MDA that made the call on Iman Shumpert. Tyson surely didn't suffer from playing for MDA at all. MDA is not anti defense as people keep saying. His biggest fight with STAT in PHX was due to his lack of defense as the guy who was supposed to anchor the defense. We see now that with a guy like Tyson it makes a HUGE difference to your teams D to have a true anchor. People keep lying saying he had no defensive assistant in PHX when he did. The team used the exact same defensive system he's always used this year, but with better defenders we can see it works much better. People wanna say it was Woody, but his system is exactly the same as MDA's. In truth the biggest difference was Tyson!!! You take him out of the equation and this team still stinks on D, cuz as i've said for years, you need defensive talent to be a great defensive team. It's the same with scoring as it is with defense. YOU NEED THE TALENT!!!
Also didn't we already go thru this whole idea that it was a financial reason for Brewer not sticking here? Knowing what the teams plans were, there's no way he was staying around for the money he wanted.

Say what you want Fish
M.D'Antoni hasnt been a good coach in say 4 yrs ?
too bad its all in NewYork
He quit on NY Knicks plain and simple, & for his ardent fan support here believes for bo-diddly second
That D'Antoni cared about you, & me and NewYork City peoples and fans of Knicks ? eh ?
Well I'll leave that one ..for all to ponder
Cool $24 mil bucks for a coach whom once starred as a Coach
who could care less for Knickerbockers traditions or its fans which MDA took on many times in the Ny media press.
And that ain't magical my friend that is fact!
Letting Mike D'antoni go is the reason this team hung on to the 7th seed and made the playoffs instead of being replaced by the lowly Bucks.
God, he was the most awful coach in this history of this franchise.

Amen to that
no one is ever disputing MDA legendary success & W/L in NBA and Europe league success,
I was one like many ardent Knick fans whom loved when MDA took Knick job & has had 4 yr program to implement something.
Well
all these rosters are not his fault but to tell me this players coach didnt' try to ruin few careers wheter the NBA star
was good, avg. or bad.
So two-faced from this hippocrate of a coach whom Severly cricitize Knicks fans when they had to boo poor knick effort in over 1/2
regular season leading boos onto fragile Chris Duhon is ridiculous to let Duhon hang and then Mouth off at Knick fans cause they
booed bad efforts and being soft.
Recall Isiah Thomas took on Knicks fans as coach he sunk, MDA did same thing. If you're losing & rebuilding you s_uck it up
Every since MDA blasted NY media then try feable to back peddle told us what he thought about NY fans love for Knicks.
MDA aint apologizing for anything here either !

he didnt quit on the Knicks. The best star player whos jock your currently living quit on that coach and quit on his team. But spin that anyway you want.
Anthony said over the last three games, his focus “was to have an energy that I haven’t had so far this season.”“Especially on the defensive end,” Anthony said. “Everybody on this team knows, everybody in the world knows I can score the basketball. It’s not that important to me. As far as on the defensive end, just showing my teammates that the effort is there, giving that extra effort. And as a result, everybody’s been feeding off of that.”
those are Melo's words. MDA had class to walk away. Sorry thats bottom line. Its the right move to make when your $19mm a year employee just doesnt want to try very hard.
But Im sure that will all change under the new great coach in Woodson, who is looking forward to Carmelo "showing up in better shape."
But yea.. it was the coach
