Knicks · Im starting to beleive trading for Melo was a mistake?just don't know. Here's why. what do you think?Hope we did the right thing (page 1)
If we would have waited we would have had a chance to get star power with the free agency. With the team we had before we traded for Melo was playing good ball and getting some one like Williams before he went to the Nets or after like now or waiting for Howard or just learning to play better defense. OOOHHH WAIT D'ANTONI WOULD STILL BE HERE. I JUST WONDER WHAT KIND OF TEAM WE WOULD HAVE.
Melo is the only 2 way player we have.

We were 2 games over .500 when we traded for Melo. Results haven't been much better since the trade, but we had our best stretch in years at the end of this season. Hopefully that's closer to the team we are then the team that can't defend or move the ball properly.

That's the optimistic view. We may have been overachieving too. I certainly hope we can be that good again but what happened in the playoffs? Was it just the injuries or more? Plus we have some major off season issues that may really tie our hands next season. I hope we can get back to that level.

We ran in to the NBA champs in the first round. And the defensive player of the year wasn't healthy until game 4, our best perimeter defender tore his ACL, we didn't have a PG and our star PF is a headcase who can't defend or sink a J anymore.
Even if we were 100% I don't know if we could've gotten past them. This year is going to tell whether we are a failure or this team can be a top 3 seed.

Yea those losses against Ind and Cleveland killed us. Something to be learned from losses like that. They had been playing great and probably got cocky and comfortable. Didn't care who they played in the first round. Have to stay humble and play hard.
Look at Miami tonight. Didn't give OKC a chance. That shows maturity.

If you look at that stretch with perspective, the KNicks avoided giving a lottery pick to the Rockets, made the playoffs for the second straight year, had the second best record during that time other than the Spurs, and Melo got player of the month, to focus on one loss when there were so many earlier in the season seems ridiculous. I believe the Knicks had clinched a playoff berth the game before the Cavs game and may have had a let down. I know Melo played badly against the Cavs,he always does but he had 39 the next night and the Knicks had a lot of injuries. The Knicks had a lot to overcome after starting the season 18-24, one loss during an 18-6 run is not why they didn't advance in the playoffs.

I'm a fair person and I call players on my team out when they aren't pulling for the whole team. And I know it's not always the coach. But I really believe in my heart D'Antoni was the biggest problem. Melo was playing hurt for months. He didn't know what to do on the court. MDA wasn't making it work. Of course I could be wrong but I saw that Dantoni wasn't a good coach well before Melo was a Knick. I think Melo has the ability and the selflessness to lead. I just don't know if he has the passion that LeBron, Durant, etc have.
This will be my final MDA post. Dead Horse has been beaten sufficiently.
