We need last years miracles.
Impovement will come from chemstry alone (offseason, training camp, full season including preseason.)
We can fill in the blanks with a couple of vets and be fine for this coming year.
Negativity at an all time high now. Training camp can't come soon enough. Can someone start the countdown thread. Maybe that will help
I think more then anything, we need to be relatively healthy. I still don't think Amare and melo have played together for mor the 30 games total..
we certainly need to add a back up pg/sf/PF, but i will settle with NOVAK has a back up sf/pf..
Assuming we don't win the arbitration hearing tomorrow and JR opts out, we have to do everything we can to convince Lin to take less than the full mid level and then spread money around between Novak, Odom and PG depth. Maybe Derek Fisher or Flynn and a guy like Anhtony Carter.
I agree that we'll see improvement from a full off season with a healthy roster. But the biggest improvement will have to come from STAT. He really was a huge dissapointment all year. I know he was dealing with personal stuff, but he needs to get his jumper back and to stay healthy.

I agree and I don't see that happening any time soon.

Did anyone see them on june 12th of last year either?
Bone up and take some Xanex for a few months and lets revisit the roster on Nov. 1st.
I don't see any miricles either but I never see them coming.

Actually research has found that it's a myth that it takes multiple years for teams to form chemistry. There are plenty of examples (like the Celtics) of teams peaking their first year together.

The celtics were good enough to win no matter what. Injuries prevented them from winning more.

Is there actual research that shows this? I always said that chemistry was just an excuse for our roster under achieving. But I'd be interested to see actual research on the subject.

I am skeptical of that research. And, Celtics added 2 players - vets who knew exactly what they were doing - to a team that had been together for a couple of years.

I read that before - I believe in one of Berri's books. Anyone who's played basketball at a high level knows it doesn't take multiple years to learn to play together.
I remain confident.
We had a decent (albeit up and down) season. It would've been a 45 win season. This was done with injuries, coaching turnovers and new players.
i think if we keep the same players (lin, Novak, JR) around the core (Stat, Melo, Tyson) and that add 2 vet mins (Odom, Camby)...keep fields and play him til shump returns...and we should be ok. Coach Woody will have these motivated to play defense too!

Skepticism is a good thing. "Knew exactly what they were doing" is a bit unclear though. Our big 3 achieved at least as much playoff success prior to joining in NY as Boston's did prior to joining in Boston.
Knicks have been really good the past couple of years finding guys. Whether it is drafting 4 year guys from good programs that are barely on the map at draft time or bringing in a guy like Moz, the scouting dept. has overachieved. The Knicks were reported to be scouting a free agent in Europe that went undrafted in 07. Scouting Europe, the d-l, possibly moving the rights to the Euro they got in the Chandler deal for a pick etc.are all things I am sure that they are exploring.

Sorry positivity isn't allowed in June especially during the finals when everyone envys the finals teams

Coaching plays a big part in getting everyone on the same page IMO.

Well i guess I cant blame some for being skeptical. I mean from 2008-2010 we cleared salary so we could get bigname talent which we have in the last 2 yaers and have only 1 playoff win to show for it

The point I was trying to make is that the Knicks have done an amazing job getting guys like Fields, and Jorts with second round picks. Jordan maybe another one of those guys. Finding Moz in Europe and getting him was huge. The Knicks have had a Spurs like approach with their picks. They have gotten a lot of talent in positions where no one would have questioned them if the guys they took never played in the NBA.

We've gotten screwed the last 2 years with injuries right before and during the playoffs. We stay healthy we will make noise. I'm hoping next season is the year we can go into the playoffs at full strength.
This roster has a lot of talent. But if we know anything its that the team is terrible without high quality PG play. We need a true floor general who can move the ball. Amare/Melo cannot exist without this.
I believe Lin has the brain and talent to be that player. My biggest concern is durability. He looks like a guy who is going to play 50-55 games a year. He's got to learn to pace himself. And if he does will that negate some of his effectiveness?
That and Melo ball doesnt work. Its great for beating the Bucks and Nets in the dead of the winter, but its too easy to defend and doesnt work in the playoffs. I want to see more scoring from Chandler and Amare. Two guys who average well above 50% shooting.
Can Melo take a lesser role like Paul Pierce did?
Can Lin play at least 70 games next year?
Can we draft or add some depth to the bench?
If we can do those 3 things (not impossible) the Knicks can compete with the big boys. But if Chandler and Amare are struggling to get good shots and Melo is stopping the ball, taking 25 shots and shooting his usual 44% while everyone stands and watches the Knicks will be a slightly over .500 team losing to a powerhouse team in the first round and people around here will be blaming the coaches (again).
