I agree about Orlando. The center position isn't a focus in an MDA offense and if he decided his system came first, look out for Howard. D'Antoni is better off finding a team of younger player with no stars.

Amare played a lot of center in Phoenix. I think Dwight would do great in an MDA offense. He can finish on fast breaks and would have plenty of spacing for pick and rolls since Orlando has so many 3 point shooters.

Its not so much the fast breaks I would be worried about but the half court sets. How would Dwight feel about one 3 after another being launched without the ball going inside? You're right the pick and roll could be dangerous if Dwight gets his touches.

If Nash is there that will never be an issue

No argument here.

Nash is doing fine without Dantoni. Almost singlehandedly got a lottery suns team in the playoffs

While running MDA's system without changing a word from the book (it'S been documented a lot, I'm not making this up).

Ok good point but phoenix has the team to run the system. Dantoni wanted to Lin to run the same system while keeping the player we gave up half the team for then paid $20mil to stand in the corner and shoot 3's and run up and down the court putting up shots in less than 7secs and making it hard to get back on D and giving the opponent extra shot attempts. Adding Chandler and Woodson to the staff also went against his system. It make the end of starting an undersized amare at center and more of a focus on defense. And that is why Woodson is coaching the team today.
CrushAlot @ 5/11/2012 5:57 PM
If D'Antoni gets another job as a head coach in the NBA I hope it is in the Eastern Conference. That being said, I think RealGm really stretched the truth that this is a possibility. Rumor was from a tweet by a Magic 'insider'.

Hearing whispers that Mike D'Antoni would be very interested in a vacant Magic coaching job.

Fortunately he can't 'lure' Lin away. Teams can only offer Lintendo the MLE, which we have the option to match.

Right

MDA would actually help Howard to score more easy buckets. I don't see how it would be somehow a detriment if he went there.
Howard would thrive in MDA's system just like STAT and Tyson did. Also all this nonsense about the Knicks defense not playing well while running MDA's system is also pure garbage. The Knicks D was top 10 or better all year. During Linsanity the D was particularly strong despite the team not having their big stars or depth. No STAT, Melo, Baron or JR. The team was undermanned and still everything functioned at a very respectable level. So long as any GM that gets MDA makes sure to get him the kind of players he needs he'll succeed. Fans around here don't seem to accept that we gave him a team that fit what he wants to do for half of one season.

I think another good spot would probably be Toronto or any team that wants to develop a PG and Big tandem like Cleveland.

CHAOS @ 5/11/2012 10:40 PM
If Tyson & Amare for D12 & Turkeyglue goes down, Orlando would steal Lin and Novak for sure, trade Jameer & JRich to Phoenix for Nash, Frye & picks.

C. = TYSON
PF = AMARE
SF = ANDERSON
SG = REDDICK
PG = NASH

Bench = LIN / Q / NOVAK / BIG BABY / FRYE

I REALLY wish that you guys would stop making up stuff based on media created crap. For one thing MDA coached Shaq and he also had Zach Randolph here in NY. MDA doesn't have a problem with post players, he just hasn't had a lot of them.

When MDA has Zach, people thought it wouldn't work, but for the short time that he played for MDA, it worked and it revitalized Zach's career.

Randolph was playing well with the Knicks this season under new coach Mike D’Antoni. He’ll be worth watching on the Clippers, at least initially to see how he plays alongside the mess of big men (Chris Kaman and Marcus Camby) and star point guard Baron Davis.

IMO if MDA did go to ORL he'd have no problem with Howard. MDA isn't really inflexible, he just doesn't like selfish players.

I forget how long did he have Shaq or Randolf? This is an honest question. No flame.

dont think so buddy
as a matter of fact on SHAQ only stevie nash wanted the Shaq deal whom says it was Nash team,
like Melo MDA didnt want Shaq he has no use for BIGS

before you mention your remarks go research the comments MDA Says on Olympic team to Nate McMillian
who states MDA a fine coach but condifides to coach Nate he has no use for BIGS they slow game down too much,

Why you think S.Kerr GM and MDA clased ?
MDA wanted Boris Diaw type in Pivot/center to run his system

Imagine that eh ?
you a nba professional coach and you have problems with Shaq Oneal on your Phoenix team whom Nash states repetively
Shaq was one of best teammates he ever ever had

please go research all my comments cause you need to read it before getting off on media Crap stories on MDA

When it comes to MDA you'd think you'd know better than to challenge me on this, MDA didn't have a problem with Shaq. Regardless of what you wrote, which is wrong, when MDA has had post players he didn't ruin them or refuse to play them. As I said Zach did well and was able to rehabilitate his career after playing with MDA. STAT put up great numbers playing for MDA and I see no reason why Howard wouldn't do well under him.

Olbrannon @ 5/14/2012 11:25 AM
Here's a new concept let's trade coaches to teams instead of trading whole rosters to make them fit.

So M'dA gets Denver.
Karl goes to Orlando
Van Gundy comes to Knicks unless PJax takes the job.

DISASTER in Making MDA to Orlando ?
Great! for Knickerbockers we'd definitely move up in standings over Magic

MDA ?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/11811...

I'd love it !
see someone defend that crap

Fact of matter is MDA better off taking season off. Clear his mind on how game has change
Yes defense is part of ALL Sports

If MDA thinks for 1 sec he can come back with same 20 yrs old System speed ball and be effective without defending
well it aint gonna work regardless of which team hires D'Antoni again someday

You should NEVER use a Bleacher Report Article to try and support your point of view. You really think MDA doesn't care about D at all? Tell us what defensive system the Knicks played this year from start to finish? Was it some new exotic system that didn't involve switching? Did they rely on some new zones? The defense they used was the exact same defense MDA has been using and at the beginning of the year MDA stated they would be using the same defense. The major diff was having Tyson, Jared and Shump in the mix. The big thing that Woody added was a new voice and more detail, still it was the same defense. The biggest reason the team really got better after MDA resigned was that Melo raised his effort level several notches. It's almost all about the players you have and the commitment they have to defending along with having the physical and mental talent to be good defensively. The Knicks added good defensive talent and that's why they got better defensively. If they still only had STAT in the middle they would be awful on D again this year as MDA's teams in PHX were with him in the middle. The second the Suns didn't have STAT in the middle and replaced him with KT, they immediately became a much improved defensive team.

TymeLessKnicks @ 5/14/2012 4:16 PM
I really like the title of this thread!

I wont try to defend MDA here but I will say this, I think SVG has lost that team. I think he has most definitely lost the star player, Howard.

A fresh face in that organization might be just what they need because they are not beating a healthy Chicago or Miami any time soon.

A lot of roster changes have to be made for Orlando but I think MDA and Howard can have more success than MDA and Melo.

Does that mean MDA is living in NY for another year?
