Knicks · Grade each Player (page 1)

Melo A Played great after the coaching change. It was nice to see him rebound and actually play defense.

Stat B- needs more shots and needs to actually BOX OUT and play better help defense. I really like his positive attitude.

Chandler A had a great year and changed our entire defense.I really wish he could make a shot beyond 3 feet and make a lay up when fouled !

JR Smith B- shot % was poor but had great energy on defense, nice 6th man to have

Shump B+ very athletic and great defender who came on at the end of the season as an added scorer

Lin A Linsanity, enough said. Hopefully he gets his turnovers under control

Fields C- pathetic shooting but did run the floor well and is athetic. I actually wouldn't mind him back as backup that plays 10 min a game.

Bibby D+ looked broken down most of the season.somehow played well in playoffs.I thought he would have been out of the NBA next year, not sure now?

Davis C would have been be a decent backup if 100% healthy.great team and locker room guy

JJ B great defense and role player on a playoff team.

Novak B great regular season but pathetic playoffs

How does STAT get a B. This guy talks smack all day long and never came to back it up. He is injured goods and his back can give out anytime along with his temper which isn't good for the team. Amare gets a D for the season. Melo for his antics and inability to conform to MDA strategy get a C-, lucky for him he turned it around or I was gonna give him an F. Chandler gets C Good defense but horrid offense even with shooting 69% from the field. Lin gets a B. probably never saw a B in his life but he gets one here. Nice story but let's see him back it up. Shumpert impressive rook probably two years removed from seeing the explosive Shumpmthat we got use to seeing B. JR Smith D+, lacks consistency. Single handedly destroyed game 5 just before halftime.

Judging by regular season only, should only be one A grade, for Chandler.

+1 although i'd give chandler a B

Melo: B- showed flashes of the truly great player he has the ability to be, but needs to put it all together more consistently to make it to elite status

STAT: D a major regression in production, poor mental lapses and the confounding inability to rebound (even accidentally)

Lin: A for a D-leaguer to do what he did is unprecedented, turnovers or not

Chandler: A+ playoffs were rough, but the man single-handedly turned around the culture of this team; the best free agent pickup in recent history

Fields: D+ always played hard and never complained, but killed the team with his horrifying jumper

JR Smith: C brutally feast or famine, but as far as I could tell, never bagged it

Shump: B+ offense needs much more work, but looks to be an elite talent already defending the perimeter; might be my favorite Knick this year

Novak: B+ high-end value for what we paid him but as one-dimensional as it gets; a hell of dimension, though

Bibby: C Not a bad grade for a reanimated corpse!

Jeffries: B gimped at the end, but seems like the only dude who ever tried to take a charge on our team

TD: D- No F, mainly because he never bitched, but everything else was a mid-air blimp wreck

Baron: D+ solid teammate, but nothing in the tank

Jorts: B loved the grit, only dude who brings memories of the '90s Knicks to mind

I dont feel like grading every player but I will grade Amare with a F. Fields gets a Z

Chandler - (A) - DPOY, great field %, double double guy, etc.

Melo - (B+) - I'd give him a B but he really turned it up when Woody took over. Underrated defender but lackadaisacal, questionable decision making.

Lin - (B+) - I would go with an A but he only had a small body of work.

Shump - (B) - Inconsistent offensively but shutdown defender all year who had his moments offensively.

JR - (B) - Streaky offensive player but provided a big spark and was a great asset on defense. Has star potential but will always be a chucker.

Jeffries - (B-) - 1 less player on offense but played some outstanding defense this year under a defensive oriented team. Even looked decent offensively with Lin.

Novak - (B-) - A bit high for a guy who doesn't put up the points every night but played good team defense, boxes out well, plays fundamentally sound, and brings a spark off the bench and ignites the crowd.

Baron - (C+) - Pretty good backup even though he tends to make the easy plays look difficult. He got the job done even if it wasn't pretty.

Stat - (C) - I could go lower considering how awful he was at some points but still 17 ppg is a little significant even if he gives up double that.

Fields - (C) - Good slasher and decent defender. Improved much as a passer but has many flaws. No handle, no jumpshot, and limited athleticism.

Harrellson - (C-) - Solid defender but weak rebounder and very limited offensively.

Bibby - (C-) - Played smart basketball. One of the few guys on the team who didn't play like a bonehead. But struggled with his shot, couldn't penetrate at all, and couldn't stay in front of anyone.

Douglas - (D) - Can play good defense when he's focused, which he's usually not. Other than that he couldn't do a single positive thing all season.

Jordan - (D) - Hardly saw the floor but looked lost out there.

Walker - (F) - Thank God he is gone. The only thng he was capable of was hitting threes and he couldn't even do that this year. Way out of shape, no handle, couldn't guard anybody.

I'd agree with most of Gymkata's grades. I'm taking expectations into account rather than grading simply on absolute levels of performance.

Melo: B
Amare: C-
Chandler: A+
Lin: A
Fields: D
Shumpert: C+ (a lot of work needed on offense)
JR Smith: C-
Novak: B+
Jeffries: B-
Douglas: F
Baron: F
Jorts: C+

+2. But I would give Tyson an A-. He changed the culture of the team with his leadership and he backed it up on the court. Yes, he stunk in the playoffs, but it was a weird first round series, lots of injuries, coaching was iffy at best...I give him a rider for the post-season. He and Shump and Lin are the reason we will be competitive next year. Melo is supposed to be a stud at scoring. Glad to see he is trying some on boards and D.

Stat? Giving him a "D" is generous, but I can roll with it. He is a chump and needs to bring it next year or else be remembered as a dude who had little game and was elevated way above is pay grade by the talents of a two time league MVP. I am sick of his talk, too. He should STFU and let his game do some talking. He needs to prove himself because right now he looks like a worse starphuck than Starbury, who at least had game.

THat doesn't leave an appropriate letter for TD. Well, I guess Z-?

No TD gets a Y only because he sat on the bench most of the year. Fields killed the team game in game out

That was pretty darn good. I agree 90% except for Chandler and Amare. I cant give anyone an A+ while having almost no impact in the playoffs--on top of which he can score more than he does maybe an A- B+ Amare was an A+ most of last year but slipped considerably down to a C. He did not fit well and that may not be his fault. Remember last year at times the guy looked like Patrick Ewing with his 25-10's 55%

Seriously, dude? How does this make any sense? Shumpert is a rook. Came in and played very well on both sides. Sure, he's not polished, but he's a rook. And his offense is worse than Jeffries? I think not. Shumpert came in and exceeded expectations and finished in the top five rookies. I give him an A. Hopefully he can regain his health and get back on track. He's going to be very valuable for us.
Jeffries just plain stinks on the offensive side of the ball. Not even scrub level. Shouldn't even touch the ball.

Melo B - for subpar season prior to Woody
Chandler B - needs a bit more offense and MUST SHOW UP FOR THE PLAYOFFS LIKE HE CARES
Stat - D - for NO DEFENSE, subpar season and missing the pivotal game 3 for being a bonehead
Shumpert - B - for BEAST on defense - needs much work on offense

Shame applies to Lin who is virtually a rookie in his own right

Shumpert was one of the least efficient offensive starting guards. Touching the ball rarely (Jeffries) vs. more often but being inefficient are probably comparable. C+ for both might have made more sense.

Shumpert can hit a lay up.
You don't get bonus points for being useless and your team doesn't pass you the ball.

I think shump did okay offensively averaging almost 10pts without 1 play being called for him all year

Melo: B

Melo-lover!

It amazes me that everyone's team leader gets a pass for not showing up in the playoffs. I guess Chandler is likeable.
