Melo was going to go to NJ and collect his extension. There wasn't an option to wait until summer to sign Melo.

Anthony acknowledged for the first time he was ready to sign off on a Nets’ deal if the Nuggets decided they liked New Jersey’s trade offer better. Anthony is visiting the Nets in Newark for the first time since the Feb. 22 trade.

“When I was going through the whole situation, there was a time I really thought I’d end up in Jersey,’’ Anthony said. “I thought it was going to happen, but it didn’t. Now I’m here. No regrets. ‘’

Fine. If he didn't value the Knicks enough to wait to sign as an FA, then I'd wish him the luck he'd need on a team where he'd have to share the ball with Deron.

Too many things would have happend and we would have perhaps Dwight, Deron or CP3 instead of Melo.

So one can't compare the two options.

Melo in Brooklyn and the nets have to deal with StarMelo.

Denver helps themselves with other moves not directly involved with "the trade".

Only one bottom line here is results.

Lakers went into playoffs as a very hot team. They are not miami, but all we know is Denver had a better season.

The future will sort itself out.

Deron Williams is a ball hog now?

Deron Williams already stated he had to pick up his scoring in NJ for his team to win. Something he said he wasn't used to doing.

Deron Williams is a proven winner.

Denver had a better season than Denver of previous years or better than the knicks?

Denver had their lowest winning pct in 5 years.

Let me make it clear for those who dont understand Denver was a better team with Melo

The Nuggets did get better immediately after Melo left compared to how they were playing with him that year. It's only when you go back multiple years that your comment has any validity.

I am wondering about option one because I don't see the Knicks getting Chandler or Lin if option one was the team.
crzymdups @ 5/11/2012 7:47 PM
yeah, agree with crush. the idea that the knicks would have tyson chandler and jeremy lin if they didn't make the melo deal is probably wrong.

Desperate attempt of rigging a poll to sway the results in favor of the inaccurate truth that somehow Denver is a better team without Melo

Denver is not better team without Melo.
It is more interesting team.
Interesting to watch and intriguing at what they can achieve.
Also they have a lot of flexibility to change things if something will not work out.
Melo teams are boring and predictable on the court and their future is set by Melo max contract and inability to change his game.

CrushAlot @ 5/11/2012 11:37 PM
Watching the playoffs and wishing there was a choice where ZBo was still a Knick.

denver is better without melo. they have lasted longer in the playoffs two years in a row with their "team" as opposed to the knicks one man show.

DO THE MATH! people forget we had eddy curry's expiring contract coming off the books. there would've been room to get tyson:

salary cap this year was at $50 million.

current knicks:
amare stoudemire - $18.2 million
landry -- 790k
toney D -- $1.1 mil

former knicks:
felton -- $7.5 million
gallo -- $4.19 million
mozgov -- $2.56 million

that total is $34 million.

tyson chandler's salary this year was $13 million. he would have fit.

also, we could have renounced wil chandler but i am pretty sure we could have signed him to the same extension denver did (kicks in next year) and had room to sign tyson. we could have also used the amnesty on toney douglas to clear the room to get chandler, similar to what we did with billups.

lin could've been signed to backup felton. we would have still been thin at point guard with only felton, and lin was signed initially to be potentially the 3rd string.

Tyson came to play with Melo and Amare not AMare. He was very close to signing with Golden State. I don't think Tyson is in NY without Melo. Also, I don't think the Knicks bring in Lin or minimally do not commit to him when he isn't playing.

Yeah i didn't realize Lin and Chandler were part of the pre-melo team either. How did we miss them???

This is exactly right. Can't look at just numbers and assume Chandler would still be here. That's like saying if we had max space this summer it's a guarantee that we would get Deron Williams.

RonRon @ 5/12/2012 10:16 AM
I miss the chemistry, TEAM play, an identity, and effort that the pre melo team had.
Sure, we did need to add some talent to that roster, if we could have landed TC, Lin, and Novak, somehow, I would say screw Melo.
I don't think we would have been high on the waiver wire because we would have most likely had a better record than what we had.
Those players, probably aside from Curry and AR, all wanted to stay in New York.
I don't think Wilson Chandler would have went to China and Felton would have been out of shape, if they were part of the Knicks roster.

Melo puts up great numbers, he loves the spot light, loves the attention, but he isn't a player that makes his team better and doesn't play the "right" way.
It's not about the numbers Melo puts up vs Gallo or/and Wilson Chandler, its the chemistry, team effort, team play, STAT being the alpha dog *very much wiling to move the ball*, and many things numbers/stats mislead us.
He is a volume shooter/scorer and isn't in the same category as Lebron, Durant, or even Rudy Gay...
Right now, our players don't mesh well together, while our (pre melo) players had something going, complimented each other and they were all on the same page.

As for Tyson Chandler, I think we still could have signed him, we might have loss out on Wilson Chandler, unable to match an offer in the process though, unless he plays for the qualifying offer...
As for Gallo, we didn't have to extend him right away, I don't think he would mind, if it meant we could have added talent to our roster.
There was so many options and flexibility that Walsh had in mind but never was able to execute at the final stage.

We would have to get some salary relief trades though...

ship out AR for a 2nd round pick
ship out Turiaf, the same way we did though,
trade Walker for salary relief
maybe even trade TD *with decent value from last years performance*
maybe trade Fields or Wilson Chandler *both with good value, getting us cap relief and a 1st rounder*
keeping out 1st rounders and possibly adding even more picks to it as well....

amare stoudemire - $18.2 million
landry -- 790k
toney D -- $1.1 mil

former knicks:
felton -- $7.5 million *if he was the same defender/player he was in our 1st half, he would have good trade value, and his defense would compliment Iman/Gallo/WillChandler/TysonC
gallo -- $4.19 million
mozgov -- $2.56 million *absolute steal, very solid player*

that total is $34 million.

tyson chandler's salary this year was $13 million. he would have fit.

IN a perfect world, of what ifs...

Felton *sorry to say, he would probably been gone with all the PGs in this coming summer, especially if we were able to land Lin*
Iman
Gallo
Amare
Tyson Chandler

Lin
Fields
Wilson Chandler/Novak
JJ/Wilson Chandler *we miss this stretch 4, with great rebounding, defense, and shot blocking ability*
MosGoV

Jorts
TD
Jerome Jordan

this is quite a DEEP team, while we still have assets, 1st rounders, and flexibility in the near future to acquire another "good player or star"
We would have been top 4 in the league, in terms of depth...
With the way we played, it would have been fun to watch, and players would actually want to come to play for us, because it was a very team orientated style.
As great as a job Grunweld has done and with the luck of the amnesty/waivers, we had a nice core of young players...
But this is in the past, lets see what Grunweld can do to acquire, or/and keep what we have, and build a team with chemistry/identity.
